Paul McGillion Lands Star Trek Role
In September TrekMovie.com broke the news that Stargate Atlantis’ Paul McGillion auditioned for the role of Scotty for the new Star Trek film, but of course in the end the role went to Simon Pegg. However it appears that wasn’t the end of the line for McGillion. TrekMovie.com has learned that the McGillion impressed the film makers with his audition and they found a different role for the actor. No details yet on his role, except that it is a small speaking part.
McGillion has actually already finished shooting for the film, which took a few days back in November. It appears he will be in a scene with Chris Pine (Kirk). Since Simon Pegg had not started working yet, there will not be an on screen meeting between two.

Hmmm. If he does do Atlantis, they may have to schedule around the film. If he has a reasonable sized part in it.

Torri has very politically correct in talking about this in public - and I applaud her for that. Joe, on the other hand, did speak out on her & Paul's behalf at like the Burbank con, from what I understand.
I miss her on the show because the way they've handled some things in this season just makes go, "Okay, here's where we need Elizabeth..." But, they don't even have Sam there to say yay or nay to stuff.
I miss Carson too, because Keller just doesn't give me that solid feeling of knowledge like we had with Carson. (Come on, I will always think of Jewel as the young-ish engineer/mechanic from Firefly. Sweet, but not very experienced in many ways.)
The giving of this small role to Paul - is nothing against him - but feels like it was a bone tossed to us SGA fans for lobbying for him. The, "Well, we know it's gonna suck, but we still want you to come see our movie anyway" scenario. (As someone else said - Dawson's Creek meets Star Trek?)

Yes, from all I've heard, both Paul and Torri have been really gracious about the whole thing. I like Sam, but you're right: the conditions under which they brought Amanda Tapping on board (14 episodes only) have left a bit of a power vacuum on Atlantis, where sometimes it looks like no one's in charge!
The role in ST may be a bone. I'd rather he'd gotten more, but I prefer a bone to no bone (and I'm guessing the actor does too).
Never watched Dawson's Creek; when I hear the title, all I think is "teen angst". Is that it? 'Cause Spock and teen angst would be really bad....
