Kate Hewlett and Stargate Universe

GW has a brief snippet of an interview with Kate Hewlett, and I'm afraid to say that fan reaction of "Stargate: 90210" may not be that farfetched...

At the the article, she said ""I have a bunch of friends who have auditioned for the show," she said, "and they seem to be going very young. I think it's the new, hip, Stargate Jr. I think that I don't probably fit into that but I would love to. I was secretly hoping they'd be like, 'We need to bring someone over. Who could it be?'" I mean, Kate is 32, so if she's over-the-hill.... Sigh... For one thing, it sucks that we won't see Rodney and Jeanie bicker anymore.

I'm still 'meh' about SGU due to the way the studio, etc. handled axing SGA and then announcing their shiny new toy, SGU, plus the writers, who seem to have lost their focus on SGA, are all excited about SGU. Plus, frankly, I like the 'old folk' on SGA just fine. I just hope they all find new jobs soon (and I hope, hope, HOPE that Joe Flanigan lands on the NICS spinoff. Just a dream I'd like to see come true as NCIS is a hoot and I'm sure the spinoff will be fun too).

There's an NCIS spin-off? I did not know this.

My hope (dream) for Joe Flanigan is that David can cast him on Starcrossed (in whatever incarnation it evolves into).

Yeah, from what I've seen in the press, theyr'e planning an NCIS spinoff. Not sure if it's a 100% done deal, but oh, to get Joe on that! And why not give him David, Rachel and Jason as his staff ;) (Hey, I can dream!)

[identity profile] alyssa22.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I think Torri would have a better chance of being on an NCIS spin-off since she's already been on and apparently gets along with them all really well.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
that would be very cool too!

Based on past experience, I'm going what with Kate says over what Mallozzi and Co. says. For the most part, the actors have always been far more accurate in explaining things to come than those producers. So in response to her statement, I'm back to believing that SGU really IS with a 'younger audience'. (Never believed Mallozzi anyways.)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Mallozzi likes to spin. The actors are more realistic, so when they say it's a younger cast (especially since they know people auditioning), well...

If he likes to spin so much, I have some suggestions of what he can spin on. [innocent look]

OMG THIS! Hee hee hee!!!

We could start a list. *g*

It would be awesome to see Joe Flanigan on the NCIS spinoff.

Yup.

I trust the actors a whole lot more than I do TPTB and I think Kate is a very sharp cookie. The actors seem to "get" fans a lot more and understand their own characters and how fans might perceive them.

I think Flanigan would work well in the NCIS spinoff, if and when it does come to fruition. He played a fed on the short-lived "Women's Murder Club" but the role didn't get a good resolution due to the timing of the writer's strike and JF having to return to filming SGA.

Torri has already appeared in an NCIS episode, and I heard she'll appear again but I'm not sure when.

I'm sad the cast we've come to love has to separate, yet I'm happy we'll be able to follow them in other projects.

While we might not see Rodney and Jeanie bicker onscreen again, I'm pretty sure David and Kate will be playing bickering characters again in one of the multiple projects he's been working on. I was giggling over the commentary for A Dog's Breakfast, with their mother saying something about they weren't acting, that's just them.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I remember Joe F's Women's Murder Club. Had potential. and I loved Torri's character on NCIS. Sure hope she does reappear!

Yeah, ADB was a hoot. Imagine what he could do with a bigger budget!

I think Hewlett's gotten a good springboard for things from his time on SGA. I think The Suits realize he's got a lot of sway with fans.

He'll probably have some of his former co-stars guest starring in his upcoming projects, as he did in ADB. I know he's mentioned wanting Christopher Judge in another movie.

Then there's the Judge and Shanks project Rage of Angels, which is supposed to start filming sometime next year. I know they've already got Jay Acovone on the list of Stargate actors who'll be in the show, and I'm sure there'll be more. It'll be like a Stargate Actor Reunion. Could be fun, especially if they play very different roles than we're used to.

I never believe anything the producers say anymore because they are all idiots. No, really. They are.

It kind of makes me happy to see the actors feeling the same way about this new SG as we do. It makes me feel justified in my (low) opinion of the show.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
they just spin everything. after reading mallozzi's blog on how wonderful "Whispers" was gonna be, I sat there and went 'huh?' Total ripoff of every horror cliche out there. Had a few good lines here and there, but otherwise, very predictable.

[identity profile] mackenziesmomma.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, now I *KNOW* I'm living under a rock. I hadn't even heard about the NCIS spinoff(but then again I've basically gone into denial that I was ever a fan of it).

Its interesting to see what Kate had to say about SGU as I've been trying to not form an opinion on it one way or the other.

It will be going on a very strict '3 and out' policy that if it can't sell me within 3 eps of the Pilot then its done and gone from my schedule(unless they get some eye candy i like, lol).

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even give BSG that long. I couldn't get through the movies with their awful camerawork.

I do believe the cast, with the exception of the 'name' star, will all be in their 20s. Hence, cheaper actors, and a draw to a younger crowd.

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've just about stopped reading Mallozzi's blog. He flatters himself a bit tooo much for my liking. And it's nothing we should be surprised about. We've all thought all along that it's going to be Stargate 90210. I'm just worried the SGA movie will suck with Mallozzie cowriting it :(

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I worry about the SGA movie, that it won't be anything 'more' as a movie shoudl be, but just a two-hour episode that doesn't move anything along.

[identity profile] margec01.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it will probably move along their "ship" plot. They're all so enamored of Keller. Malozzi spent paragraphs defending their (over)use of her the other day. I only read him anymore to see when he changes the foot in his mouth.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
alas, i fear you're right.

[identity profile] anjak-j.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to keep an open mind about SGU but it got off to a bad start with me when the suggestion was made that anyone who'd been watching the franchise since it began is 'over the hill'. I'm 27 - hardly old by any standards. If they want to make a show to appeal to the under-25 demo - fine, whatever - but their attitude that the show and the fans who've followed them for over a decade don't matter just stinks.

Joe F and everyone else are better off out of this mess. It's not even like the writers can be bothered to write decently for the show any more.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
but they truly believe that the fans from SG1 and SGA will flock to SGU.

But only the young ones! No one over 25, and preferably no chicks either!

Who knows, maybe they'll finally get the audience they want, and not the one they have.

Love Kate Hewlett! She is such a sweet person! And she is great actress, I wish nothing but success! I love her nickname for the new show...Stargate Jr. :-)

On NCIS spinoff, I saw this on EW today

http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/12/exclusive-fresh.html

The are looking for late 20's-40's actors. So Joe has a chance!!!

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Can always hope!

[identity profile] kodiak-bear.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Stargate Jr? *groan*

I've heard more and more chatter about the NCIs spin-off! I'm hoping Joe F. will get *something* for next fall. I can't imagine him not getting a role soon (he might take a year off or whatever) just because he's got it all for a leading man.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely. I'd love for him to get a network series!
