Stargate Universe casting sides (slightly revised)

Found some updated, minorly, casting sides for Stargate Universe. Under the cut...

NEW STUFF IN COLORED TEXT

Colonel Everett Young. 40’s handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O’Neill of ten years ago, but Young’s edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he’s temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY.

Series Regular; Tamara Johanson.Jon: 20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn’t afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do.

Cloe
Series Regular; Chloe Carpenter.: 20 ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father’s footsteps but for now she’s a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father’s tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character.

Series Regular; Eli Hitchcock.: 20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon’s character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in.

Series Regular; Lt. Jared Nash.: 20-25, all ethnicities. Junior SGC team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl’s fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he’s ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained but however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation.

Series Regular; Ron ’Psycho’ Stasiak.: 20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don’t want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His emotional expression ranges from sarcasm to anger. His past is a mystery but it’s clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he’d kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana’s character – ‘Hoot’ - in Blackhawk Down. Adam Baldwin at 20 could play him.Series Regular.

-----------------------------

Anyway, just a few little changes (which turned up in green for new stuff and red for deleted) that were made (found it at a casting site) - I am beginning to think Colonel Young is gonna DIE (ala Sumner) since Lt. Nash is 'thrust into the role of leader') Have I seen this plot before? Nah.... not going to gripe about this as I think we basically got it out of our system. Maybe a little mocking... ;)

And again, we have TPTB without a clue. Jons would most likely be an Air Force ParaJumper [USAF pararescue], a SF medic or a Navy Seal medic - all of which are well experienced 'enlisted' people. Not a freaking USAF officer. Those are mid-level experienced nurses or doctors in training at that rank.

13+ years and they *still* can't get it right. It's *not* rocket science, dudes.

Sheesh!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, think we all sorta gave up after a decade ;)

It's just so irritating. And from a writing standpoint, there's all sorts of great dynamics that could be used with the whole 'mixed group' [officer, enlisted, civillian, military] dynamic.

It just ticks me off that we as fan fic writers do a hell of a lot better research and they slack off *and* get paid for it.

[identity profile] b7-kerravon.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Well, YOU certainly know more than TPTB - you are absolutely right about the interesting dynamics such a group could have. Also, a Navy Seal or SF medic would be so much more interesting (and versatile) than a 'field medic' of an impossible rank.

Not counting *all* the fun of have a grunt or a squid on a zoomie/jarhead team.

Intercorps rivalries? We haz them. :}

[old used Army sergents - and yeah, I really need to change the icon to reflect the right branch of service...]

[identity profile] alyssa22.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. My. God.

This sounds like it's going to be really, really bad.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
One can hope, um, that the charaters are radically different than what's written...

[identity profile] these-dark-ages.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
So it's... SGA lite.

The ones that got screwed with SG:U seem to be the fans and actors that were apart of SGA.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, would seem so...
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Cuz since they hired a 'name' (Carlyle) having two names would be rather pricey, so someone's gonna have to die ;)

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I seriously can't be bothered checking out anything about SGU 90210. It just makes me unhappy and I like to live in my happy little world.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
that's why I stuck in under the cut this time! when i compared the two versions, didn't see much of a change, alas.

[identity profile] melibabe.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
It keeps reminding me of Deepwater Black (aka Mission Genesis) for some weird reason.

[identity profile] melibabe.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a science fiction series from Canada, back in the 90s. Here's the IMDB listing.

It was about a bunch of youngsters who wake up on a spaceship with no idea who they are, and slowly discover that they are clones meant to save a dying Earth. Or some such....

Notable only for having Nicole DeBoer and Gordon Michael Woolvett in the cast. ;)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Now it sounds vaguely familiar... well, at least the actors' names do..

[identity profile] b7-kerravon.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
As far as TPTB not doing basic research, did anyone else notice in "Brainstorm" when Keller claimed know about academic competition because she was in medical school for 6 years? In the United States, medical school is pretty well standardized at FOUR years. If it took her 6 years to graduate a 4 year curriculum, what the heck is she doing on Atlantis? (And Rodney didn't even raise an eyebrow - sigh) Seticat is absolutely correct about the rank comment above - the day I graduated medical school I was commissioned as a CAPTAIN. That is NOT the rank of a "Field Medic". (I love the idea of a Navy Seal or Special Forces medic, though - I wish seticat was on the development team for this show!)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I noticed that, but then I think I was too busy snarking at her acting like a school teacher than a doctor while flash-frozen guy lay on the floor for most of the episode...

Maybe you should write a nice long letter to TPTB, but post it in the web ;)

[identity profile] melibabe.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Given her supposed accelerated pace of learning to be head of medicine so young, I'd assumed she meant a six year undergrad/med school program. Two years undergrad, then medical school. They had it at my uni when I was young (though I think they eventually switched to a 7 year program because of too much burnout).

[identity profile] lysambre.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehe, I was reading this, and for the first time all I was thinking was : yeah, whatever, it's not like I'm going to watch anyway, couldn't care less...

How far the mighty have fallen :p.

[identity profile] ainaria.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, they're actually ALL like 20 years old. Well except the Colonel.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I suspect they're going to skew young, very young...

[identity profile] tashirasbubble.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for keeping us updated WF - Still not liking the sound of this... - alla Sumner - exactly!

I'd much rather the TPTB scrapped this and picked up the AU Sheppard for a Vegas Cop show instead - Now THAT I would watch!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, Sheppard as a cop in Vegas. I'd watch! :)

(Anonymous) 2009-01-02 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, if I were going to watch another Stargate spin off it would be AU Vegas, not 90210Universe.
(from tavabean, currently unable to access account).

[identity profile] faekitty71.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Like OMG, what's a stargate?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
If Chloe or whatever says that, sue! ;)

[identity profile] faekitty71.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone needs to explain to the Stargate folks that officers actually have to go to college and doctors have to go medical school. Hence most of the people should be in their *late* 20's.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've given up trying to tell them anything..
ext_1356: (Default)

[identity profile] sobelle.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
wandering in...

and while I have zero interest or intentions to watch SG:90210? I can't help but wonder wtf they're doing now... it's sorta like watching a train wreck in progress.

I guess it's just their well developed sense of self importance that spares them from actually doing basic research into the "real" backgrounds of alleged characters.

Anytime these morons come up? my upper lip snaps into an automatic sneer... gotta get some of that anti-wrinkle tape to hold it down. =0

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, who knows? The only bright spot I can see to the show is the casting of Robert Carlyle, but like Russell T Davies (of DR WHO fame) said "Did his agent see the show?" or words to that effect. I can't help but wonder how they enticed Carlyle to the show..

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
So, aside from Carlyle, whom as has been pointed out, is likely to get killed early on, they haven't announced any other casting info?

And, they're supposed to start shooting in like February?!?

This, this again, leaves me w/ like no hope for the future of the franchise. The PTBs have shown how lazy & stupid they are time & again. Hell, even Peter D. commented on how SGA stole one of his SG1 stories for SGA on an SGA commentary.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they've got about a month to cast. I suspect they can go FAST if they want to. Doesn't mean it's for the best. I think Carlyle signed for a few years, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
nialla: (I see dumb people)

[personal profile] nialla 2009-01-01 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible they have at least some of the characters cast, but since they're going to be little known 20-somethings (aka cheaper actors, so they can spend more money on blowing stuff up), they probably won't bother announcing each one.

They'll probably do a group announcement, except maybe for the one other "adult" actor.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I just hope they don't decide to announce the day after SGA goes off the air...
nialla: (BBC America)

[personal profile] nialla 2009-01-01 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
That would be in extremely poor taste, like announcing SGU is the new bright and shiny Stargate show everyone's just gonna lurve the day after SGA's cancellation is announced.

Oh. Wait. Nevermind.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Bwahahah, so right... Oh, cool icon ;)
nialla: (BBC America)

[personal profile] nialla 2009-01-01 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
The icon tells it like it is. ;)

[pining for the return of Torchwood]

[identity profile] miso-no-tsuki.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*sighs deeply*
Did they not mock this whole notion thoroughly in SG-1 "200"?
Yo, respec' those streetwise cool dudes and ho's.
Who wouldn't last five seconds in Pegasus, no matter how cute they all looked. Well the Wraith would enjoy them, Briefly.
Which I suspect will be my attention span to this show.
*sighs again*

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So far, the only reason to take a look at the show is Robert Carlyle...
