And Hurricane Earl came... and fizzled out

While I'm grateful we didn't get nailed, we could have used the rain. Darn. Here are some photos. We had hot and humid and icky weather, so Earl did at least clear out the bad air. Here's a local reservoir.

And a dragonfly, which turned out pretty good considering I shot it at high noon and the little insect couldn't sit still for more than five seconds.

dragonfly or its ilk

Went to a local (well, semi-local) beach to see what kind of waves there would be. Not too bad, but wow, was it windy!!

And here's a video, where you really hear the windy whipping by... Looks pretty good on HD (720 choice):

And that's it

Thats kinda funny, we got a bit of run off rain from Hurricane Hermine through here today.. actually got some rain which we desperatly needed but also high winds and thunder which we didnt need. Took a few tree's down throughout town but nothing major..

Weather's sorta whacky everywhere. But hurricanes, too much rain better than the fires they have in colorado!

[identity profile] luveskane.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
yes that is for sure, would much rather have the rain then a fire!!

Thank goodness you had no damage from Earl but I understand about need for rain. I live in Kentucky and many days have passed since we received more than a few drops of rain. I noticed on Sunday, the top branches of a huge dogwood tree in my parents back yard were withered. If this continues, we are in for a horrible fire season this Fall. I think we need a rain dance.

Fabulous pictures, I love the last one, the colors are beautiful.

Take care, hope you get a some rain!

Yeah, reservoirs are getting low, which isn't good. Lawn is mostly green, due to uh, weeds ;)

If i could send you some of our rain i would! It's another grey miserable day today with rain promised just in time for softball... typical.

Lovely pictures! There's something about sunsets over the sea, so pretty. :)

Thanks. Yeah, love sunsets over water. Gorgeous...

some seriously spooky shots there. Not game to listen to the video at 8.06pm as it could still get windy here during the night. I don't sleep well when it is windy - being a wooden house and all 0-0

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hope you did okay with your winds!

you live in such a georgeous place, (i am sure it seems very mundane to you as you live there all the time:))

I am trying to get pictures of the drgon flies aroudn my work but my camera is not good enough and certainly not fast enough to catch them before they are off again.. You cannot sneek up on the things at all..

I like the picture of the rolling wave (beach number 1) you have caught so much energy in the wave

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, if only these pictures were my back yard! ;) And yes, dragonflies never stay put, as soon as you find them in the lens, poof, they fly off. :)

Stunning photos - looks beautiful despite the hurricane bit ;)

Cool pics - I particularly love the beach ones! The vid's interesting too - I love waves (have a few vids like this myself, maybe I should get around to sharing one of them?)!

Oh yes, wave videos are fun :) That's what YouTube is for :)

Thanks, wasnt so bad, but a couple of days ago the winds reached 190kms; At least it wasnt in Christchurch.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-09-10 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was totally astounded when I heard about Christchurch!

Glad Earl wasn't the monster storm everyone thought it would be *whew*

The news folk went wild with it. I watched and went 'eh, whatever happens, happens'. We prepared as best we could.

Such pretty pictures! I especially like the first one of the beach!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-09-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the beach was beautiful. Even better not packed full of people ;) Wish I had one in my backyard...

Don't we all. That would be awesome.
