Joe Flanigan at VES Awards

Stargate Atlantis was nominated at the 6th Annual Visual Effects Society VES)  Awards, held this past Sunday. Although they didn't win in the best visual effects in a broadcast show category, Joe Flanigan was threre. Picture of Mr. & Mrs. Flanigan below the cut :)

Here's a tiny shot.

Mucho big thanks to that special fan who finds these great shots :)

Thanks for the pic - that's very nice. I've never seen a picture of his wife before, but she's pretty. :D

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, and they seem like a happy couple :)

[identity profile] tringasolitaria.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
That's awesome. :)

The fact he went to a visual effects award show to support SGA colors me all sorts of impressed. He looks so handsome and this is the first larger picture I've seen of his wife...she's pretty..like a natural pretty, not a fake model type...which makes me smile.

Thank you for sharing this pic!

Yup, she looks real. I must admit I'm tired of Hollywood fake. I mean, it would be great if women took off half the layer of makeup to look more natural, like Torri. I think her freckles are adorable.

There are more pics here, for those who might be interested...

I didn't see any of Joe, or am I just not surfing that site correctly?

What [livejournal.com profile] lenkti said.

There weren't many, but there are some nice ones of him on the podium talking.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, that was a good find.

[identity profile] nightspring.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you possibly link to the pics of him on the podium? I couldn't find them! :(

well, it's not my style of outfit (his wife's) but then I'm more of a jeans person myself. In fact, the last time I wore a dress was... was.... um.... did I wear one this century? Umm.... ;)

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just heartened that Joe's wife isn't some plastic bimbo who's fasion sense is very much like my own :-P

[identity profile] anjak-j.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Like it's so classy to slag people off in other people's journals???

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Um, guys, let's just talk about the pictures, not what others are saying, okay? thx.

[identity profile] anjak-j.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
My sincerest apologies for the retort [livejournal.com profile] wraithfodder. Or rather for making it in your journal...

Thx :)

Hmm. People can be really nasty about Katherine. I saw on IMDB where someone said she looked like a 'mutt' and a certain thunker basically agreed, but said that's not something you say. Um, hello? You just agreed and therefore said you felt the same, cow! I was so annoyed. I reported both posts, but of course they're still there.

I just like that she's normal. She's a normal person, not some fake blonde with silicon.

I will say, Joe needs to lose the beard, though. It makes him look 10 years older!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I agree the beard does make Joe look older; does with most men, which is why you see young teen boys making pitiful attempts at beards ;) but as for IMDB. I stopped reading their comments a long time ago because, well, I think since Yahoo killed comments on news items, all those, er, um, people, flocked over to IMDB to chatter... Nope, best to avoid raising the blood pressure and not visit IMDB except for credit info.

Awwww. Cute couple! She's very lovely - as others have said - in a very real way.

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I remember reading somewhere she's a professional photographer, so she's taken some really nice b&w shots of him w/ the kids camping.

He looks good dressed up, or in jeans (which we know are his favorite clothes! :p) and she looks very lovely in this shot.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen a B&W shot of him at a campsite, but never knew where it came from. Yeah, he looks great in jeans. I sorta like him better in sorta rumpled clothes than a suit! ;)

[identity profile] a-pilgrim-soul.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought his sister was the photographer - isn't his wife a painter? I could be wrong I'm not very up on anyone's private life but I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wait, yes, wife is painter, and hadn't known about sister. I must admit I know little about their private lives except what is stuck out in standard bios, and even then, can't recall most of it ;)

[identity profile] a-pilgrim-soul.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Me either but every now and then I'll read something and it'll take up residence somewhere at the back of my brain - though I normally get the details wrong.

[identity profile] saltyd.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Great picture! Joe looks tired though, doesn't he? And I agree, the beard should go, but the 5 o'clock shadow should stay :)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I've often wondered if he always grew a beard on hiatus, or discovered the joys of not sharving after having to grow one for "Epiphany."

[identity profile] a-pilgrim-soul.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you remember me saying that I thought the jacket he was wearing on the PCA video was velvet - well that one definitely is and a white shirt and tie? He really was at the back of the queue when the handed out dress sense wasn't he?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, like many guys, he doesn't have a lot of fashion sense ... but, but... he chooses his jeans and boots well ;) one thing i've noticed over the years in watching SG1/SGA actors is that, um, not a lot of them are big on fashion, which means they're just regular folk like us ;)

[identity profile] nightspring.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, *that* is regular fashion sense? :p

[identity profile] faekitty71.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I see Joe forgot to shave this morning. :-)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Forgot to shave for several mornings! ;)

[identity profile] listy01.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Fab pic, thanks for sharing, they make a nice couple, warm smiles from both of them. Thats one very very lucky lady to have bagged such a hottie as Joe. However Joe needs to lose the tie he looks more relaxed when he goes casual :) but thats just the fan girl in me talking, I lack any fashion sense, so can't really comment.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I have no fashion sense, but I do think white tie on white shirt is, well, not fashionable... or the black velvet jacket, but then I look at the face and forget the clothes ;)

Joe's Beard

[identity profile] lcshepp.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I had read that during the writer's strike that members if the writer's guild and the actor's guild were not going to shave. Some felt that's why Hewlett had a beard also for the Peoples Choice Awards. However at the time of the VES Awards the strike was over so maybe he didn't get around to shaving. He has said at cons he does not like beards. Joe Mallozzi said the the "boys will be clean shaven at the start of S5".

Re: Joe's Beard

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what folks figure; they grew the beards for the strike, although not having to shave every day wouldn't be so bad either...
