Run, Woolly, Run! (another el cheapo weekend video production)

Wow, yes, the weekend was soooo exciting I'm chasing down poor defenseless caterpillars on the patio. Well, thankfully I looked before I stepped or else, well, he'd be flat. So, here's one pretty fast Woolly Bear..

Your videos always make me giggle. That is one zippy caterpillar. Not too much black on him. Does that mean a mild winter? That is the legend/myth/whatever as I remember it.

Yup, black means it sucks, so crappy beginning and end of winter, but otherwise, a mild winter, which is good, as heating oil is still far too pricey. Yeah, very zippy little fella!

Yeah, he just wanted out of there. Of course, the patio is wide open and the birds are just waiting for a morsel (you can hear 'em in the background!)

What kind of butterfly or moth does a Woolly Bear turn into? Or does it?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Isabella Tiger Moth (was in a reply below)

Oh that was the cutest thing! I don't think I've ever seen a caterpillar move so fast!

But as I was watching the video, for some reason the word "paperazzi" popped into my head! LOL!

A bit like JF - kinda fuzzy, likes to go fast and doesn't want to be photographed.... :)

Wraith!!! Well keep them handy encase you see another one so they can battle a alien woolie

[identity profile] vspun.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Fast moving little guy. I haven't seen woolies in ages, use to once in a while when I was a kid.

[identity profile] vspun.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Isabella Tiger Moth - that's what they turn into, kind of yellowish with small black spots.

Fast and cute little guy - hope the birds don't get him!! And glad you managed not to step on him too!

He went into the bushes (pachysandras) so he should be safe.
