The first official trailer for David Hewlett's Debug movie is now up at YouTube, so I'll embed a copy here. I see some familiar faces from the Stargate universe.

And, Stargate novels is offering a free download (Word of PDF) of one of it's Stargate stories, but just until November 2nd. Rush on over to http://www.stargatenovels.com/SGX-01-Stargate-SG1-Stargate-Atlantis-Far-Horizons.shtml. I found it humorous that " Remember, this will only be available until Sunday 2 November after which it will disappear like Wraith fodder."

Cool, my moniker is almost there...

I miss Stargate Atlantis, heck, just Stargate. Scifi on TV just isn't the same, and Friday nights are more for watching stuff on video on demand than anything live on TV.
wraithfodder: (McKay-ouch)
Yes, David Hewlett is letting us fans in on his utterly fantastic life after the demise of Stargate Atlantis. Be jealous viewing his massive swimming pool, the incredibly unique toys he has, and that mysterious connection to the Dalek...

wraithfodder: (zelenka nuts)
Just in case you want extra copies of seasons. www.deepdiscountdvd.com is selling each season of both Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 for just $10.05 each. That's the cheapest I've seen in a per-season price yet. And that's free shipping too :)

Email, shamelessly snerched from my email box, on the Stargate Atlantis / Stargate SG-1 novels:

Novel news )
wraithfodder: (critter-scream)

Well, as usual, bad news seems to come out at the Vancouver Stargate convention (first time was when we found out that Daniel Jackson was going to die, die, die). No wait, he's died more than that, but I digress.

http://www.airlockalpha.com/node/8428/mgm-brings-stargate-movie-franchise-to-an-end.html has a number of quotes from twitter ..."To quote a castmate: Finding out there will be no SGU, ['Stargate: Atlantis' and ['Stagate SG-1'] movie was 'like getting cancelled all over again," SGU star David Blue shared on Twitter Sunday afternoon. "I can't imagine not playing Eli. We all hoped a movie would allow us the chance to play together again. It was an amazing crew, cast and team."  ....Reports are that many of the cast and crew learned of the show's final fate Saturday, with Wright tasked to share the bad news with fans Sunday. The announcement seems to go beyond SGU, and include the rest of the television franchise as well.

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2011/04/wright-sgu-continuation-other-movies-dead-for-now/ has quotes from Brad Wright. “We just recently found out that the SGU movie is not going to happen,” Wright said during his stage panel today.  “It took too long.  We just couldn’t get it together in time, and the window has closed.  It’s actually sad for me, because after 17 years, I’m cleaning out my desk tomorrow morning.”

David Hewlett @ tweeted "Sounds like Brad's Stargate news not what people were hoping for...what's a snarkastic genius to do now?! #StargateWontDie"

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2011/04/17/april-17-2011-until-we-meet-again/ added his comments.

http://stargate-sg1-solutions.com/blog/2011/04/brad-wright-stargate-movies-wont-happen/ has the best rundown of all the quotes, etc. so definitely click on this link.

------

For some reason, this does not surprise me. The economy sucks, MGM is putting its eggs ($$$) into the Bond basket, and SGU just did not perform like they had hoped. I've watched the entire franchise - Atlantis is still my favorite with SG-1 *extremely* close. SGU never grabbed me like the first two incarnations, but I do watch it. I must admit the literal darkness of the series did turn me off, plus I wanted to really like a chararacter and it was tough. I do watch TV to escape reality, so don't want THAT much reality in my TV, unless it's news / documentary stuff.

A big thank you to all the cast and crew of the Stargate franchise. It's been quite a roller-coaster ride over the past, um, er, geez, seems forever! ;) The best part of being a fan has been meeting other fans, and making very good friends, plus meeting cast and crew. It's had its ups and downs, but I never whined just to do it, it was because I loved the franchise. I think a lot of fans can say the same.

Well, we fans will keep it alive in fanfiction, and let's hope the paperbacks keep going, and down the roads, maybe we will get a movie or two or three with our favorite characters..

P.S. If anybody sees any good links to reports from the con, please feel free to add to the comments section below :)

wraithfodder: (McKay-this is cool)

http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/04/04/david-hewlett-interview-stargate-universe/

excerpt:

Q: One more 'Stargate' question: McKay is a fan favorite. Why do you think fans connect with him so well?

A: I can't speak for the fans, but I can speak for me ... I think if I wasn't working on these shows I would be a fan of this stuff. I grew up watching 'Doctor Who' and buying all the books and the dolls and that kind of stuff. I love that stuff, so I feel like I'm paid to do what I would be paying to do! But for McKay, I always feel like there's a little bit of McKay in everybody. Everybody wants to be the guy who has the answers and who isn't afraid to admit that he's a genius, social niceties be damned! I mean I love science fiction because it takes me out of this world. And with McKay, he's the scientist who has spent his entire life reading about this stuff and now he's getting to live it. In a way that's what all of us want. We've done the reading, we've done the research, we've done the dreaming, and we want to be McKay -- we want to be the guy who saves the day because we know all this stuff. We want all this nerd-dom to pay off. And McKay is the resulting image, he's th
e iconic figure of the nerd who's done his homework and now he gets to go off and save the universe.

I couldn’t help but just shake my head and sigh when a tweet popped up about Stargate Universe being cancelled. I wasn’t really shocked, or surprised, well, maybe just a tad bit surprised because SGU had been SyFy’s golden child but then again, the way they shifted it on the timeslot, ignored advertising, etc. did not bode well.

So while SyFy ramped up the advertising for the new golden child, Being Human, SGU got the axe with the how-dumb-do-they-think-the-audience-is explanation of “we’re not making any more episodes.” CANCELLED! An esx-show! Dead as a doorknob, etc.

This reminds me soooo much of when Stargate Atlantis got the axe. However, SyFy seems to be refining how badly they do cancellations by letting some of the cast/crew find out via internet sources (Deadline.com and/or Twitter, etc.). At least the SGA cast got the notice on set (as a I recall) and didn’t MGM tell the SG1 cast ‘adios’ at the 200th episode party?? Pfft.

Things don't get any better.
Concussed, far from the Stargate, and with his only remaining team mate, Teyla, injured, Sheppard soon finds himself a prisoner of the local population. And as he gradually pieces the situation together he realises that his team is scattered across a tropical archipelago, unable to communicate with each other or return to the Stargate. And to make matters worse, there's a Wraith cruiser in the skies above…

Doctor Rodney McKay can't believe his eyes when he discovers a moon leaving planetary orbit for a collision course with its own sun. Keen to investigate, he finds something astonishing on the moon's surface - an Ancient city, the mirror of Atlantis…
But the city is not as abandoned as he thinks and Colonel Sheppard's team soon encounter a strange sect of Ancients living beneath the surface, a sect devoted to decadence and debauchery, for whom novelty is the only entertainment. And in the team from Atlantis they find the ultimate novelty to enliven their bloody gladiatorial games…
Trapped on a world heading for destruction, the team must fight their way back to the Stargate or share the fate of the doomed city of Admah…

Our Authors

Our authors are the lifeblood of Stargate SG-1 Novels. They are a diverse bunch - creative, energetic and, most importantly, fans of the show!
Each one has a different take on the show. Some of them will focus on the mythology while others concentrate on new technologies, conspiracies and politics. Of course, all of them will deliver the excitement and action/adventure you've come to expect from Stargate SG-1.
It's too early to post details of individual authors yet (they're a shy and retiring bunch - really!), but as we get closer to publication dates for individual novels, we'll try to fill you in with details about their writing credits and their views on the show.

Author Jo Graham talks about John Sheppard at her LJ … “John Sheppard is a pile of contradictions -- awkward and decisive, loyal and independent, connected and alienated. He's fascinating. He's also the main character, the first one in the credits, the main viewpoint character of the series.”

I can't wait for this Legacy series. It sounds like we'll get some nice meaty indepth characterization!!

http://megburden.livejournal.com/ is the blog of Meg Burden, who is co-writing the Stargate: Atlantis Legacy series.

And http://amygriswold.livejournal.com/, another co-author of the Legacy series.

Meanwhile, upcoming books, with due dates plucked from stargatenovels.com and Amazon:

Legacy Series by Jo Graham and Amy Griswold

Book 1: Homecoming (Oct 2010)

Book 2: The Lost (Feb 2011)

Book 3: Allegiance (Jun 2011)

Book 4: Avengers (Oct 2011)

Book 5: The Secret (Spring 2012)

Book 6: The Inheritors (Summer 2012)

Meanwhile, it’s sorta hard to keep track of the numbers of the stand-alone novels…

SGA-15: Death Game (by Jo Graham)  (09/16/2010) (oh wait, that's TODAY! OMG, must order from Amazon as local stores never have them)

SGA-14: ???

SGA-13: Brimstone (by David Niall Wilson)  (09/2010) – I don’t think this book it out yet, although Amazon has odd “we don’t know when it will be back in stock” notice. I don’t recall it being for sale!

Correction: #14 is "Hunt and Run". Amazon's numbering system is off and *smacks self* should have dug books off the shelf to verify. Thx to those who did just that ;)

Snerched from Joe Mallozzi's blog (today's entry).... It just make me miss the show more. A candid shot from the last episode of the show.

Rachel Luttrell & Joe Flanigan, Stargatte Atlantis
wraithfodder: (Default)

I don't go to Joe Mallozzi's blog too often, as I don't read cooking reviews, and he gives too many spoilers on books I might read, and well, since Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 went poof, not so much to read about, but today...

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/july-15-2010-atlantis-crossover-which-begs-all-sorts-of-questions-and-another-big-guest-blogger-announcement/  or just  http://bit.ly/auT1d5

EXCERPT: With word from producer John G. Lenic that the deals have been closed on those Atlantis alums, we can now move forward on the script, secure in the knowledge that both extra-special guest stars will actually be on hand to say the dialogue written for specifically for them.  Great news for fans of the old series.  There was a reluctance to move ahead with an SGA crossover, particularly on my part, because the feeling was it would step on the timing of the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, the events of which directly proceed the Atlantis series finale, Enemy at the Gate.  But given the delay on the movie front and the ideal premise pitched out by Remi Aubuchon and Brad Wright, it was decided to go ahead with the crossover.  Not a big deal, but it will require some changes to the Stargate: Extinction timeline which, in turn, will beg a host of questions, some of which will be answered in episode #15, some of which won’t…at least not right away:

1. Where the hell is Atlantis?

AND the rest is at link above. I'm assuming from everything I've read that this is Stargate Universe/Atlantis crossover, so it begs the question of whom they'll have. I'd love to see Sheppard and McKay, but don't see how that could be worked in logically. Hmm...

or http://bit.ly/cQp9oP

Showing off the vast fabric of the Stargate universe, cast members from both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis will make appearances in the second season of SGU.

That’s the word from our friends at SCI FI PI, the Web site for Australia’s SCI FI broadcast network, which was in Vancouver last week for an international press junket on the show’s set.

My opinion? It doesn't surprise me that they're using Stargate SG-1 characters. Daniel Jackson is smarter than most of the folks on Destiny so could always a help. Carter? I think the scientist in her would like to see the Destiny so she'd go... Teal'c? There's absolutely no reason for him to go, and he'd probably need therapy if he ended in Eli's body ;) Jack makes the most sense (everybody reporting back to him). Mitchell? He' s a pilot, so, er, why go?

As for Atlantis... and I see this, quite honestly, as a way to draw back all the Atlantis fans who quit the franchise (if you comment, please refrain from bad language, thx) . Let's see, Sheppard? Pilot, why go? McKay? Been through body swap, would probably rather eat a lemon than do it again. Teyla, no need, Ronon (same scenario as Teal'c) ;). Zelenka? Hmm...

But of course lots of folks could stay Earth-side as nobody is going to lose the dumb stones anytime soon. My guess is the guest star will be like 2-3 minutes max, although they'll promote the heck out of it. Call me cycnical, but I've watched SyFy too long ;)

wraithfodder: (jelly-wraith)

Just finished THE FOOTPRINTS OF GOD, good book! It's one I picked up at a library book sale for 50 cents. Money well spent. I do recommend that one.

So, back to the library. And unfortunately, so is everyone else. At this rate I won't be reading the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child 'Pendergast' novel FEVER DREAM until Fall! But then again, big library book sale at end of July so maybe I can pick it up for a few bucks... Just finished the thriller SEA CHANGE by James Powlik, about a 'slick' in the ocean that eats people and fish and even causing damage on land. It was a pretty good read, and everytime they used booms to contain the slick, all I could think of was the Gulf oil spill. ... next up is MUTANT by Peter Clement, a medical thriller of sorts about DNA and H5N1 and how people shouldn't muck about genetidcally engineering stuff as hoardes of folks will die horribly. Well, I'm only about 20 pages into book but it looks like it's heading that way :)

Last, saved for July 4th weekend, is the new Stargate Atlantis novel DEAD END. Am holding out on that  for the 3-day weekend (I hope I get time!) plus i'm also eagerly reading [livejournal.com profile] kristen999 's RED SANDS novella, which she's posting a part of every other day (it's 16 parts). Nice deep survival tale with Sheppard and Ronon. Good stuff!

And I suppose I should read the instruction manual for the DVR...

wraithfodder: (RDA-binocs)
Finally got myself some Stargate SG1 icons :)

First, well, Richard Dean Anderson has taken the dive and joined twitter. You can follow him at http://twitter.com/andersonrdean. This morning he had about 300 followers. As I post now, he's over 2,000. And he's made just two tweets! Nice background picture though :)

Secondly, read today over at http://stargate-sg1-solutions.com/blog/2010/06/official-stargate-magazine-closing-down/ that The Official Stargate Magazine is shutting down. I must admit, it some respects it does not surprise me. First, the news is usually old and already known via the gazillion internet sources. Secondly, the issues are now $9.99 each. Even at only six a year, you sit back and go $10? $10 for a magazine? I can see the high price though, due to lower volume, which boils down to what I suspect is the real reason it's going under: lack of readership. That's my guess. When Stargate Atlantis got the axe, I can't tell you how many fans grumbled afar about not buying the magazine anymore because they wanted SGA, not SGU. Are SGU fans buying it? It's hard to tell. I must admit, as a completist I do have them all, figuring well, it can't last forever (how little did I know). So have two more issues to buy and that's it. Magazines devoted to a single show usually have a limited life. As much as I've enjoyed CSI, I just couldn't get into buying the magazines.

There is stuff in the magazine that's not on the web, but with the magazine closing, perhaps fan-run sites will get more interviews, or MGM, provided it doesn't go under too!

Stargate Atlantis Action Figure Theater number., er, well, al new one!

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Action Figure Theater, but a weird idea, lack of sleep, and presto, I did one! In fact, this was plastered on my door as a door decoration at MediaWest*Con 30, and it won for Best Technical, which is probably because I cut out a lot of little ballons for dialogue ;) But I was happy to hear people laughing at the door.

Once again, chockfull of graphics. And, in one box you’ll see the name Meijers. This was done specifically for MW*C attendees. Meijers is a Midwestern type Walmart store – you can basically anything there. It’s a mecca for MW*C fans upon arrival.

Well, just went through a month's worth of LJ entries, of course, to discover I missed about a week. Darn. Hopefully I had read all that. Anyway, lots of cute squirrel photos, a cat playing in a bathtub IN THE WATER (adorable) and Stargate Atlantis fanfiction to bookmark. Boy, do I need to buy some spare time on eBay so I can read it all!

Came across http://community.livejournal.com/gate_pages/58913.html in which it says No Stargate Atlantis audiobooks for third set.  Yes, they're set before Continuum. Also, there are no Atlantis stories. Daniel and Vala are toplining the entire set, so it'll be solely SG-1 this time out.

And don't forget, these are all full cast audios, not dramatised readings. The cast is small, admittedly, but they'll be more dialogue driven than they have been up to now.

I'd read earlier that Michael Shanks and Claudia Black were doing six, but was too busy to go back to look, and well, no Stargate Atlantis. Darn darn darn. I mean I really do like Shanks' books, but I want SGA stories too. I wonder if it was a financial decision (not enuf SGA sales?) or if the writers just didn't do SGA? Anyway, I will miss them. I was hoping they could somehow SOMEHOW get Joe Flanigan or David Hewlett to do one.

*** For some unfathomable reason I am watching the AWFUL movie Land of the Lost on cable. It sucks beyond belief.  How could anybody take what had been a decent Saturday morning live action show from decades ago and turn it into this... drivel.

Been busy doing programming for MediaWest*Con. It's basically done. A bunch of typing/organizing to do, but that's on the weekend. I hope.

Gardening may just be one tomato plant this year. Don't think I'll have time to do a real garden what with all the rest of the outside work to do. I need to win Powerball...

SciFiwire: Why Michael Shanks thinks Stargate SG-1 is history

It looks like Stargate SG-1 may finally be dead, at least according to star Michael Shanks, who played Dr. Daniel Jackson on the series, which ran for 10 seasons and spurred two DVD movies in 2008 and two Syfy spinoff series.

"Given the amount of time lag that's gone on between us doing the movies, I suspect that we might be very far away from, if ever, doing another DVD movie. This might be the closing of the book on that particular [chapter of the] franchise," said Shanks, whom we caught up with while he was promoting his guest-starring role as Hawkman in The CW's two-hour film Smallville: Absolute Justice.

"Never say never. It's always a possibility. But I think everybody's moving on to a certain point, and with the new show doing well, everybody's focusing their attention on that. The SG-1 idea is somewhat on the back burner, which is a little bit unfortunate, because I think one more story would have been a great way to bring Rick (Richard Dean Anderson) back in and really go there. But you know, business is business."

......

"The reason why I did that was because it timed in perfectly, because pilot season is underway. I'm reading for Danno in Hawaii Five-O," he said with a laugh. "I don't know what to say about that. I haven't read the script yet, so I'm going, 'Really?' I'll have to wait and see.'"

If cast, Shanks would be appearing with Lost's Daniel Dae Kim, who'll be portraying Detective Chin Ho Kelly, a role played in the original series by Kam Fong, the Hollywood Reporter announced today.

While he doesn't have any information about how they will reboot the iconic police procedural, which ran on CBS from 1968 to 1980 and spurred the famous catch phrase, "Book 'em, Danno," Shanks knows one thing. "I'm sure there's some updates, because I don't think we could pull off that kind of brow furrowing with a straight face in this day and age. I'll tell you one thing, to go to Hawaii to shoot a series would be a dream come true, that's for certain. Not a bad gig there. ... I don't feel too bad for the people on Lost. Oh, you're on Lost. Poor guys. Yeah. Boo-hoo. Go back to your cabana and have another mojito [laughs]."
