So, backing up LJ

Was on Twitter when I tripped over posts such as http://www.metafilter.com/164293/LiveJournal-represents-social-media-without-borders talking about US/Russian stuff and Live Journal.

I do need to back up LJ. Eons behind on that. I hear Dreamwidth is good, but is there a way to backup everything, post, photos AND comments that other folk make?

Thanks!

[livejournal.com profile] dr_tectonic describes it in this post. It's really simple. I've had a DW journal for a while now and periodically back up there. It doesn't keep my many icons because I don't have them at DW, but it does keep posts, photos, and all comments. (It changes commenters' ID to OpenID if they don't have DW, but you can still tell who it is: you can see an example from my own imported post here.)

Thanks. Now to just make time to do it. Hmm, will put it on calendar.

I opened a Dreamwidth account several years ago, during one of the DOS attacks I think. I'm margec01 there, too. I even downloaded the directions on moving over there: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=127 But time passed, I was lazy, and so few people are here anymore it didn't seem worth the bother.

I'm paid up here until Nov 2017. I nearly let it go this year, insofar as I didn't bother to check if I had a recent credit card on file or an expired one. But it's only$20 a year so when my card was still a good expiration date, I didn't bother to cancel. But it was a close thing.

I think there are more people over at DW now--I mean more people compared to lj now. Or maybe not.

Its a shame to feel so ambivalent about something that was so wonderful just 10 years ago. But in computer years, that's about 50, I guess. ;-)

Your link doesn't work?

https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=127 - Strangely it's working when logged in :D

Okay, lets try this one: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=86

So weird, because I get a good page when I click on my saved bookmark, but when I use the link I left here--the same exact link!--I get Page Not Found.

And you can see above, marilla's link is the same thing. Ah, the vagaries of the Internet.

Thanks!!

Nah, I've been bad with LJ myself. Once SGA went off the air I sort got sucked into reality and fannish pursuits languished, but want to get back to fannish stuff, at least contact with folk. Still have no new fandom but fun to read what others have to say or write.

So, what's going on now?

Honestly not sure, but figure backup is prudent these days.

Let me know if if this is something I need to worry about because I would like to get my credit card removed from LJ if all this stuff I have been reading is real?

Thanks. Not sure what is going on but want to back up.

I finally moved over to dreamwidth as I'm deleting my lj. I'm still libra_traveller over there. Come find me, especially if you do that back up.
