Stargate Atlantis: Season 5 DVD set release date

At last, we  have a date for season 5 of Stargate Atlantis (this means I can erase my DVR's hard drive; it's full of season 5 which I can't bring myself to zap).

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Stargate-Atlantis-Season-5/11483

reports that season 5 is due out June 30th for $69.98. That's pricey, but it may have extras. Visit the link for all the details. And, most stores discount it heavily in the first week of sales.

[identity profile] strange-magic.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
That seems like an excessive price considering I got all the rest of them for $45.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
That's the MSRP. I sure hope it's CHEAPER!

[identity profile] strange-magic.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, because the season wasn't that great to begin with in my opinion. There's no way I'd pay even close to that.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I sure won't pay that either. NOt in this economy, butI do want good copies for certain episodes.

[identity profile] duffy-99.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
The price makes me concerned about MGM's financial state and thus, the future of the SGA movie. :-(

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Hadn't thought about that. Hmmmm...

[identity profile] mercury973.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not gonna by if there are no actor's commentaries. Sorry, but I have no need to hear Joe Moz's thoughts on how great "Whispers" was.

[identity profile] darsynia.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Woah, wtf? Is this some sort of compromise in order to get money for the SGA film? I wonder...

I think they really dropped the ball on that price if it's anywhere near that expensive when it comes out. A lot of people will want to hold off on S5 in hopes of buying a boxed set, and they'll bite themselves in the ASS if they decide that low sales on S5 = no boxed set.

They better have actor commentaries for that sucker or I don't care how pretty it is.

[identity profile] jedi40.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
That site always quotes that price, ye when amazon gets the boxsets in it is wayyy lower.

[identity profile] k8t85.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
$70!?!?! OMG! Even though I love the show to bits that's just ridiculous! I won’t pay that much for a box of DVDs.

[identity profile] crayonbreakygal.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it will be lower. I can't remember a time when a DVD set has been the MSRP, unless you're Farscape.

I have all the episodes on my DVR also. I thought I was the only one who did stuff like that.

s5 sga

i got 1-4 for 29.99 each and will be waiting for a reasonable price, tptb have already stated that the extras are slim and no bloopers. so not worth 70 bucks in this economy.

sga s5 dvd and the frikken movie

[identity profile] kjhamnik.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
s5 will be purchased at walmart where you can easily get it for less than $30. On "the" side note, I really wish the jfonline fans would calm down, I mean PuLeasssseeee, you all have yourselves so worked up over NOTHING. Rachel Lutrell mixed her words in an interview and suddenly there is no movie??????? CALM DOWN. If the film is shot in the fall that will NOT interfer with anyone doing any tv projects they all wrap in late august and early sept. Geez they're over there crying their collective eyes out!!!!!!!! Soz, but it's really out o'hand LOLOLOLOLOLOL. PS, not a Moz fan here, but he don-make no decisions he just a writa peeps!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Think we'll have to see what other DVD set's prices are to see if they're jacking up the suggested price across the board, which, in this econcomy, isn't going to sell. DVD sales are down, so they're gambling diehard fans will spend more. We'll have to see what other MGM DVD tv sets are going for, I suppose.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think this is one of the few DVD sets where you barely get any actors doing commentaries, which is odd.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's the MSRP - manufacturer's suggested retail price - but it is higher than normal, as I recall.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, farscape. THAT is expensive!!!

Re: sga s5 dvd and the frikken movie

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, since I have bought SGA at walmart, I can attest it's never been under $30. Always $34 or so, plus tax ;) As for JF fans, people do vent on lists - no worse than the stuff on Gateworld (although that gets 'censored' at times). Actually, Mallozzi said the movie would begin filming till SGu was over, which is October, so it probably wouldn't wrap until November/December.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Shame about the bloopers :(

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
That's only if you don't buy in the first week, but it's just MSRP. It'll be lower.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. don't know about the commentaries.

[identity profile] lysambre.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed it seem a bit excessive in price, especially considering the quality of season 5. But then when it comes out on amazon it's usually much lower.

In any case this time I'll wait until the price is super low, I'm not going to spend any big money on a season of which I only enjoyed three or four episodes (I still want to own it though, for capping purpose or just re-watching the bits that I liked).

And reading the other comments, it appears that the bonuses are not worth much either : me not happy as the bonuses are usually my favorite thing since all the way back in SG1. Sad times :(.

[identity profile] duffy-99.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point.

[identity profile] kjhamnik.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if the cost of mailing it would be less than the 4 bucks plus tax. We don't have tax up in Oregon and it's always been 29.99 here, maybe I can help when the time comes? I hate to see anyone have to pay more just because they don't live where there isn't sales tax -- I hate sales taxes LOL.

I'd heard that gateworld was censored, but JFonline is censored too, by JFonline, not everyone gets to have an opinion there.

(raises hand)
Lol

Do you live in the NW also?? Everyone else seems to be paying more than me, cept you.

[identity profile] jedi40.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Suggested price....does not mean the final price. It has been that high are some what lower before, but when it comes out on Amazon it is not that high.

[identity profile] jedi40.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I just found this bit of news in my inbox

No, JFOnline isn't censored. I should know. I'm one of the mods. We haven't deleted any posts in ages. We will tell folks to 'move along' if a thread gets too cantakerous, but censorship means posts get deleted outright, which happens on GW a bit.

It felt like booting, maybe i'm wrong, that happens. I was involved in a convo about Anheuser Busch. I never stated that I know JF, nor do I, nor did I say who I am or anything so rude or silly. I have connections to the company through my father that is all, and I never stated that. I was just sharing info in that thread, it was last summer, long long time ago to me LOL. At any rate, it took days for my replies and posts to be on the site and by then the replies etc... obviousely made no sense. I wrote and complained about it and was "booted" I guess, IDK. At any rate, it's gotten far too, er uhm, little old ladies drooling kind of, just the vibe not the actual peeps. I still read it and, well, laugh alot. too bad.
made me sad at the time, it's okay.

No, that was the spam filter. I discovered that some people - and I have never found out why - if they made multiple posts it got clogged up in 'to be approved' or 'spam' filter, which I only found out about if I logged on to the site. As for little old ladies, well, the group varies from young to older, yes.

That's cool. Thx.

er, no not their actual age, in fact I can't tell at all how old ppl are on that site. They all seem to write very well, with some exceptions to translating out of foriegn languages, but that's to be expected and I can understand what's being written. It really sucks that I felt shut out by that situation and then I went offline for like a three month rest, I was losing alot of money on worldwinner at the time ROTFL.

thx for explaining/figuring it out etc...

btw i'm 41!
