Stargate Atlantis: "Harmony" review (SPOILERS)

A spoiler ridden review of Stargate Atlantis episode "Harmony."

or

Sheppard and McKay's Adventures in Babysitting

Wow, who would have thought one would feel absolute sympathy for Rodney McKay?

The ads were so-so, and it could have easily been this year's "The Tower,"  but it was well written and the Sheppard-McKay snark was in high gear, and I gotta admit, Rodney's suggestion of stunning the kid was so funny, cuz you could see Sheppard was actually thinking about it! Yeah, Harmony's like a little female Rodney McKay, well, with the ego, not the brains.

Shall do a running commentary... and it won't be huge.

"When you get cranky, you get hit." Heh..

And Rodney's nose leads them to the cave with the kid cooking up dinner.

Ohmygawd, Harmony was hitting on Sheppard. "One day I'll need a king." Bwahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!

And Harmony asking Rodney about love? And then Rodney promises not to get in the way of Harmony pursuing Sheppard? Aw, how sweet, and so funny.  Snort.

Oh, and Jerry Penacoli from EXTRA was the second Genii taht Shepaprd stunned.

Loved how Shepaprd called Harmony "little lady."

And how Harmony thinks Sheppard is an idiot for taking her pendant, but now she adores McKay for saving her.

OHMYGAWD, THE PAINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bwahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things learned from this episode. Rodney and Katie aren't an item anymore, at least not the way he was talking about the sisters.
Women of all ages fall for Sheppard ;)
And for McKay ;)

This was funny!!!!

I really enjoyed tonight's eppy. Reminded me of Han and Luke rescuing Princess Lea....very well done and fun!!

Especially with that royal ending. But the picture of John cowering, hehe.

I have to say I liked it as well.

Especially when McKay called Shep a kiss ass at the end. :)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That was so funny. But, so true ;)

[identity profile] libra-traveller.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
It was fantastic, I was laughing the whole way through. I could barely control myself. Ah, what a great hour that was.

[identity profile] clarkangel.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
God I hated the painting thing and the whole bit after John used the drones. It was stupid, to me, and just gave me a bad taste after having enjoyed the McShep and the ep itself to that point. Figures.

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, I didn't like the painting, making John look silly, but it didn't ruin the fun of the rest of the eppy, though my expectations were not high to begin with.

It made me sad because he risked his ass for them and then Harmony is so cruel! Well, that's coming from a John luver and a McShep fan that thought the episode was ruined by that scene. :(

[identity profile] tipper-green.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
That painting had me in tears. I wasn't sure what to expect. I figured it'd be funny, but the way they painted Sheppard cowering behind the ruin? Oh my God! I laughed so hard, I think I hurt something!

[identity profile] libra-traveller.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. That picture and then Harmony looking out at her people all satisfied, snorts.

[identity profile] parislove27.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't look 13 though

[identity profile] tipper-green.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Really? To me, she looks just like my 13 year old neice. They also act, amusingly, rather similar...

[identity profile] parislove27.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
My cousin just turned 14 and he was like Harmony except he's a guy! Ha, he was just as mischevious and blaming stuff on me all the time!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see a good piece of fanfic as Rodney took a picture of it and brought it back to Atlantis with him.... ;) To, um, SHARE.

My 14-yr-old totally called the portrait *g*

If John and Rodney had a daughter, her name would be Harmony. Also, John is a Queen...it's in canon now :P

I thought the painting was hysterical and so typical for a teenager - she had it painted from her point of view and Rodney threw himself over her to save her life. I didn't expect the kid to be a brat, but her snark with McKay was a scream.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the painting was classic pre-teen love/hate, etc. After all, Rodney, as you said, tossed himself over her to save HER, while the cad Sheppard ripped the necklace (eegads!) from her neck (never mind it was to save all of them). I don't think, however, Harmony learned too many lessons as she felt everybody would do her bidding, while Sheppard told her it wasn't that way.

[identity profile] parislove27.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I understand where Harmony is coming from. All of those pre-teen crushes aren't so far back! If somebody like Sheppard ripped MY necklace off, I would be evil to them even though they saved my butt. At least Sheppard DID save their skins, but it's disappointing that Harmony didn't learn much.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think only fanfic might revisit Harmony and see if she's matured or not.

[identity profile] parislove27.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Say they went to visit her in one years time. I'd bet that she'd be more mature since she had had some time to rule and figure out what it's all about. But I still think she'd get a kick out of the painting on the wall behind her throne! :D

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
*lol* Yep, she was even hanging off DH in between takes - JM's got a video clip of her digging in his vest pockets for the LSD & playing w/ it. :) DH's comment was something to the effect of "You know, they do make a Rodney McKay action figure..." or something like that. ;)

Yes! Lowering expectations works again! I expected to hate this episode. I enjoyed it!

It's all David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan: their faces were priceless just so many times! Yeah, Rodney was getting the short end of the stick until the end--and arguably even then, if Harmony keeps chasing him, poor guy. ;-)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-26 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I had very little expectations for this episode, judging from the already-done-to-death type plot, but was pleasantly surprised. What made it truly work were Shep and McKay's exrpession, and the snarky bantering. Quite honestly, it would have been more fun had there been a real dragon to slay, but me thinks the budget couldn't have handled it, and alas, they used a dragon on SG1 already. darn.

Oh, I liked it better without a dragon! I never did think the SG-1 dragon looked right, and I wouldn't have wanted to trade any of the banter for more shooting! I was pleased with the mini-drones, because I didn't see that coming.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
True, the banter overrules the shooting stuff! ;) Yeah, the mini drones were neat. Wonder if they'll show up later on in the series.

That was such a funny episode.
I want that portrait in my room!!
"That's pretty much how I remember it."
:P

Thanks :)
