Rest in Peace

Wow, today was a bad day for a couple of folks.

Patrick McGoohan, known to millions for his PRISONER series, or SECRET AGENT MAN, died today at age 80 after a short illness. I'll always remember him as the brusque Scottish animal doctor in THOMASINA, one of the best flicks ever to come out of Disney, which I adored watching cuz it had Siamese cats in it, but wow, I just through McGoohan was the cat's meow (I was a kid, and that was the term) ;) Anyway, very sad to hear that.

And Ricardo Montalban passed away at age 88. Most folks will probably know him best for FANTASY ISLAND, but I'll always remember "Fine Corinthian leather!" in some car ad he did, but I also remember seeing him in lots of older movies. That is, when they showed older movies. Now I gotta watch Turner Classic Movies to see 'em.

Sigh...

He was hawking the Chrysler Cordoba. And the only reason I have that useless piece of information in my head is that my mom was sooooo freaky in love with Ricardo that we had to go out in the 70's and buy that tank of a car. I kid you not. We used to tell people that. (Yeah, and if Joe F was hawking Mopeds I'd buy one too!)

Sad to hear about Mr. M.

Star Trek is getting battered this last couple of weeks. First Majel Barrett-Roddenberry and now Ricardo Montalban who was one of the more well known villians, Khan.

Aw, my parter's a huge Prisoner fan so that's where I'll always know PMG from.

My first response to RM was, "No! Senor Senor Senior!", followed by everyone's favorite, "KHAAAANN!" My partner asked if he will be wrapped in fine Corinthain leather and flown on a small plane to a tiny island for burial. [Fear us, we are geeks with kids...]

I just saw a brief mention on Entertainment TOnight and it's one of the few places to mention his Star Trek role, which *blushes* I forgot about myself!

I was also saddened by Patrick McGoohan's death. The Prisoner was so cool, but I also remember him from The Three Lives of Thomasina and also The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh on Disney. In fact, I was just doing some Wikipedia reading and web searching last weekend about the old serials that were on TWWoD in the mid-60's.

Yeah, it was the Disney flicks I remember him most for. I *adored* Thomasina....

Ricardo Montalban was in a Zorro movie :( But I best remember him from Star Trek. He put a yucky buggy thing in Checkov's ear :D (we did't get the car ad here.)
