It's cheaper than therapy...

I was minding my own business, mowing the lawn, when the lawn mower clogged up because is just rains-rains-rains (hmm, we're becoming the new Seattle - already got too many Starbucks). So I de-clogged the lawnmower, turned around and wow, right over where I mowed was a leopard slug (whom I have now named Fred).

So I dragged Fred inside and videotaped him. Not bad for using a digital camera with my left hand and not really seeing what I was doing. Watch Fred crawl, look at that tentacle action! ;)

And  here's a photo of Fred.

Regrettably, my fingernails are still stained.

This is Fred all curled up when he feels threatened.

Alas, the lawn beckoned, so I put Fred back in a big round patch of lawn that won't get cut down till the last mowing in September or October.

Oh darn, should have grabbed an action figure and put Fred on it, but... Fred leaves slime, and it took long enough to get the slime off me. Don't want to scrub off Shep or McKay's faces! ;)

Awww - for a slimy lump of not-snail, that is adorable! I love snail & slug eyestalks, they're so weirdly expressive.

Yeah, the leopard slug is very pretty :)

Well, just the leopard ones. Regular ones, eeeuuuu, they eat my garden!

Yup.

I will hug him and squeeze him and call him George and sit on him and keep him warm and stroke his pretty feathers and pet his widdle bill.......

Wait a minute, you're not George.

=^.^=

I don't think I'd want Fred on me, but I'm glad he didn't get mowed!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't slime me as much as an ordinary slug, but then I was also covered in lots of grass clippings, so maybe that protected me! ;)

Ewwwwwwwwwwww... Where's my salt! ::shudders:: It's a snot monster! Don't touch it, forcrissake! ::shudders::

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, then I guess I should tell you he was crawling up my arm...

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Aw.... ;)

[identity profile] iamrighthere.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Fred, eh? You're a fan of slugs? 'Cause I've got a bunch that would loooove to live in your lawn! Do you have any hostas or other delicious plants around?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hostas? Nah, the deer eat those.... so we don't have any. If we put 'em in, they'd be gone in one day, I'm sure of it. But, hm, thanks, but have plenty of slugs in the yard ;)

[identity profile] pisces227.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehehe. All my little lizards are named Fred.

What a cutie patootie!

[identity profile] mcsheplovers.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
He's a cute little fella. I'm glad he lived.

As long as no birds ate him, but the grass was thick and deep where I stuck him... maybe he'll run into the other leopard slug in the back yard...

[identity profile] les342.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, that's gross, yet kinda cool at the same time. I'm not usually afraid of bugs or anything like that, but I don't think I'd want that thing crawling around on my hand.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, didn't feel like much. Not like a caterpillar which you definitely do feel crawling along your skin.

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
You mean he survived being run over by a lawn mower?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Must admit the lawn was, uh, er, pretty tall by that point so he may have been at the bottom and just missed by a hair, or rather, tentacle ;)

[identity profile] celestial-diary.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
So this was the leopard slug you mentioned while mowing.

That is slimey and disgustingly cool! It's also quite huge compared to the slugs I've seen here in my Australian backyard.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-19 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotta admit in all my years I"ve never seen a slug this big, and now I've seen two in two weeks! I hope to find more before Fall comes, but there's far too much yard to poke around and try to find one, although, hmm, if I get bored... ;)

[identity profile] celestial-diary.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! What do you put in your grass/lawn!?! Anyway, happy hunting, and looking forward to seeing more cool, slimy and disgusting pics on your post.

Btw, I was wondering, do you add back friends who friend you, or is your LJ pretty much Public that it doesn't matter?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, deep poop, mostly ;) Seriously, we put zip on the lawn, just what nature drops there, slugs and all.

I haven't friended everybody back because I looked at HOW many friends I have (which may decline, since SGA is getitng the axe) and yup, my LJ is wide open. Public.

Yeah, now when I mow thelawn I keep looking hopefully for another slug...
