Wow, can’t believe Borders is truly gone now, or will be rather shortly. Despite having two Barnes & Nobles with relatively not-hideous driving distance, I have barely gone to them. I just loved Borders a lot more. They gave me coupons for discounts without making me pay to get a card to get a discount. I suspect that the bulk of my book purchases will be at library book sales (cuz, well, they’re cheap and I can find some gems) and online. I went to B&N today, looking for a blank book. I’d picked up a pretty one at Borders but B&N’s selection is well, sorry to say, dull. I did get an email from Borders that my Borders points are being transferred over to the I-still-can’t-figure-out WOW points. My brain hurts.

First, the forecast was for a few inches, then 5-9", then one TV station went 9-14" (!?!) then I gave up and went to bed. We got about 17". GAH!!!

This is the big snowpile at one section of the driveway.

Yeah, you shovel enough snow and you want to play with it ;) I could build an army of Daleks if I had the energy to dig through all the snow! See the car at left (Honda Accord). You can see how big the pile is!

I decided to take a look around a local river, since it was pretty low a couple weeks ago, but after tropical depression Nicole came through, I wanted to see if there were any changes.

Instead, I found the mushrooms on steroids!

This is HUGE mushroom next to my foot.

I went to our local 9/11 ceremony at the fire station today. I have missed most of them, as they're doing the work week and I can't always get time off, but did attend last year and did this year. I took a few photos at the ceremony, but mostly listened...

While I'm grateful we didn't get nailed, we could have used the rain. Darn. Here are some photos. We had hot and humid and icky weather, so Earl did at least clear out the bad air. Here's a local reservoir.

And a dragonfly, which turned out pretty good considering I shot it at high noon and the little insect couldn't sit still for more than five seconds.

Couldn’t swing going to the Chicago Stargate convention with Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Jason Momoa, Brian J. Smith and more (darn darn darn) but… Kate Hewlett’s play, The Swearing Jar, had just opened. It was a LOT cheaper to grab the train, take a subway, hike down and see the play, which was a very affordable $18.

But first, since we were in the city, we hit Forbidden Planet, a comic book/scifi store. It’s more comic oriented, but I always take a look because it’s just a few minutes away from the huge The Strand bookstore. And lo and behold, I found a Dalek money bank! Cool, and it was light, so I bought it and it filled up the backpack. Fortunately I didn’t find any books at the Strand (considering the stack at home from recent library book sales, that’s good).

Took these tonight. Skies opened up when I drove up the driveway, so had to sit there for ten minute while it poured, hailed, and wind wept around. Luckily, we did not lose power. Phew!

Adorable pictorial.

A mallard duck nests on a ledge beneath the corporate offices of Sterling Savings Bank in Spokane, Washington. There has been a nesting duck in the same place for at least three years, although bank employees think that this particular one has only nested there for two years

and, a photo I've tripped over on several news sites. An owl cools off.

The heat index is 100, and everything is cooking, so the cat, of course, LOVES it. He just sucks up heat. Notice how well he he positioned himself on the How to Train Your Dragon fleece blanket, which I leave on the bed for him during the day, just to make him happy.

I snerched this photo from a big photospread at http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/06/afghanistan_june_2010.html in a spread on Afghanistan. It's incredible that such beauty can be found in a country that has so many problems. You can view the full size at link above. It's the 15th photo.

Stargate Atlantis Action Figure Theater number., er, well, al new one!

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Action Figure Theater, but a weird idea, lack of sleep, and presto, I did one! In fact, this was plastered on my door as a door decoration at MediaWest*Con 30, and it won for Best Technical, which is probably because I cut out a lot of little ballons for dialogue ;) But I was happy to hear people laughing at the door.

Once again, chockfull of graphics. And, in one box you’ll see the name Meijers. This was done specifically for MW*C attendees. Meijers is a Midwestern type Walmart store – you can basically anything there. It’s a mecca for MW*C fans upon arrival.

Early this morning, the snow was still on the trees. The snow just sparkled from the dusting we got last night. Alas, then the sun came out in full and the snow started dropping off the trees in fat gobs (except on the trees we'd like the snow to really off - it's not, of course).

Snow on the big maple, while in foreground, it clings tenaciously to the yew bush.

David Hewlett is pointing his finger at me. Hey, David, didn't anybody teach you it's not polite to point? Oh wait, wait, you're trying to get our attention (see below).

Yes, there are more photos. This one was unceremoniusly snerched from http://watcher652.livejournal.com/29365.html, who did a lovely picspam of both David Nykl and David Hewlett from a recent convention in Paris, France. This is just a taste of what lies at the link above. So if you're a fan of either actor, or just like pretty pictures, head on over ot the link above, and don't forget to leave comments and thanks :)

Contains swearing, so cover little ears. And segments without Joe – yes, your ears can get blistered. Joe appears at 4.43 mark and the 7.45 mark (note that the HD version froze at the 8.40 mark, but there was no Joe past that point)

When we last left Joe, he had eluded Jace and Todd, who are anxious to retrieve the precious suit. Meanwhile, Joe is impressing a lady with the suit.

Took some snowy winter photos.

First up, the dog. You know, the one that I called the money pit in my previous entry. As you can see, he is now possessed and stubborn and did NOT want to leave the freezing cold snow to go inside, despite having a nice large patch of exposed skin on his backside. He's a hardy little fella.

Ah, the amateur videographer is back, with a five second short of a really big hawk (red-tail?) sitting in tree, flying from one tree to another. I shot it with a zoom lens on the digital camera, hand-held, but since it's five seconds, you shouldn't need any Dramamine ;)

And below the cut, some more pictures, of frozen ponds and ... my brand new pet jellyfish!! :)

The tree in my room. Notice the Dalek (not decorated, but at least he's there), next to a glass penguin (in front of Dalek) and if you squint, the cute glass pig. At right, you can barely make out the new Godzilla Xmas tree ornament.

You've been warned. Came across photos of these Emperor Tamarin monkey siblings who were orphaned shortly after birth (their mom died of cancer). They're adorable and I hope they do well. They're at the Denver Zoo.

Yes, I'm watching a reality show, cuz there's nothing new on, I'm paying bills, and decided to see Lou Diamond Phillips on NBC's "I'm a Celebrity.. Get Me Out of Here!" I only hope he wins as he seems to be the most level-headed of the crew. I must admit, if I were there, Heidi and Spencer would be shoved into a lake filled with hungry reptiles. Argh. I'm blind! Good lord, did Stephen Baldwin fall asleep and get attacked by graffiti artists? Anyway, alas, they can't do away with celebrities, although I sure as heck can't see this show doing any good for the aforementioned idiots (Heidi and Spencer). Hm, perhaps having done several campy/crappy flicks for SciFi Channel has steeled LDP or this nonsense. Plus he looks like he's the only one in pretty decent shape.

Meanwhile, I'm still working on my Stargate Atlantis Fan Fic Recommendations page, cuz I was woefully behind, by, er, oh, all of 2009. Plus i printed out some and said "gotta read!" And I've discovered a bunch of bookmarks on two different PCs, plus links/self-contained stories off the SGAHC Yahoo group - and if you're a whumper, you had definitely better be on that list!  But that will take forever but I want to at least get it in better shape before sending it off. And then figure out how to send it since it's now a 30+ page WORD document.

Lastly, you must visit this site - http://opentravel.com/blogs/ten-most-unreal-landscapes-on-earth/ - which has very cool photos. I love the 'gate to hell' - I mean, looking at these photos makes me think about writing SGA whump fanfic!

Saw Mr Hewlett last week. He's doing well. Also in Los Angeles. Getting off an exploding planet is easy, getting out of LA - not so much.

I got home from work, finally found the pruning shears I'd lost (looked everywhere outside and they turned up in the bathroom with the hair dryer, of all places!).

Anyway, when i looked out the window I spied nine (9!) deer in the side yard. Several were already busy munching on a bunch of yew bush branches we'd hacked off and put in a pile. It was a feast!

Well, I heard Alaska was warmer than here (Northeast U.S.) today! Anyway, a shot I took at an intersection (through the windshield, hence th blue tone), waiting for the incredibly long light to change. Just a small collection of pigeons gathering together for warmth. I've noticed they like to perch en masse on particular light poles on the highway. Hawks like to sit on some too!
