The Sci Fi Channel has given a fifth-season renewal to "Stargate Atlantis," commissioning 20 fresh episodes." 'Atlantis' truly came out from under the shadow of its sister series this year and proved that it's a hit in its own right," said Sci Fi's Mark Stern, exec veep of original programming. The show's predecessor, "Stargate SG-1," ran for 10 seasons on Sci Fi before completing its run last year.
In its Friday 10 p.m. timeslot, "Atlantis" has chalked up a season-to-date average of 1.8 million total viewers, easily outperforming Sci Fi's primetime average of about 1.3 million total viewers.
Stern said Sci Fi is in "a good place" when it comes to scripted original series, anticipating lots of buzz for the final 22-episode season of "Battlestar Galactica," now in production. Sci Fi has also renewed "Eureka" for a third season and greenlit "Revolution," a two-hour pilot for a proposed series. Stern said Sci Fi has made no decision yet on whether to renew "Flash Gordon," another Friday-night original, for a second season.

Yeah..., all they had to do for that was killing of some Atlantis original characters and bring over an old SG-1 character.
That shows just how much that show is on it's own. *rolls eyes*
Sorry, I just couldn't keep quiet. I'm still too annoyed by all the cast changes.
And as glad as I am that they got a 5th season (now they have a chance to bring back Carson and Weir *wink*) this also shows TPTB that what they did was right. Otherwise they wouldn't have gotten a 5th season. At least that's how it must look to them. :-(

I just fear that getting Beckett back (which would still be great, even though I like Keller) seems more likely then getting Weir back. They reduced her role for a reason which probably was that they didn't know how to make her more part of the team. And I don't think that anything changed that yet.
Man, it's sad that seeing a dead character again seems more likely then getting back a character that's still alive...

I guess that I've had enough for now. I have more than enough canon material to work with and I could live off of fandom's fiction and artwork alone. (Those people create some wicked stuff!)
I won't, but I could.

now all they need to do is second Carter back to the SGC for a while, rescue Weir while Carter's away (seeing as she thwarted John's rescue mission idea) and get Beckett back and I'll be ecstatic.
That and actually show Teyla's baby, rather than just have it mysteriously vanish from sight like what happens in other genre shows
orthey could pull a voyager and keep her pregnant in s5 as well...
