Jason Momoa featured in TV Guide (includes PHOTO)

Jason Momoa of Stargate Atlantis is featured on page 10 of the U.S. June 23rd TV GUIDE on 'top 10 breaking news.' However, most of us know that Jason .... oh, hmm, just in case, under the cut!

Yes, he cut his dreads but his head and neck were hurting from the weight of the dreads. He added that all that hair kept him from wearing a bike helmet and kept ruining his balance on a surfboard. Eek! but SciFi execs didn't want him to cut it so now he's got a wig.

Oh yes, he looks well, yes, HOT, with the short hair! ;) Gah, I love your kitty LJ icon :)

[identity profile] vecturist.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he looks a bit younger without the dreads. I can imagine they were a literal pain in the neck for stunt work as well. Still I kind of wish SciFi had let him lose the dreads - kind of screwed up a potential storyline.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think if Ronon lost them in a rather traumatic way, it could work for the show, but then he wouldn't look so... alien?

[identity profile] belisse.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
he looks even hotter without the dreads. OMG

Sci-fi should have let him get rid of them! There was a scene written, and from what I can gather it would have fitted the episode perfectly.

Did you know they weigh something like 6lbs?

Apparently they were causing a kind of whiplash effect when he did action and/or fighting scenes. Still do I guess, seeing as he now has to wear a wig.

Stupid sci-fi. Ronon without dreads is fine. We fans would have coped I'm sure! And there was going to be a very good character reason for them going...

hotttt

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Be nice to see some publicity photos with Jason with that hair.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be like having my cat (several years back) perpetually stuck on my head, so I can understand why he'd want to get rid of them. However, alas, Skiffy execs probably figure the viewers would freak (or maybe they remember what happened when Tyr clipped his locks on ANDROMEDA!)

Maybe in a future episode, mutant rats can gnaw off the dreads when he's trapped somewhere... *cough*

[identity profile] strange-magic.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not really a wig, I mean they are still "his" dreads. When they cut them off, they saved them and just reattached them for the show. :)
he's still hot either way though.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so he's right back where he started from! Yes, need some mutant critters to eat 'em.

[identity profile] kadja83.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
O.O No comment T.T
Why Ronon Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy T-T............

[identity profile] strange-magic.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it's probably not as heavy. I'm sure they weeded out the heavier ones and didn't reattach those. I mean who would want to go back to having 6lbs of hair on their head?

Ah yes! Mutant critters! That would some hairball to hack out for those "creatures" :P Too bad the Ronon doll isn't out yet. :(

I read that Jason decided the character needed the dreads, not TPTB. I didn't think the Sci Fi execs were involved with this one.

[identity profile] pisces227.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I read that at first they attached his old dreads but it was very time consuming so they finally opted to make a wig for him instead. I kinda like the short hair.

Mutant rats indeed! I like that idea.

[identity profile] melibabe.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I remember reading that they (Bridge) had a scene planned where he lost the dreads, but TPTB at SciFi nixed it. Pthbt on them. I think that would have been a lovely potentially angst-y scene. :)

[identity profile] abracah.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my!! He almost looks more dangerous without the dreads!!!

I still can't what their reasoning is behind making him keep them. I would lay bets that he will leave the show if picked up for season 6, just so he won't have to wear them anymore.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Ronon was gonna hack 'em off out of spite to his captors or something like that, but, oh well, Skiffy execs....

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Gee, hope not!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Mutant rats... squirrels on crack. Wraith-mutated bollweevils... any would work for me ;)

[identity profile] shansgrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I still think he looks just as fierce without the dreads. (Not to mention HAWT!) Too bad Sci-Fi won't let Ronon get rid of his dreads.

Um...why do dreadlocks make him look any more alien than any other hairstyle?

[identity profile] darkrosetiger.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Originally, SciFi didn't want him to have them. When he finally had to cut them, Mallozzi had already written an explanation into the script, but the network execs decided that no, he had to keep the dreads.

they do give him that dangerous non-human look,

Out of curiosity, are you aware that dredlocks are a fairly common hairstyle for people of African descent?

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] darkrosetiger.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
They are, which is why that comment was serious WTF, since it sounds like you're saying that what would be a really attractive hairstyle on me would give me that "dangerous, non-human look". I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but it still read as incredibly offensive.

Frankly, I think between his height, his ink and the fact that, unlike Teyla, he doesn't wear even part of the Expedition uniform, he's othered and set apart from the Earth people enough already.
