Poisoned and robbed, all in one day!

The drawback to cleaning up the yard, especially when the leaves aren't out, meant I woke up this weekend scratching and went "crap, poison ivy." This is after donning my Wellies (Wellington boots), jeans, jean jacket, long sleeved shirt, leather gloves, yet I got a few spots on my face and one wrist. Grr, but I'm making headway hacking through Audrey's progeny, although it will be impossible to rid the yard of them (gotta keep some and hope for berries). As to being robbed, well, I put gas in the car. Good lord, $3.59!!! For regular, pump yourself. Highway robbery. Of course, I can't gripe a ton considering what folks overseas are paying. Aieee, damned commodities brokers. They're driving up all the prices!

Got to see the begininng of APOCALYPTO on cable, and I definitely recommend the movie as it's great. Not one to watch over and over again due to violence, but intriguing nonetheless. Caved in a moment of great weakness and bought the SEAHORSE DVD as it was on sale this week.

And gak, I was driving along on Saturday and something buzzed past my face: MOSQUITO! In April?!

Oh man, the brush must have gotten under your glove and/or brushed against your face when you weren't paying attention.

At least it's not too bad and should clear up in a few days. Man, the last time I had poison ivy (and/or a reaction to Bounce dryer sheets, I can't remember anymore) as a kid I had it really, really bad and was just covered from like head to toe in calamine lotion which did like nothing to kill the itching and even the pills I was on didn't seem to help. I was in misery.

Yeah, gas prices are outrageous & it doesn't help that there are US laws in place that require the brokers to buy a preset amt of crude per day - like if they use X amt on average, then they have to buy X amt at minimum daily.

It's $3.27 here in town where I live, but if you go to Wally & put $$ on a gift card, then you get $.05 off at the pump (This is why Sam's Club and/or Costco memberships are worthwhile at times - for the discount on gas.) making the price $3.22/gln.

I need to get some letters out in the mail tomorrow to hook up w/ a chiropractor here in town so I can like not have to drive 45 miles to the salon every day. I love the salon, but it's just too far to drive w/o any way to catch a bus and/or train easily from here. I have to drive to Eureka (24 miles) at the closest to a commuter lot that is filled up by the time I go to work, to catch the nearest bus.

I might have bumped my glove against my face; that's all I can think of. fortunately it's just a spot or two. If I get too much, I get systemic reactions and it goes EVERYWHERE.... I get it every year, usually from the dog. Oh, discount at Costco? I must check this out!

Ugh. Poison Ivy. Hope that goes away, like fast!

The cost of gas these days is ridiculous. :(

Poor you! Take care of yourself!

I'm in Florida. We get mosquitoes literally all year around. I hate them.

Tell me about the mosquitos. They're terrible here. We've had them since March. I'm bitten on my legs, arms, wherever. That's what ya get in Texas.

poisoned and robbed in one day

The ivy you will eventually get over, but I am afraid the
robbery will be a continuing hazard.....
**hugs**

the problem with it is further spreading........
Suggest you might consider wearing those cosmetic gloves, the kind women put on their hands at night after they have slathered cream all over them, at night to guard against scratching an area and further spreading it....

Yeah, it will go to grand larceny by Memorial day, I'm sure ;)

I hear the skeeters are actually worse in the Arctic... the only thing I dislike about 'em is they transmit West Nile and other nasties.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-04-15 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I've had worse ;) Poison ivy, that is... I remember when I was in Florida didn't encounter any mosquitoes, but turned all red and itching after going horseback riding, and that's when I found out I'm sorta allergic to horses, or whatever is put on them.

I'll get rid of it and then get it again. Typical summer pattern if I dare go outside. I guess that's WHY I gave up gardening. I forgot! ;)

Doesn't itch much on the face, just the one elbow right now. Getting better!

Fatal West Nile!

How is it worse in the Arctic?

Allergic to horses? That's awful! My sympathies!

I read an article on mosquitoes and apparently up north, they're pretty voracious ... and BIG.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-04-16 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, I could ride one I suppose, if I made sure I was covered head to toe and didn't touch it... ;)

They've never been to Texas, huh? :D
