Ah, nice to see the Stargate gang getting back to work, although I STILL want Stargate Atlantis revived, with cast intact, but with new producers who know how to write. Anyway, here's the poster for Michael Shanks' new series, Saving Hope.

Michael Shanks

Okay, he's in the background, but at least he's there. Sorta reminds me a reverse of sorts of CBS's A Gifted Man, with Patrick Wilson, which will probably get axed because I watch it. I'm the kiss of death, I swear... Oh, big thx to @stargatezone on Twitter for posting it.

THE Tasmanian film Arctic Blast will have its premiere at the fifth Canadian Film Festival in Sydney in August. The sci-fi action thriller, directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith, is an Aussie-Canadian co-production starring Canadian Michael Shanks (Stargate SG-1) and Australia's Indiana Evans, Alexandra Davies and Robert Mammone. The eco-thriller, about a solar eclipse blasting super-chilled air towards the Earth, is Trenchard-Smith's first Australian film in more than a decade. "I am proud to have made a movie with a climatologist as the hero," he says. "Shooting in Tasmania with a crew of young enthusiasts and fellow old lags was a blast, an Arctic blast in fact." Sydney's Canadian Film Festival runs from August 2 to 8.

Well, just went through a month's worth of LJ entries, of course, to discover I missed about a week. Darn. Hopefully I had read all that. Anyway, lots of cute squirrel photos, a cat playing in a bathtub IN THE WATER (adorable) and Stargate Atlantis fanfiction to bookmark. Boy, do I need to buy some spare time on eBay so I can read it all!

Came across http://community.livejournal.com/gate_pages/58913.html in which it says No Stargate Atlantis audiobooks for third set.  Yes, they're set before Continuum. Also, there are no Atlantis stories. Daniel and Vala are toplining the entire set, so it'll be solely SG-1 this time out.

And don't forget, these are all full cast audios, not dramatised readings. The cast is small, admittedly, but they'll be more dialogue driven than they have been up to now.

I'd read earlier that Michael Shanks and Claudia Black were doing six, but was too busy to go back to look, and well, no Stargate Atlantis. Darn darn darn. I mean I really do like Shanks' books, but I want SGA stories too. I wonder if it was a financial decision (not enuf SGA sales?) or if the writers just didn't do SGA? Anyway, I will miss them. I was hoping they could somehow SOMEHOW get Joe Flanigan or David Hewlett to do one.

*** For some unfathomable reason I am watching the AWFUL movie Land of the Lost on cable. It sucks beyond belief.  How could anybody take what had been a decent Saturday morning live action show from decades ago and turn it into this... drivel.

Been busy doing programming for MediaWest*Con. It's basically done. A bunch of typing/organizing to do, but that's on the weekend. I hope.

Gardening may just be one tomato plant this year. Don't think I'll have time to do a real garden what with all the rest of the outside work to do. I need to win Powerball...

I gotta get a Daniel icon... anyway... news on the new film!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/20162

Oscar-nominated writer/director Julien Magnat's feature length debut Faces in the Crowd began principal photography in and around Winnipeg, Canada this past weekend. Joining the previously announced Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil, The Fourth Kind) and Julian McMahon ("Nip/Tuck", Fantastic Four) are Michael Shanks ("Stargate", "24"), David Atrakchi (Transporter 3), Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break") and Marianne Faithful. The concept behind this thriller is pretty cool as Jovovich stars as a woman who has a severe case of face-blindess -- and there's "someone" after her. You can find the full plot details below.

"Magnat's script chronicles the account of elementary school teacher Anna Marchant (Milla Jovovich) who is attacked by a serial killer known only as Tearjerk Jack and survives, but is left to struggle with a neurological disorder commonly referred to as face-blindness (prosopagnosia).

Only able to recognize voices she fights to adapt to her diagnosis and the ever-changing faces of those around her. Working with Detective Kerrest (Julian McMahon) Anna race's to identify her attacker. All the while the killer is closing in determined to eliminate this potential witness. Only Anna has seen his face – and he could be anyone. "

The film is a Saskatchewan-Manitoba interprovincial Canada-France co-production with key technical and creative personnel from both provinces. Principal photography will take place in Manitoba and post-production including all computer generated visual effects will be completed in Saskatchewan.

Executive producer Nicolas Chartier of Voltage Pictures will handle international sales. Their first in-house production, THE HURT LOCKER, received six Academy Award's in 2010.

Principal photography will wrap June 13, 2010.

Here's today's article...

SciFiwire: Why Michael Shanks thinks Stargate SG-1 is history

It looks like Stargate SG-1 may finally be dead, at least according to star Michael Shanks, who played Dr. Daniel Jackson on the series, which ran for 10 seasons and spurred two DVD movies in 2008 and two Syfy spinoff series.

"Given the amount of time lag that's gone on between us doing the movies, I suspect that we might be very far away from, if ever, doing another DVD movie. This might be the closing of the book on that particular [chapter of the] franchise," said Shanks, whom we caught up with while he was promoting his guest-starring role as Hawkman in The CW's two-hour film Smallville: Absolute Justice.

.....................

"Never say never. It's always a possibility. But I think everybody's moving on to a certain point, and with the new show doing well, everybody's focusing their attention on that. The SG-1 idea is somewhat on the back burner, which is a little bit unfortunate, because I think one more story would have been a great way to bring Rick (Richard Dean Anderson) back in and really go there. But you know, business is business."

......

"The reason why I did that was because it timed in perfectly, because pilot season is underway. I'm reading for Danno in Hawaii Five-O," he said with a laugh. "I don't know what to say about that. I haven't read the script yet, so I'm going, 'Really?' I'll have to wait and see.'"

If cast, Shanks would be appearing with Lost's Daniel Dae Kim, who'll be portraying Detective Chin Ho Kelly, a role played in the original series by Kam Fong, the Hollywood Reporter announced today.

While he doesn't have any information about how they will reboot the iconic police procedural, which ran on CBS from 1968 to 1980 and spurred the famous catch phrase, "Book 'em, Danno," Shanks knows one thing. "I'm sure there's some updates, because I don't think we could pull off that kind of brow furrowing with a straight face in this day and age. I'll tell you one thing, to go to Hawaii to shoot a series would be a dream come true, that's for certain. Not a bad gig there. ... I don't feel too bad for the people on Lost. Oh, you're on Lost. Poor guys. Yeah. Boo-hoo. Go back to your cabana and have another mojito [laughs]."

Exclusive interview with Michael Shanks re Smallville

http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEoLGpotC7jPrx

What can fans of the Justice Society Of America, and Hawkman in general, expect from this two-hour Smallville movie event?

Michael Shanks: Wow! Could you find a more general question? (Laughs) I could talk for hours about what their expectations should be. They are going to get a lot of Hawkman's backstory. There is an appearance by nearly every single member of the Justice Society. Some more than others, obviously. Fans can expect true-to-form characterizations. What Geoff Johns wrote for Hawkman, and what I intended to do with him, was stay loyal to the comic book personality of Carter Hall. There are some interesting twists and turns when it comes to Kent Nelson and Star Girl. The first hour is cool like the other side of the pillow. It sucks you in because of all the intriguing elements. Then the episode picks up with more action as it rolls along. There will certainly be some Smallville elements with Lois and Clark thrown in. In terms of the JSA, there is a lot of backstory. There is a lot of angst and pathos. There is some good resolution at the end as well. We will be seeing a few of our all-time favorite characters in action. Which is a lot of fun.

CW to air 2-hour Justice Society-themed SMALLVILLE movie

Excerpt: Entertainment Weekly has learned that the CW are planning to air the upcoming Justice Society-heavy Smallville two-parter (“Society” and “Legends) as a two hour movie event on January 29th 2010. Penned by comic bookwriter Geoff Johns, the television movie will feature the arrival of Justice Society members Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Doctor Fate (Brent Stait), Stargirl (Britt Irvin), and the return of Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter. The storyline apparently involves Clark crossing paths with the Justice Society characters, who have come out of retirement to meet up with an old foe.

An official Australia-Canada co-production, “Arctic Blast” stars Michael Shanks (“Stargate”, "Burn Notice," “Desperate Escape”) and is being helmed by legendary director Brian Trenchard-Smith, making his first down under production in over 10 years.

Written by Jason Bourque, “Arctic Blast” tells the chilling story of a mega ice fog caused by a rip in the earth’s upper atmosphere over the South Pole. The killer fog grows in size and fury and moves northward from the polar wastes destroying everything in its path.

EXCERPT:

Tasmania's capital is one of the stars of a new feature film being shot in the city.

'Arctic Blast' stars U-S actor Michael Shanks, as he leads a battle to save the world from a series of huge blasts of ice fog that are causing deadly snap-freezing.

The film's Australian and Canadian producers started filming on Monday, and will shoot for a total of 18 days.

One of the executive producers, Pierre David, says when he films in Canada, local cities are often represented as being in the U-S, but that is not the case with 'Arctic Blast'.

"This script is written for Hobart. It says Hobart, it has Hobart, we don't change the licence plate, we don't change anything, we have emergency vehicles from Hobart, we have police vehicles from Hobart.

.....

It is scheduled for worldwide release in the latter half of 2010.

Hmm, now this 'stuntcasting' would draw in a LOT of SG1 fans....

SciFi Wire posted today... MICHAEL SHANKS HAS A SURPRISE ABOUT STARGATE UNIVERSE

"I talked to [executive producer] Brad Wright a couple of weeks ago, and he asked me if I'd be interested in doing a cameo in the Universe pilot, and I of course said I would be," Shanks said in an exclusive interview. "And there's a great deal of talk about [it]. ... They've got a script going and everything like that."

Shanks added that he hasn't put Dr. Jackson away completely yet. "There will be a Stargate SG-1 movie [for DVD], probably filmed around the same time the [Stargate] Atlantis movie is filmed this coming summer," he added. "So that's all going to be going on."

Shanks played Jackson on and off for a decade in Stargate SG-1, as well as on the spinoff series Stargate Atlantis and in the made-for-DVD movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum.

The next SG-1 movie, "as far as I know, is pretty Rick-heavy [as in Richard Dean Anderson], pretty O'Neill [Anderson]-heavy," Shanks said. "So I don't know much more than that, but I will most definitely be involved in it."  ....

Shanks explained that it's the ideal situation to be able to stay in the Stargate game without being tied to it as an everyday job. "It's great," he said. "After 10 years and getting not picked up or canceled or whatever you want to call it, it feels almost a little bit odd, because you're so used to the process. But going away from it, it's great to be able to explore other opportunities. When you're doing a show for nine months a year, you always want to shake it up and do other things, but you don't have the time. Now, it's the best of both worlds. We can get on with it and have other experiences and still revisit the franchise and the great family environment that we have with the cast and crew. 'The further adventures of ...' is a nice treat."

Wow, this a sucky thing to read!

In an article on foreclosures....

November 27, 2008

http://blog.macleans.ca/2008/11/27/could-it-happen-here/?ref=patrick.net

Christopher Judge is accustomed to turning heads in Vancouver. During the decade-long run of the cult hit TV show Stargate SG-1, which was filmed in and around the city, Judge starred as the muscle-bound alien Teal’c. But when the six-foot-three actor appeared in B.C. Supreme Court in mid-November, amid raised eyebrows from the galley, it was for a role he’d desperately hoped to avoid. Judge, who owns three luxury homes in B.C., faces foreclosure. He’d flown up from Los Angeles the night before to ask the court for time to get a new appraisal done on one of his properties, a West Vancouver home with stunning views of the city that he’d bought for $2 million in 2006. At the same time, one of Judge’s former co-stars on the show, Michael Shanks, is facing foreclosure on another sprawling West Vancouver home purchased in January for $4 million. “I was always told the safest place for your money is in the real estate market because it would never drop by 50 per cent, but that’s exactly what’s happened,” a congenial Judge said outside the court. “I watched the L.A. housing market fall and now I’m having to watch the B.C. market go down, too.”

http://www.movieweb.com/tv/news/59/27159.php

excerpt from March 8th article:

....just got off the phone with actor Michael Shanks, who starred in the long-running sci-fi series Stargate SG-1, about his new Stargate straight-to-DVD movie, Stargate: The Ark of Truth. During that interview, the actor confirmed he has a new project called Rage of Angels that's been greenlit by MGM, and that his Stargate SG-1 co-star Christopher Judge (Teal'c) wrote the pilot and will star.

I see you've written and directed a couple of episodes of Stargate SG-1 in the past. Are you planning on doing anymore writing or directing for TV or film somewhere down the line?

Michael Shanks: Well, Chris Judge and I have a project that's going forward with MGM called Reach of Angels, that Chris wrote the pilot script for. If it goes to series, which is our belief and wish, we'll both be writing for that as well as acting in it. Whether or not I decide to direct is another whole ball of wax, but we definitely want to create the mythology of that program if it goes to series. So, definitely it's something I plan on doing in the future, if not for that project then for something else.

Is this another sci-fi project?

Michael Shanks: I would call it more in the fantasy realm. It's basically about the angel Gabriel who comes to Earth to start a war with Lucifer for control and... well, we'll just leave it at that. Much shennanigans ensue (Laughs).
