Happy New Year's!

 New Year's!

Well, not yet, but according to CBS, it's next year in Sydney, Australia. Nice fireworks! :)

Was thinking about New Year's resolutions, which I don't make cuz I never keep, but do plan to make a good attempt at catching up on email and not letting it pile up. I get so much due to various interests and websites I run that it's just, well, enormous.

Was reading on superstitions for the new year. Shouldn't run wash on the first day. Oh hey, no problem! No cleaning either? Yes! But the first visitor to the house on the day should be dark haired and good looking. Hm, don't think Joe Flanigan is gonna be knocking at my door. Darn. However, the 'first footer' should not be a redhead, so does that mean I can't let the dog out until someone else arrives. Wait, I'll put the cat out. He's got sorta dark hair.... of course, he won't appreciate it as it's COLD.

Plan to spend the day just catching up with stuff, email, books, maybe some videos. Just relax. :)

Meanwhile, below the cut is a picture a friend sent me, which I thought I'd share :)

dying laughing at your paragraph of superstition. did the cat survive the cold? did you open the door to find a dark handsome stranger or just the ratty teenage paperboy from down the street LOL

thanks for the giggle!

My one new year's resolution, though it's not really a resolution, is to get my backside back on a proper diet and get back to exercising and seriously lose some weight and improve my health.

In the meantime, that means I've got um... the rest of today to polish off all the leftover goodies from xmas *and* that big box of chocolates hubby kindly bought me! Whooops! :D

A Happy New Year to you too! Love the graphic :-)

Oi! It was the new year in Melbourne, too! Bloody Sydney... always getting the attention because of its harbour bridge.

Oh, and NZ hit 2008 before everyone else!

I've always heard the first-footer should be dark-haired, but never heard he or she needs to be good-looking! That could be a problem: my husband's a redhead, and I've got the darkest hair if we don't count the cats.

Maybe I should step outside with the black cat and see if I make it back in in one piece. If I don't, or the cat successfully runs off, that's a bad omen.

Happy New Year anyway!

Happy New Year. Hope it's a good one for you.

Hope so too!

Hmm, maybe I just wanted the good-looking part ;) Dark hair, definitely...

Ah, I guess when I was writing they were showing the fireworks on CBS and I just typed Sydney ;) Yup, there was that bridge :)

well, still '07 so the poor cat is still here, inside. don't think I can torment him though. He doesn't have a ton of fur and if you get him near an open door with cold air coming in, he latches his claws into the doorframe - or my arm - whichever is closest ;)

Heh, only 4pm right now so still stuck in last year ;)

Yeah, gotta do my exercise myself... and the dog, oh, poor thing, he's tubbed out.

Thanks :)

New Year

We call it "New Year" over here in Aus mate, no 's on the end of Year.

It's now 11 hours and 6 mins into 2008 and most our fireworks were cancelled here in Queensland last night due to fearsome storms, 150km/h (80ish mph) winds and lashing rain.

I am recovering nicely *hic* who need fireworks LOL

Love your site, many thanks for the hours of fantastic reading

Happy New Year.....

Happy New Year!! Hope you have a fantastic 2008.

Are you watching the Twilight Zone marathon?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
nope, I'm watching SGA DVDs. RISING, now COMMON GROUND. Just a Shep whump fest, me thinks :)

Glad you enjoy my LJ :) and yeah, I read about the storms over there!

Ali lives? ;)

Heh, I so hear you on the diet and exercise regime. There's this new 24/7 gym place in town (I live in a smallish town outside of The City proper) that I am thinking about joining, only because it's right there on a major intersection that I have to pretty much pass on my way to or from town. I need to start working out again so I have like, oh gee, stamina, for when someone wants a 2 hour deep tissue massage! :-p

I don't make resolutions, either. If I'm going to change something about myself, I want it to be whenever there needs to be a change... which is usually every month, and still nothing changes.

I did drive by your street on Friday and waved - but guess I can't qualify as your dark haired visitor :p

My mom's family is Eastern European so we have a couple New Year's superstitions we follow - you're supposed to have pork and cabbage (sourkraut) for New Year's Day for a year of money, good health and luck. Cabbage represents money and you should have pork (or something from a pig) because pigs uproot things - chicken is a real no-no because chickens scratch for a living and if you eat chicken on the first day of the new year, you'll have money problems (My mom maintains the year we didn't do pork and cabbage all sorts of bad things happened). You're also supposed to hold silver in your hand at midnight for prosperity in the comming year. I figure it never hurts...

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-01 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, no cabbage, but does holding a silver colored tv remote in hand count as silver?? ;)

[identity profile] vecturist.livejournal.com 2008-01-01 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that counts...I just took my earrings out.

[identity profile] pisces227.livejournal.com 2008-01-01 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I'm doing today...SGA DVD's. Shep whump fest is a great way to start the new year.
