What a day....Zombie Bambi, part 1
What do you do with an eviscerated body? I mean, really? We called the town and they said, not on public property, it's yours.
Yes, the joys of suburbia. NOT.
So, the body and its bits lay all over the front lawn. Sometime last night, a pack of coyotes attacked a deer on our driveway, just mere feet from the house, chased it about twenty feet ripping off all the hair from the underbelly, then began to disembowel it alive. There was a path of hair, then bits of internal organ, and then a long trail of blood where the coyotes dragged to the edge of the property near the stone wall, and ate out all the guts.
I found it when I let the dog out before the ambulance arrived. I said, why is the dog sniffing a pile of snow in the front yard? Wait, we havent' had snow in weeks, it's all gone (except for the pile in the area down here the road where the sun don't shine, really, the sun never hits that spot). Anyway, my eyes follow fur and blood trail and then I saw the partially eaten carcass. joy. At least it's winter, so the cold will keep down the stench (you don't want to see a four-day dead deer in the summer, nope, nope).
But while in the E.R., was talking with a paramedic who said, oh no, don't bury it, they'll be back tonight for the meat. And yup, after going home, arriving in the dark, I get out of the car and hear the most hideous hyena-ish noises out back. I'm like, "THEY"RE BACK!" so I rush into the house and hope they finish it off. Just went outside to walk tthe dog a few minutes ago and found that the carcass moved at least 30 feet, and more is missing, so... we're leaving it there it's eaten. Fortunately the neighbors can't see the front yard there or else they'd be pitching a fit.
And since I'm so bone-tied from dead bambi bits everywhere, and the ER experience (boring but very stressful) I'll get ARK OF TRUTH tomorrow and hopefully be able to watch it.

I hope your family member is OK and I am sorry for all the other animal mayhem you endured today.
This means you are done for the year.... Right??!!

Oh, this was in the paper the other day (Dead wildlife showing up in people's yards is a fairly common occurrence where I live, unfortunately.) The suggested response was dumping Lime powder (like on CSI) to expedite dessication of the carcass.

Deer got gnoshed on more last night so the body cavity is emptied outt. I'm hoping they come back tonight to rip off limbs to gnosh elsewhere. And it would be nice if they took the head, too.

That's horrible!!
I'm not surprised by the authorities reaction though - some bloke in my home town had a nest of funnel web spiders in his new (imported) car, they said it was on his drive so they wouldn't touch it. Luckily the local zoo was more willing to help and now have a healthy batch of funnel webs in their collection!

And Bambi is still out there on the lawn, although a LOT less. We've decided to see how much will go away as apparently the wildlife is still noshing on the remains.

these delightful things around here too.....I am convinced my security light is not just turning on and off by itself....
I am almost afraid to look given what I have seen on the side
of the road etc. in the morning and in the back part of
our property.......

I can relate......I live in a heavily wooded
area near a main two lane road....there are evergreens
and deciduous which just cry for wildlife in
abundance.....
We have had coyotes, cougars and deer as well as
assorted other wildlife.....I hate even looking outside
when the flood light is on in front area of my house
and even less likely to look in the back near the front
door.........
I am certain nobody would come here either if there was
a kill...............

dragged the body through shrubs and over the stonewall t
You really think so??
Did I mention black bear too?? it is getting so the
animal control is called more for wild than for domestic
disturbances when it comes to animals......of course they
cannot deal with it, so Fish and Wild Game has to come....
I honestly have no idea what I would do in your circumstances
When I lived in San Diego on top of a mesa, along
a canyon we were in the family room one day and there
were doves outside on the lawn...then there was a flurry
of wings etc. and when it was gone the doves were gone.....
nothing but a few feathers......to this day I have no idea
what came in full throttle...my guess is probably a bald or
one of the red tipped wing eagles....or maybe a hawk.
It was wild to watch.......
Re: dragged the body through shrubs and over the stonewall t
Ah, there was a black bear in the next town over, but someone killed it with a car, so that's it for bears around here :(
