Thank you
I want to thank everyone who left condolecenses in my previous post. They were very, very much appreciated. I have not yet had the time to reply to them all, but I do plan to.
The house still feels empty, and way too large, now that my mother is gone. I've been going through papers (important for probate, etc.) and some closets - some of which have unopened sheets dating back to the 60s. The Mad Men set decorators would have a stroke looking at all the old stuff in this house! I found a heating pad cover from the 60s/70s, with this 'flower power' green power design. Very retro.
I got up two Christmas trees - tiny ones. Alas, the Dalek remains undecorated this year. Hopefully next year. Here's just a sampling of some of the decorations. I need to find mini-Dalek globes. Alas, the Godzilla ornaments are too big/heavy for the Christmas tree, which is one of those tiny table-top varities.
On the good side, the two Stargate Atlantis (one's a Stargate Atlantis/SG-1 crossover) novels I ordered from Fandemonium arrived! I just may take a break from cleaning/probate stuff and read a book!

A few weeks ago I posted some pictures of my own Christmas decorations which are mostly wooden figures, if you like to see them here: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/35688.html
I hope you are doing okay. Loosing the mother is difficult at any time, but at Christmas time I imagine it is even worse.

Like your Xmas decorations too. Ooh, the sheep in the sweater was adorable.
Doing okay. Xmas was very quiet without my mother around.

Too bad the Dalek is gone. That BBC shop is very weird, they change it all the time. Back in November, when we first heard of them, you could buy each one individually for £14. When I wanted to order a few weeks later it suddenly was a set of the two and should cost £35. Which is far more than £28. Yes, I can count.
So I actually wrote to them and asked and they said, at the beginning it was a special price and now the regular one. I still hesitated a bit and a few days later the set suddenly did cost only £30. That's when I bought it, the TARDIS I gave to my brother for Christmas and I wanted the red Dalek.
Speaking of Christmas ornaments, you have seen last year's Stargate ornament? It had the Stargate and Jack, Sam, Daniel & Teal'c, and it had a button for making noises like "Open the iris". This year there was a second one, but I did not like it, it was about Jack shooting the replicators at Thor's ship and all the battle noises. Who wants that at his Christmas tree?
Love the sheep as well, saw it and had to buy it! Thanks!

That'll be a cheaper way to do it ;) I have people seen doing it and it looks great. There are also pictures in the net where lifesized Daleks have been dressed as Christmas trees, all with blinking lights and such...
Here is a link where you can see the new Stargate ornament. If you scroll down, there also is a video where you can play the sound it makes.

I wonder if anyone bought it and whether there will be more next year or not. My friend suggested, that first they made one of the team and now intend to give each one a single one as well. But replicators? Really?

So Sorry
(Anonymous) 2011-12-31 04:57 am (UTC)(link)I found it so hard, the cleaning out after my mother`s passing. I`d respected the boundaries regarding her belongings when she was alive, it felt so wrong to be going through her belongings after her passing. And then I`d find the most interesting things and want to know the story behind them.
I reread the Pern novels, and then my brother and I watched SG-1 series on DVD. I hope the SGA novel is wonderful escape.
