News on SGA season 2 DVD set (US)

Is the federal government behind its release?

I only ask this because, yet again, the season 2 DVD set of Stargate Atlantis, once said to be released in January 2007, is now pushed back to March 6, 2007. Crap, I'm not sure if I believe this is a firm date anymore. Sorta like, I'll believe this set is coming out when I have it clutched in my fingers! ;)

But, check out http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6672 for the full details of episodes on each disc (well, the entire 2nd season) plus commentaries. I still don't why they've got SG1 folks doing commentary on SGA episodes. I don't recall SGA actors commenting on SG1.

Anyway, big thanks to the above site for keeping us poor fans informed.

It came it in Australia at the end of November. All hail the code-free DVD player! *bows down in worship*

Gnashes teeth in, um, er, jealousy.... yeah, I read about that and went WHY WHY WHY are they forcing us to wait here in the States??

Starting to think I should buy a code-free DVD player and start ordering stuff from overseas! ;)

There's not very expensive these day. I got mine for $80 (plus $30 for shipping, acause the silly store would only ship Fed-ex :-P) and its been worth every penny!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2006-12-04 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I know.... but it could be so expensive once I start buying every UK DVD I can get my paws on ! ;)

Yuppers! That's where it gets expensive...snatching up all those wonderous goodies you couldn't get before. ;-)

Wow, David is doing commentary on EIGHT episodes! That's really above and beyond the call of duty. Joe is doing three--most of the SG1 stars have done only one or two each year.

I also don't much care for Peter DeLuise and Gary Jones doing commentary, since they act like a couple of 15-year-old boys. But, since we've heard that they don't pay the actors or directors to do any of these commentaries, I guess it's just whoever wants to take the time and has the inclination to do it.

Unless I missed it, Rachel and Torri only comment on one episode each and Jason none at all. It would be interesting to know if they weren't asked, if they weren't interested, or if they are just shy (which might be the case with Jason).

Yeah, I've seen friends fall prey to DVD sales. Ain't pretty ;)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2006-12-04 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad Joe is doing several this year, and David is well - might as well take advantage of his gift of gab! :) Yeah, sorry to see that Torri and Rachel are doing just one.... and Jason ... I get the feeling he's too shy to do it, although it would be cool if you'd hear his Satedan 'grunt' in the background once in a while as comment ;)

Woooah, a code-free DVD player? Where'd you get one? Thanks!

[identity profile] agentcat47.livejournal.com 2006-12-04 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah. It annoys me too. It's also weird that they don't have that "Road To A Dream" thing with Martin Gero. I don't really care though, because I saw it, and he complains the WHOLE time. He had a nice conversation with Torri and with Joe on set, but that's the only reason I'd watch it. Thought it was a big waste of time to watch.

I got mine through Amazon, though it would be cheaper if you could find it local. Shipping was horrendous. Just do a search on Multi-region DVD players.

[identity profile] agentcat47.livejournal.com 2006-12-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I have heard some DVDs actually don't play on code-free DVD players. Have you had any trouble with that? What regions do you usually end up buying DVDs for?

[identity profile] karri-kln1671.livejournal.com 2006-12-04 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I have played region 1 (US), region 2 (UK), and region 4 (AU/NZ) DVDs and haven't had any problems with any of them.

[identity profile] agentcat47.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, awesome! What brand is yours? I just found one from Toshiba; only 84 USD--not that bad.

[identity profile] karri-kln1671.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
That's sound like what I have. Its the same brand and right around the same price, before shipping. :-)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
ah, sigh, sure hope the set isn't being held up for stuff like that. I just want the actors, or crew. no offense to the writers, but usually when you watch then, you tend to snooze. the directors are more fun!

[identity profile] agentcat47.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, cool! Thanks so much! You've been a big help. Problem is that I already have a DVD player, and I have never purchased any UK dvds, just because we get so many good ones here. I also don't mind waiting for the Season 2 SGA DVD release.

Hmm, dunno, maybe once the one I have dies. :D
Thank you, again!

[identity profile] agentcat47.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I do too. I actually listened to the commentary as an .mp3 from someone for 'Trinity', because that's one of my favourite episodes of all time. the commentary was with writer damien kindler and director andy mikita, and both guys are really interesting. I found the commentary really interesting and enjoyable to listen to. I usually like listening to the actors, but it was really good to hear that commentary.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, maybe in March I'll be able to hear these commentaries ;)

[identity profile] agentcat47.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I love commentaries - they are some of the only special features (other than bloopers) that I would watch again and again. Not all of them are terribly interesting, but then again, I haven't heard every single one. I could always send you one, if you want.

[identity profile] bruinsfan.livejournal.com 2006-12-05 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I still don't why they've got SG1 folks doing commentary on SGA episodes.

My impression is that Gary Jones spends so much time with his nose up DeLuise's ass that it's easier to just bring him to the commentary tapings than it would be to have him removed like a barnacle.
