Joe Flanigan at Walter Reed Hospital Benefit

 http://www.newyorksocialdiary.com/node/3239

This article is all a gala affair that was held to honor the Iraq and Afghanistan wounded who reside at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Here is the relevant excerpt:

....One man in a wheel chair was not an Iraq war veteran. John Kousi is President of the Eastwind Shipping Co., of New York and got his disabling injuries in an Aspen skiing accident, but he feels a kindred spirit with the wounded warriors and plans to volunteer his time to give them comfort. Kousi was there with his daughters and son-in-law Joe Flanigan, star of the SciFi hit “Stargate: Atlantis.” Flanigan, who has played Lt. Col John Sheppard on more than 70 episodes of the show, will volunteer some of his time at Walter Reed, also.

REST AT LINK ABOVE, plus a photo of Joe Flanigan and his father in law, which is below.

Aww bless him! Isn't Joe's dad in a wheelchair too?

Gotta respect people that not only do their bit for charity but don't seek to benefit by that fact or aggrandise themselves by way of it. They just contribute cos they want to and not for their image or anything. :)

I must admit I know very little about Joe's own backgroudn except the official bio stuff, and even that I forget most of the time. But it's great on what he's doing.

That's great that he's volunteering! My opinion of him continues to increase!!

I'm not impressed by the colour of his shirt though!

How awesome. I used to work at a sattelite clinic of Walter Reed when I lived in Northern VA, and I know how much those vets will appreciate the visit, even if they don't know who he is (and I know a lot of military types watch the 'Gates, so a fair number might).

Thanks for this bit of news. I googled Mr. Kousi and found the company that Joe's father-in-law owns is part of an alliance which is Chiquita Brands' preferred supplier in ocean shipping to and from Europe and North America. Chiquita sold 12 refrigerated cargo ships to the alliance and is leasing 11 of them back.
