And now for something completely different: firefighters in charity stairwell climb

And now for something totally different....

Snerched from Yahoo news today: Firefighters Charlie Schmidt, left, and John Stewart, both of Vancouver, Wash., fire dept., pick up their gear and head out after resting following racing up 1,311 stairs in competition Sunday, March 2, 2008, in the Columbia Center tower in Seattle. More than 1,000 firefighters from throughout the U.S., as well as Canada and New Zealand, raced 788 vertical feet up 69 floors in the 17th annual stair climb at the tower, in a benefit for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. .[AP Photo/Elaine Thompson]

Photo beneath the cut... worth a peek :)

An article at http://www.tri-cityherald.com/945/story/105128.html detailed that "firefighters will be wear full gear and breathing equipment - weighing about 50 pounds - as they climb 69 stories." (That would be me carrying the dog and cat and probably a sack of flour, white or wheat). Firefighters have raised more than $1.6 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since 1992.

Odds are they aren't actually from Vancouver but from one of the smaller outlying towns (which is where I am from, we just say Vancouver to keep people from going "where?). We do grow em well back home don't we?? *applauds for the hometown boys*

All I know is they're not from my local fire department, although the local SWAT team has some awfully cute guys on it.

And how would you know that? Been spending time having the SWAT guys called to your home? ;-)

Oh, saw a SWAT demonstration several months back, complete with flashbangs (which made me think of Stargate Atlantis). :)

Thanks for that ;)
There's a lot of firemen in my town (regional HQ and they pop across the road to the supermarket a lot *thank heaven*) - why are they so darn gorgeous?
*giggles*
*donates*

Definitely:)

Oh my!

Now none of the British firefighters i've met have looked like that!!

*continues to stare at pretty*

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
one thing I've noticed is that most firefighters are sorta short, at least they are around here. In other words, they're avearge heights, not the 6'+ they always show on TV.

[identity profile] squonk79.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they did start out as 6'+ - but all that heavy equipment has made them shrink! :D
