EXCERPT:

Tasmania's capital is one of the stars of a new feature film being shot in the city.

'Arctic Blast' stars U-S actor Michael Shanks, as he leads a battle to save the world from a series of huge blasts of ice fog that are causing deadly snap-freezing.

The film's Australian and Canadian producers started filming on Monday, and will shoot for a total of 18 days.

One of the executive producers, Pierre David, says when he films in Canada, local cities are often represented as being in the U-S, but that is not the case with 'Arctic Blast'.

"This script is written for Hobart. It says Hobart, it has Hobart, we don't change the licence plate, we don't change anything, we have emergency vehicles from Hobart, we have police vehicles from Hobart.

.....

It is scheduled for worldwide release in the latter half of 2010.

oh sigh...wonder how the poor man feels about being called a U-S actor? I guess in Tasmania, they just figure US, Canada, it's all one continent...

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, probably! Just like some folks here in the US go "Oh, England" when they mean the entire UK! ;)

I work for one of the TV/radio networks here and told them to correct it on our stories, so ours should have that he's Canadian.

you are so incredibly sweet! you do realize that I was poking at US (I'm US) as well...notorious for thinking "it's all one (whatever)" and I am sure most Americans haven't a clue where you are (it's so sad!)

I do hope it takes off - [livejournal.com profile] magnavox_23 says it is beautiful there and gorgeous scenery is hard to find.

[identity profile] alyssa22.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Tasmania's gorgeous. Apparently. I've never been there. I live in Victoria, which is just across Bass Strait on the mainland.

It's only an hour away by plane, but I've tended to go to warmer places, when travelling around Australia!

[identity profile] alyssa22.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
On the subject of the US, there was an interview I saw once with Guy Pearce, around the time he did Memento, I think, where he was asked how he managed with the American accent. He told the interviewer most Americans assume you're American anyway, so if you get the accent halfway right, they believe it!

ummm, I don't know how to say this so I'm just gonna say it, m'kay?

I looked up Arctic Blast to see if there were any other press releases or whatever? And you know how you said you can't hear that w/o thinking of chewing gum? I'm about to change that for you...

Seriously, every time I hear the title, I think of chewing gum...

Seriously, every time I hear the title, I start thinking 'House payment? Kids education fund? Something?'.

But a job's a job no matter how strange they are.

Or as Colin Cunningham put it: 'At the end of they day, no matter who you just spent the last 16 hours in front of the camera with, you still have to come home and fix the garbage disposal.'

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Hey, I'm glad to see him doing movies! Wonder if it will end up on SyFy? I loved Black Sheep (made in New Zealand) so am intrigued by films made in that region. Gorgeous scenery.

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I keep thinking of chewing gum too...

However, I know he has what - 3 sproglets (2 w/ Lexa) & he was trying to do some house flipping until the housing market collapsed and he was left holding the mortgage on a couple of properties. (I seem to remember him being in court over them a year or two ago...)

And as for Zats_Clear definition... I'm gonna flee and pretend I didn't follow that link, because uhm, yeah, my brain hurts now. :-p

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, brain hurts, too ;)

Yeah, I remember the house flipping thing. Both him and Chris Judge got foreclosed or something on rental properties, something like that.

I'd like to point out, I was just doing an innocent search of the name of the movie, when that came up! I'd never heard the term before in my life!

obviously, I am behind on watching Rescue Me and Californication

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Well, haven't watched either of those two shows either ;) Although I must admit, it's not like it's a term I need to know, although now watching the movie will make me laugh hysterically unless they c hange the title ;)

I'm a Victorian but Tasmania has some beautiful scenery, weird population, but, the scenery, just great :D

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Most stuff I've seen filmed in New Zealand and Australia has had beautiful countryside...

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Totally different to Victoria though. Tassie is all green and Mountains and Vic is dry and brown. But of course we are the best!

if he's come to tasmania to fight the snap freezing fogs, shouldn't it be ANTarctic blast?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, it's science FICTIOn ;)
