MediaWest*Con 2010

For those who have attended the convention MediaWest*Con in previous years, and plan for this coming year, the programming site is now up at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mwcprogram/

We’re on a Yahoo group this time, which may make things a lot easier.

Fandoms of all kinds converge on this convention in Lansing, Michigan over Memorial Day weekend in May – Stargate, Supernatural, White Collar, Doctor Who and LOTS more!

Main hub site is at: http://www.mediawestcon.org/mwc30.htm

My days of travel are over, but if they were not, I would
be doing this one and Vancouver which is close enough for me to
drive.....which I used to do.
Must take lots of pix and notes etc.

I'll be doing MWC unless disaster happens. Vancouver, alas, too far, too pricey. I'd love to do the Chicago one...

Is it too pricey because of cost of tickets or getting there and
hotels etc.???
If you don't want to discuss it, that's cool, but just wondering.
I know nothing about cost of any of them.
I just know that if I was not tied down by my medical situation
I would drive up. I love Granville Island in Vancouver and think it
would be cool not only to take in the con, but spend sometime on the island which is really unique in shops and a market etc.

Well, to fly from the east coast to the west coast would be probably $500 minimum. I'd need a passport. I'd have to pay for hotel. If I was going to go that far, I'd want a gold ticket, I'd want to do studio tours. I did a calculation on all the 'wants' and it came out to $2K *cough*. Minimum was $1K. and if I flew across country, I'd want to do vacation in vancouver and see the sights, but home situation doesn't really allow it right now.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder you used the term 'pricey'
If I went, I would drive, buy a gold ticket and hunker down
No interest in studio tours as I spent an entire week at Universal.
My cousin Jerry, a set designer, left my name at the gate
Every morning about 10AM I would drive through and then find parking marked 'visitor'....then the fun would begin.
I even waved a couple of times at those things tourists ride on.
:P
He told me the red, yellow and green light rules for entering and leaving sound stages and shooting areas and left me on my own.
It was great. I loved not only the sound stages, but the back lots.
I watched so many films and tv shows being shot. What a boring life, so many takes. I remember one time 23 to just get one shot.
We ate in the commissary every day and then I would go home about 3PM and take a nap and when later we would go to dinner and some night spots when he got home about 8PM.
His house was a beautiful Tudor decorated with a lot of stuff from films, tv shows etc.
Very memorable week for me.

Sounds like a fun time! I did get to visit the sets where they filmed Kung Fu the Legend Continues, Due South, and Earth FInal Conflict (all I remember of the latter was very cool clear stairs).

Oh wonderful. It is a lot of fun isn't it?
I loved Due South.
I am not familiar with Earth Final Conflict.
Vancouver is quite the shooting area now.
Portland is becoming quite popular too.
They moved Leverage up here lock, stock and barrel
I wish Joe would become part of a series shooting here
>:-)
Well a girl can daydream can't she???
:P

Alas, Joe doesn't want to do vancouver again. Wish he'd do NYC... nice and close, sorta...

[identity profile] black-raven135.livejournal.com 2010-02-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think since he lives in Malibu LA would be the spot, but
more and more film companies are opting NOT to do LA as it is so
congested etc..............
I can see why he does not want Vancouver. It is even more rainy and cold than Portland.........and when I say cold I mean it rains here and the temp is 38 which means cold IMO.
