Invasion of the fungi!

I decided to take a look around a local river, since it was pretty low a couple weeks ago, but after tropical depression Nicole came through, I wanted to see if there were any changes.

Instead, I found the mushrooms on steroids!

This is HUGE mushroom next to my foot.

The big fungi and its relative (in foreground). Invasion of the fungi! Run, run for your lives!

And just for reference... Trader Joe's bag is 12.5" x 15", so, whoa, a lot of mushroom. I'm sure it's not healthy to eat though...

A batch of weird very fuzzy looking mushrooms!

A local pond, but shot on way too low a shutter speed, so it fuzzed up, but it's got a warped artistic appeal. The bottom half if the reflection off the water.

The river, which overflowed its banks.

Lastly, my favorite. Two leaves, caught on twigs sticking out of wafer, while water swirls around them.

And that's it :)

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gross.
Every time I think of fungus I think of what I had growing on
the top of my foot years ago...............
It would not heal. It wept all the time.
Finally my father took a culture and it turned out to be
some sort of fungus..........not Athlete's foot
It was weird as it grew in a perfect circle size of a dime.

It's all in the perspective...never had a fungus growing on my foot like [livejournal.com profile] sharpes_hussy...so I think the photos are stunning. Love the fuzzy white ones, I took mycology in college and I don't remember that species.

Such beautiful scenery. You live in such a gorgeous area.

Mushrooms! I think mushrooms are cool :D I love it when they grow in a way that they look like little tea-tables fairies might use. Man, I miss livigin near a forest :/

Those are some awesome shots.

I really like the fuzzy looking mushrooms and the slightly blurry water shot

I'd need to see more of the big mushroom to give you an ID (looking at the gills underneath is a big key). I think the fuzzy ones are a slime mold.

Eek! (I have a major giant-fungus squick. One of the most horrifying events of my life was a walk through a lovely forested park, where at every turn I was confronted with the specter of giant gross fungi of all sorts of colors on every surface -- on trees, on the ground, on logs, above me, below me, at eye level -- just lurking and glistening and fuzzing and grossing me out without mercy. Ick!)

Still, great pix.

Heyyy....those are puffballs! Some people slice em up, fry em, and eat em. Not me. Ick.

I have always been fascinated by wild mushrooms and fungi, but I don't think I've ever seen any as huge as those; they're totally awesome! And I love that last shot :o)

Nice giant puffball shots! The fuzzy ones are a smaller cousin of the big puffballs.
