Stargate Atlantis novel news

Alas, bad Stargate Atlantis news... (yes, besides the cancellation). The novels #4-Halcyon and #5-Exogenesis are out of print for the foreseeable future. In other words, unless there is suddenly a market for thousands of copies (which is what the print run would require), you have to shop used book stores. Right now, greedy people are charging $70 and more for a used paperback. Grrr!  (oh and I got this news direct from Stargatenovels.com)

Sorry!

FWIW to anyone who may be looking, I was dying to find Exogenesis and found it this summer for the cost of the book + shipping from the UK to the US from a website called forbidden planet. I couldn't find it anywhere else for less than 80 bucks.

Yeah, $80 for a paperback?? Good grief.

No kidding...I love me some Rodney, which is why I really wanted this one, but I can't afford to love him that much ;-)

Honestly, if anyone tries to tell me that TPTB are NOT trying to bury SGA under a pile of rubble, I will not believe them.

You know what ? Soon they're going to announce that due to "unforeseen circumstances" they had to cancel the movie(s) too and that it means it all ends there. I would not even be all that surprised (absolutely disgusted yes, but not surprised).

Thank the gods I managed to find my copies at local B&N stores last year. The store inventory search isn't turning up anything now! O_O

[identity profile] erin-anderson.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well I own both. Nice to know that I could buy plane tickets with them if I actually wanted to sell them.

I noticed that when I was browsing Amazon and thinking about what Atlantis books I was missing. Unfortunately, Halcyon is the only one I need.

[identity profile] kimberweeme.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I have neither of those. Great. If gas weren't so precious right now (I live in Houston), I'd drive down to the B&N. I swear I saw Halcyon there a couple of weeks ago.

[identity profile] arsilver-angel.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well.... I'm glad I was collecting them. I already have every SGA novel.. But I wanna collect SG-1.. and those are hard to get.

[identity profile] mercury973.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
See- no market at all for SGA.
Grrr. I have Exogenesis, but not the other. Bummer.

[identity profile] squonk79.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Good grief!!

I had a quick look on the Amazon UK site to see what the situation was there. The cheapest you can get Halycon for is £62.19 (about $111) and Exogenesis starts at £51 (about $92)!!!

I've got Exogenesis but not Halycon, and at those prices, i ain't gonna either!

Unless you win Powerball, which isn't likely. I'm sure not winning it :(

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Call them up and ask and if they've got it, plead with them to hold it!

[identity profile] jedi40.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I get all my SGA books from here:
http://www.stargatenovels.com/ they have #4 available but #5 is temp out of stock.

I'm in the same boat. Need Halcyon and The Chosen. Managed to get Exogenesis purely by chance at a bookstore a couple of weeks ago. But there is no way I can afford to pay $70+ for a paperback novel. :(

SGA/SG1 Novel Recs?

[identity profile] catcrazy5.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I had never really thought about buying any of the SGA/SG1 novels until reading this thread. Are they any good as stories, or do you just buy them because they are associated with Stargate? Any recs?

Well I just read the SGA ones and yes there are some good stories in them..as for which ones to get all of them of course..I get all of mine from here http://www.stargatenovels.com/

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Crap, I think I just saw The Chosen at Borders last night. Alas, it's the Borders NOT in town so I won't be going back up there for at least a month... I did put an order in with them for both Halycon and Exogenesis, so will see if I can get those as dupes.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, the last email I got from Tom at stargatenovels is that both books are out of print for the foreseeable future, unless there is suddenly a market for a thousand of a title... :(

I suppose a lot would depend on what you're looking for -- ship, whump, which character... my favorite is "Casualties of War" by Elizabeth Christensen, which did win a Scribe Award.

Odd the website says that they have #4 for sale

Hmm must check!

Halcyon and Exogenesis

(Anonymous) 2008-09-22 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I got both these books new from Waterstones book store in the UK. I am from the United states, so the shipping is what cost me a lot for both books, with shipping, I paid $70, but then found out that I could of gotten if for a lot less cause the guy on the phone was charging me like 2nd day air which I didn't need.

What I did is went to www.waterstones.com typed in stargate atlantis and all of what they sold came up. Both books were out of stock at the time (July 2008) online so I clicked on check availability in branch. Then I emailed the stores in which several responded that they did have them in stock or that they were coming in (someone over there is publishing them or they have them in storage). Anyway, I ended up calling cause I was not patient (of course I called from work so it didn't cost me anything, but I don't recommend this cause it cost my company $95 for me to get the book, but don't tell).

I had no problem, got the book in a few days. The only problem with emailing is the paying for it thing, it is not a secure site, but I was willing to take that chance. Exogenisis was worth it, but Halcyon was so/so.

Good luck if you try this. I just went on the site to make sure I spelled it right and it seemed like Exogenisis is available and Halcyon you have to click the branch thing.

Good luck!

Okey-doke. Well, Borders just sent me a postcard telling me Halycon is definitely out of print.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
well, i see astronomical prices being asked - but nobody's biting yet, I don't think.

Nope I don't see anyone biting either. And I could really use the fundage right now...*sigh*
