Salad fit for a deer

I got home from work, finally found the pruning shears I'd lost (looked everywhere outside and they turned up in the bathroom with the hair dryer, of all places!).

Anyway, when i looked out the window I spied nine (9!) deer in the side yard. Several were already busy munching on a bunch of yew bush branches we'd hacked off and put in a pile. It was a feast!

Not the best shot. It was shot at dusk and I lightened it a bit.

Oh, the best, which I did NOT get on camera as I was too enthralled watching. Two deer were comign down the lawn and stopped. One paused, turned and put up its tail (whitetail) and they stared at the ground. Then I saw it - the red fox! It was quickly scamping in between the two deer, like running a gauntlet, and then ran to the side of the house and disappeared into the bushes. The deer just sorta went 'eh' and then joined the rest devouring the remainder of the yew bushes. And that fox is just stunningly gorgeous.

Now if they could only prune the TOPS of the existing bushes, instead of denuding the sides....

Now if I can just catch an alligator on film (not they're around here, but considering people are keeping chimps as pets, who knows what might escape)!

That's a good place for pruning shears. ;)P

You probably washed them in the bathroom and then left them there. Also nice photo!

Probably. better than having to search the entire yard - again!

This makes me miss Michigan living =]

We used to see all kinds of Deer, foxes and coyotes when we lived in Fowlerville .

Now I am lucky if I see a squirrel *sniffles*

I like wildlife, although the squirrels decimate the birdfeeder food in about five minutes...

Those squirrels are raskaly creatures lol.

they're adorable, even if destructive...

I know =]
I used to love sitting on the porch watching them scamper around the yard and getting into things lol.

Aw. We used to get more deer around my development when it was first built, but now that there are more houses around here, the deer are fewer and farther between. I recall the days when a whole bunch of them would run together. I saw a lone one recently and it seemed so lost and out of place.

I enjoy your pictures and videos very much. Thanks for sharing. :)

Our area is still developed, but there's a park nearby so the deer come from that. Biggest trouble with deer is damage to shrubber and 'deer berries' all over the yard!

Maybe one day I'll get a reall good shot of the fox!

Yew is not a good shrub to leave lying around. I don't know about deer, but it will kill cows. We nearly lost two cows who got into yew clips. Ours were much greener than yours so maybe another kind of yew, but it can cause yewtexas poisoning.

And the pruners with the the blowdryer...umm..planning to get a trim?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, deer LOVE yew bushes here. May be a different variety and nope, it doesn't kill 'em. They've been eating everybody's yew shrubs for decades.

Well, the blowdryer and shears were just clumped together next to comb and brush. Must have stuck 'em there when I was in the bathroom and just forgot. They're all black so they blend together....

I am so jealous of your animal pics. You must live in a very tranquil place.

So... you've never seen my Zombie Bambi pictures?? Not so tranquil!

Oooh, not jealous AT ALL!! (Okay, maybe a little bit! *g*)

I love the deer's nonchalence regarding the fox! LOL!

Thanks for sharing! I had a nice surprise today - for he first time ever I saw siskins in my garden, eating sunflower hearts from the seedfeeder! Very happy girly here!! I just hope they come back for more!

Yeah, the fox looked a bit nervous as it ran between the deer!

Oh, cute birds! And nice website on British birds!
