Not all Stargate Atlantis sets being 'trashed'
Phew. Apparently the Solutions blog is on top of this. Alas, i couldn't post till I got home from work.
However, it still sucks that basically all you hear in the press is SGU SGU! Might as well get some cheerleaders to chant it. Hmmm, if "Heroes" keeps going down in the ratings, there may be one unemployed cheerleader! ;)
Got a reply back from the author of the article who, oddly enough, couldn't answer my question of 'are all the sets being destroyed?' Weird...
Joe Mallozzi just said on his blog....
One of the great things about doing this daily blog is that it affords me the opportunity to head off rumors and fan concerns before. Today, for example, I see many a panicked reaction to a recent Vancouver Sun article that states: “Heavy machines are smashing the Stargate Atlantis TV series’ set in Bridge Studios’ 40,000-square-foot effects stage.” Well - yes, it’s true and, no, it’s not a big deal. We’re not talking about Stage 2 (that houses the wraith hive/facilities) or stage 3 (that houses the Daedalus/Apollo) or, more importantly, stage 6 (where the Atlantis gate room, control room, infirmary, Woolsey’s office, and various corridors are located). We’re talking about the FX Stage, the location of the (well played-out) village set, cave sets, catacombs, and one of our cafeteria views. No big loss. Hell, Stage 5 (which holds the SGC gate room, control room, briefing room, and several corridors) is still up despite the fact that SG-1 was cancelled two years ago! So, fear not. The movie will not be take place entirely on some forested planet.

The Vancouver Sun has a brief article on the tearing down of Stargate’s FX Stage to make way for the new television series Stargate Universe that will start filming in February next year. As the location of the popular Medieval Village Set, this stage has a lot of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis history tied up in it, and to see it being torn down to be rebuilt is bittersweet.

Oh, and I hear you on the Heroes front. Sometimes "younger demographics" are quite fickle. Take that SGU.
Also, charity idea..great one!

If you want to see me cry, wait until they announce that the Puddlejumper is taken apart.

It's not quite to the level of when AT was going to join the cast (at least not yet). Everything about season four revolved around her, to the point of interviews with other actors practically had "guest appearances" by AT. I know she literally walked in and joined someone else's interview. I think it was one with Rachel, but I'd have to look back to be certain.
In the last few years of SG-1 there had been a lot of fan complaints about the lack of going on old-fashioned off-world missions for a while. TPTB said they'd played that out, it wasn't interesting, etc. But then SGA started up and had exactly that sort of storyline and it was a big part of the promotion for the show. They were practically saying to fans "Like what we used to do on SG-1? You won't see it there, so watch our new show! It's going to be the bestest!"
It honestly took a lot for me to get beyond my resentment of TPTB's attitude then to even watch the show at all, much less beyond the pilot. I know a lot of people who never gave it a chance because of the 'tude.
TPTB are always in "the grass is always greener" mode. The next show is going to be the biggest, bestest, sexiest, most shit-blowing-upiest show EVAR. It's part of the business in a sense, but they don't have to be quite so obnoxious to existing fans to accomplish it. It's not like they've got an inexhaustible source of new fans once they piss off all the core ones.
