R.I.P. Paul Newman, 1925-2008

What more can I say than that he was a great actor? I met him once and he was a very down-to-earth guy.

His daughter has been the operations manager for his food business here in my home town for years. He would often frequent the area to see her. Very nice and kind folks and a outstanding facet of our community. He will be deeply missed here.

Definitely. When I got the morning paper today, he was on the cover, and the lady cashier (in her 60s or so) told me of how he once showed up at a black tie dinner - in sports jacket and open shirt - and then as he went to the podium (he was donating money) he said "when I turned 70, I burned my tuxedo." :)

Did you meet him in a formal situation or anything more mundane?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, mundane. Doctor's office waiting room, actually!

Ah, you frequent the doctors of the stars. Hah, that's unexpected.

Nah, I live in the same area :) I love how for years everybody says how they'd run into him at stores and such and i'm like, it never happens to me, but then boom, there in the waiting room. Glad I had the chance.

Hee. It's only natural, all these people have to be surrounded by ordinary folks. The only thing that bugs me is when Australians meet Europeans I like when they are in Europe, while there's no way I'll ever accidentially run across anybody I care about.

He was a great man and a great actor. I just loved his blue eyes. RIP.
