wraithfodder: (McKay-I'm dead)
Yes, such a droll topic, but the wry sibling banter between David and Kate Hewlett makes up for it, and wow, cool Dalek shirt. Looks nice and shiny!

wraithfodder: (McKay needs hug)
Ah, the Hewlett siblings are fiddling around with a YouTube web series.  To see the weirdness, just click on the picture below :)

JOE FLANIGAN
It’s just days away (8) till Joe’s SyFy flick Ferocious Planet (aka The Other Side) airs at 9pm on SyFy. You can watch the latest teaser ad at
http://video.syfy.com/movies_events/syfy_saturday/promos_trailers_8/ferocious-planet--syfy-original-movie/v1316616 And heck, you can even pre-order this gem of a movie at Amazon.com at http://amzn.to/ferociousplanet for $17.99. It will be released June 7th. Fans are hoping he might resurface on twitter when the movie airs next Saturday.

Good Day for It, the drama he made last summer, is coming out on DVD, but only in Australia (note: those DVDs not playable in Region 1 (USA) players). http://www.borders.com.au/video/good-day-for-it/24309881/  has details and the
Synopsis: A man forced to abandon his wife and daughter years earlier must risk his life to settle an old score and reunite his family. Forced to leave town after betraying Lyle Tyrus the ruthless leader of a rural crime gang Luke Cain has stayed away for 15 years to protect his wife and daughter from Lyle's vengeance. But his daughter Emily nurses a burning desire to see her father and Luke finally agrees to meet her at a cafe on the outskirts of town. But fate intervenes when Lyle's brother Norman and his killing crew chance by the cafe. They leave without incident but Luke knows it is just a matter of time before they report to Lyle and return to exact their revenge. Luke is forced to make a difficult and potentially life threatening decision. Should he leave his daughter behind again or wait for his worst nightmare to walk straight through the door only time will tell if today really is a Good day For It !  - It’s also at the Philadelphia Cinefest 2011 (April 7-14). Details at http://www.phillycinefest.org/film-details.cfm?id=9723

Change of Plans, the family movie he made for Fox TV along with Brooke White, is available for order at the Walmart site. Alas, it doesn’t appear to be for sale in stores, at least not yet. You can pre-order for around $12 at http://www.walmart.com/ip/15778093 . Alas, it will not be released until April 26th.

He did an online interview at http://pmc-mag.com/2011/03/joe-flanigan/ back in early March. And he’s going to be at Dragoncon (http://www.dragoncon.org/dc_guests_list.php) whereas I – unless I win powerball – am not. Boo hoo.

UPDATE!  Listen to "JOE FLANIGAN" hosted by BuzzWorthy Radio on 4/7/2011 2:30 PM  (from @BuzzWorthyRadio via [livejournal.com profile] tavabean )

Posted this on twitter, but anyway…

A nice selection of photos from Kate Hewlett’s new play, "THE SWEARING JAR," which begins in NYC in limited run on August 14th. You can find ticket info and more at http://www.fringenyc.org/basic_page.php?ltr=S#TheSwe. I saw one of her plays in NYC last year and it was great! A friend and I have plans to go in the week after next.

Jason Momoa has pulled out of the Chicago Creation con in August.  http://www.creationent.com/cal/sgchi.htm They posted “August 11, 2010: We have been advised by Jason Momoa's convention rep that due to work commitments he is unfortunately unable to make his contracted appearance with us at the convention. We wish Jason well and hope to have him join us the next time around. Those with separate Jason autograph tickets and/or photo ops can use these tickets as "cash" towards additional tickets, photo ops or Creation merchandise at the convention. Kindly bring your unused PDF tickets to registration (when there is no line) for a credit voucher. THANKS!

I have to say that at the moment, I’m not sure what Jason is doing that he can’t appear. Oh well, not like I’m there. But a virtual ‘darn’ for those who are going who will miss him, but it is better that the actors get steady work …

For those who don’t know, David Nykl was also interviewed at Martin Firrell’s site at http://www.martinfirrell.com/davidnykl/ . And Ben Browder, and of course, Joe Flanigan. Now if they can add David Hewlett to the mix….

Joe Flanigan is still tweeting, one here, one there. Alas, the production folk on "The Other Side" have put down the kabash on ‘location’ photos that actors have put up. If it goes up on twitter, poof, it doesn’t last long, unless of course it has nothing to do with being onset, I guess. Hopefully when the movie premieres they’ll put up photos. In looking at tweets by the junior actors on the movie, there's about a week or so left of filming.

Paul McGillion’s 13-minute short film, "A Fine Young Man," was selected as one of 40 films to be featured in the Short Cuts Canada Lineup this year. “The film is set in 1962, in the middle of the Cold War. With the fear of nuclear attack a constant worry, the United States is trying to beat Russia to the punch. As the short teaser puts it "(t)hey've been looking for someone like Pete. Someone honest, upstanding and true. Someone they can put their faith in." But Pete may not be as squeaky clean as one might think.”  More at http://www.sciencefantasyuniverse.com/2010/08/12/paul-mcgillion-film-at-tiff/

And alas, we still have to suck David Nykl, Kavan Smith, Paul McGillion and Torri Higginson to the dark side of Twitter. One day… <evil cackle>

Oh, and don’t forget to tune into Friday’s (August 13th) EUREKA on SyFy .Kavan Smith now has the role of Deputy Andy, the robotic law enforcement officer.

Last but not least, David Hewlett is busy star gazing (Perseids meteor shower), snarking about @JoeFlanigan on twitter ("Oh, I'm getting all the @joeflanigan I need thank you very much ;-)   He also said that he will be filming an episode of Stargate Universe in September, but not sure when it will air. and.... "Definitely DragonCon photo ops in the works... maybe even with a little sister along for the ride too!" so maybe Kate Hewlett will be down there. (Curse that lotto ticket that didn't win me even one dollar!)

NOTE: Just found out from @Tanith0709 on Twitter that Robert Picardo is in same SGU episode, the 15th, called "Seizure."

And if you didn't know it, Rainbow Sun Francks tweets as @Snywhip. :)

wraithfodder: (Default)

Let's see, first off, yes, Kate Hewlett has a guest role on the CTVC/CBS drama, FLASHPOINT! She tweeted today:

@katehewlett I get to be an uptight fiancee, a bitchy pregnant woman and a wounded mom all in one day. Acting rocks.

and the co-creator of Flashpoint tweeted today as well:

@Flashpoint_TV Great read through today. Terrific guest cast including @katehewlett

Now if CBS can get off their duff and give us Flashpoint again down here in the States. I love that show!!

----------------------

Stonehenge Apocalypse will premiere in June on SyFy. You go "What? Another dreadful CGI monster flick?" Well, yes, but Torri Higginson is in it (despite the lack of her name in the press releases). For those who must know the plot: When the giant stones of Stonehenge begin to move and cataclysms occur all over the earth, only a fringe radio talk show host who’s an expert in UFOlogy figures out that the ancient monument is really alien technology. Yeah, sounds... just like the title *cough* ;)

----------------------

Meanwhile, some nice press on Jason Momoa and the Conan the Barbarian movie (besides the 'he's awful pretty to be Conan" using an old Baywatch picture). http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GulfCoastAvengers/news/?a=16478 says ....  Patrice Louinet who has studied, worked on and edited the works of Conan creator Robert E. Howard for decades, was able to take a look at some Conan set pictures belonging to Fredrik Malmberg Conan's producer.

Here is what he had to say (In translated text).....

"Got to see Fredrik Malmberg, who showed me a few pics - pre CGI - of Jason Momoa as Conan. Despite this, these pics were enough to convince me a bit more that Momoa is an excellent Conan, as far as his looks is concerned. He is very close to the character as described by Howard: he is hairy, dark, scarred and muscular yet lithe, devoid of the body-builder physique syndrome. Really impressive. More, Momoa has taken the Howard books with him, often reading a few passages for himself before shooting to get into his character."

---------------------------------

And drat, no news on Joe Flanigan. Gah, I want him to get a new series, or a really great movie (cuz at this rate, I not holding out at all for any SG1 or SGA movies). David Hewlett finished his directorial debut of some unnamed scifi movie for SyFy which has 'evil snow monkeys' but that could just as easily be a pet name. Filmed in snowy Bulgaria, although he could have stayed in the States and filmed cheaper what with all the snow we've had here. Nothing new on Rachel Luttrell. I wish she'd put out a CD...

Loves Italy. Favorite place is Florence. Used to speak Italian and took another beginner’s class
.

Been to Munich once and would love to go back there, as well as Barcelona.

Her only vice is drinking ;) She loves beer.

“Okay I have two vices!” The other is coffee.

She auditioned twice for Flashpoint. First role, she was too young and second she didn’t get. But she’ll keep trying.

Her charity is the Toronto Humane Society. She got one of her two cats there. And she likes Farm Sanctuary, which rescues farm animals. She got Martha at the Humane Society. It was around Halloween and she’s a black cat. Rufus is “challenging and adorable and obese,” and she found him on Petfinders.com.

When asked about David she said “I have no brother” (in jest). Apparently they rarely connect on the phone but connect via email, etc. In fact, he’s back in the States now and tomorrow she is flying off to Italy.

A chance to see my brother. She really prefers doing the cons with him as it’s more natural. A way to meet hundreds of new people who are supportive and lovely. The Q&As are quite fun.

Acting or writing? They’re different and fulfill different things for her. At the moment, she feels more like a writer. She’s working on a short film based loosely on Humans Anonymous, and a feature film treatment. She loves writing.

She didn’t want to admit she always wanted to be an actor as it’s not a real job. She went back and forth between being a teacher and actor but when at university, decided to see how acting went.

She’s got some great acting coaches and has taken auditioning classes, just little tricks. She said it was “so valuable”.

She’d love to visit New Zealand. And Australia. “That would be a good convention to go to.”

“Mars was the most professional actor I’ve ever worked with,” said Kate, of the dog star of “A Dog’s Breakfast.” A sweet dog.

How did she go about breaking into the acting/writing? Got an agent and tried acting for a couple years, couldn’t get in the door, then spent three very intense years training at a school, and then doors began to open. David never did. He’s “much more of a go-getter”. She’d write, then produced her work at the Fringe Festival and the right people saw it and it was produced in NYC. Best thing to do is generate your own material and get it out there.

Did voice work. It’s been really good to her. Just did a cartoon. “was a blast”. She’s done a series of TV commercials in an Irish accent. She plays a lot of teenagers as she can sound younger.

It came out that David has signed for another convention.

Was working with David challenging? Being directed by David was challenging and thinks he’s going to be a great director, but it’s tough being directed by a family member. “He’d make the sound of a truck backing up when I walked past the camera.” On Stargate, it was a different experience he was so laid-back.

About the movie “The Last New Year”. Shot in 2008? A lot of improve about a group of friend’s have a New Year’s project. She did a short film “The Day I Thought I Died”, directed by a sound editor in a group of shorts directed by non-directors. The CBC pilot, “Fancy” and at the end of December she begins rehearsal for a musical in Toronto. Has to play the trumpet as well! “The Assassin”.

Not a sports fan, when someone asked about hockey. She went curling for the first time for the “Fancy” shoot. Has a newfound respect for the sport as she kept falling over.

Blogging from Italy? Can’t blog until she surprises a friend in London, who hopefully didn’t listen to this interview!

What about doing Sanctuary? Not really, but would love to work with Martin Wood. “He was such a great director to work with.” And she’s in Toronto and it’s filmed in Sanctuary.

Who has she looked up in her life? A role model? This is going to sound so cheesy. “I’d have to say that my brother is one of my biggest role models that I look up to. No matter how much success he achieves he has a certain about him and a certain humility about him and he’s also kind…. He’s looked after his little sisters pretty well. I’d probably say him, even if he bugs me sometimes.”

How did parents handle having two actors in the family? She had an easier time than David, since he was the first one to go into it. Her father wasn’t crazy about it but her mother thought he was born to do that so was supportive now. Dad is very supportive now. Could never miss any school for auditions. Her sister Jenny was model/actress for a few years (not now), and other sister was an actress in theater when she was in high school and university but is now doing other things.

She was only going to chat for 20 minutes but stayed an hour.

CBC weighs 'Fancy' comedy pilot
Half-hour comedy centers on complicated kids TV host
By Etan Vlessing

Oct 15, 2009, 06:22 PM ET

TORONTO – The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC) is weighing "Fancy," a half-hour comedy pilot about a complicated kids TV host from Vancouver-based indie producer Gang of Two and Crescent Entertainment, as a possible 2010 series pick-up.

The comedy pilot, written by Hopkins and starring Kate Hewlett, Pat McKenna and Jana Peck, follows the host of a kids TV show, Maureen Fancy (Hewlett), who is perky and happy on camera, and anything but off camera as she fends off endless complications in her personal life.

A CBC spokesman said the public broadcaster has just received the pilot, and will decide on an additional 12-episode order early in the new year.

Oh, I sure hope it happens!!

Read on Kate Hewlett's twitter...
Just read a Flashpoint script and now trying not to cry in public! Sad & well-written. Would love to be on Flashpoint...with V Mars's dad!

Very cool! I really hope Kate can be on Flashpoint as that show is doing very well in two countries (dont' know about the rest of the world yet) and would be wonderful exposure for her, plus I think she'd be great on it. :)
wraithfodder: (Jeannie-Sheppard)
GW has a brief snippet of an interview with Kate Hewlett, and I'm afraid to say that fan reaction of "Stargate: 90210" may not be that farfetched...

At the the article, she said ""I have a bunch of friends who have auditioned for the show," she said, "and they seem to be going very young. I think it's the new, hip, Stargate Jr. I think that I don't probably fit into that but I would love to. I was secretly hoping they'd be like, 'We need to bring someone over. Who could it be?'" I mean, Kate is 32, so if she's over-the-hill.... Sigh... For one thing, it sucks that we won't see Rodney and Jeanie bicker anymore.

I'm still 'meh' about SGU due to the way the studio, etc. handled axing SGA and then announcing their shiny new toy, SGU, plus the writers, who seem to have lost their focus on SGA, are all excited about SGU. Plus, frankly, I like the 'old folk' on SGA just fine. I just hope they all find new jobs soon (and I hope, hope, HOPE that Joe Flanigan lands on the NICS spinoff. Just a dream I'd like to see come true as NCIS is a hoot and I'm sure the spinoff will be fun too).

I'm just doing a bit of stumping for

http://community.livejournal.com/stargate_women/117722.html

a website that has, for years, auctioned off celebrity-autographed teddy bears for breast cancer research.

In this batch, you can find David Hewlett, Kate Hewlett, Torri Higginson, Jewel Staite, Rainbow Sun Francks, and others.

So, give up lattes for a few weeks and buy a bear!

Public service announcement over ;)

wraithfodder: (Jeannie-Sheppard)

‘MartoufLeTokra’ interviewed Kate Hewlett recently and here’s a snippet:

Q: What about the season five of Stargate Atlantis, have you been approached for a return on the show ? If you could choose, for you what would be the perfect scenario for your character to come back ?

Kate: Nothing is official yet, but it looks like I will be coming back to do an episode in Season Five (thank goodness!) My perfect scenario would be to come back as a regular, but I think that's wishful thinking on my part! I would love to get a chance to do some more action-based stuff, as well as some more of the fantastic banter between Meredith and Jeannie. Comedy is my favorite thing to act, so it would be great to get an opportunity to do some more of that. There are also lots of characters I would like to work with: Teyla, Keller, Beckett, etc. And I'd love to work with Erin Chambers if she ever comes back! She's nice. And that girl can stage fight!

But as for David Nykl, his scifi movie is on Sci-Fi tonight at 9:00 PM ET. He plays a soldier who runs afoul of a PTERODACTYL (yes, the name of the movie). Needless to say, very few people survive being in a movie on this channel, so you'll see precisely how he gets, er, 'downsized' ; *cough*

By Kenneth Jones

The annual program is free and open to the public. All readings begin at 8 PM, with the exception of the Dec. 2 reading, which begins at 2:30 PM. Readings are in the Near Studio.

The schedule features works-in-progress by 2007 units members Salvatore Antonio, Kate Hewlett, Edwige Jean-Pierre, John Lazarus, Joseph Jomo Pierre, Erin Shields and Jonathan Garfinkel, a member of the 2006 unit.

Each reading is directed by Richard Rose, artistic director of Tarragon Theatre.

Grover, Christopher Stanton, Carly Street. "Carey and Simon are the perfect
couple. With romance, laughter and a baby on the way, their marriage seems

greatest lie her husband ever told."

Here's my account of my trip into New York City to see Kate Hewlett in her play, Humans Anonymous.

wraithfodder: (Jeannie-Sheppard)
Kate Hewlett, little sister to Stargate Atlantis' David Hewlett, will be in New York City from November 1-18 performing in her play, HUMANS ANONYMOUS.

For those going, or thinking of going, here are some details.

wraithfodder: (Teyla - my eyes)

My brain hurts!!

Talk about a wealth of Stargate Atlantis stuff that is impossible to see. First, Paul McGillion is slated to talk on Saturday, November 3rd Creation Con in Seacacus, NJ. Torri Higginson signed on for UFC in Springfield, MA. Alas, they scheduled her to speak on the SAME day Paul is talking. For fans who could do both cons, it is now impossible to see both unless you can transport yourself between the States. Adding to the mix is the latest information on Kate Hewlett, which she just posted on her blog -  http://www.loft-in-translation.blogspot.com/

excerpt:

“From November 1 - November 18 of this year (still 2007) my play Humans Anonymous (a brand new version) will be produced at Theatre 54 in New York City by the Bridge Theatre Company! Cool! … None of this is official yet (sshhhhhh) but Creation Entertainment and I are planning a special performance of the play (followed by a Q&A with the cast and...uh...playwright) for Stargate fans, particularly those attending the Secaucus Con! It will be on Sunday, November 4th at 8pm, so book your tickets for that special performance online. The theatre only seats sixty so it will sell out fast! Tickets won't go on sale until Thursday or Friday of this week at theatermania.com”

While it’s possible to see the play during the rest of the time, a Q&A is a one-time thing if they do it. Gah, my brain hurts, as I want to see all three and know it’s impossible. Curses for Creation constantly putting its con on the same weekend as a previously established con.

Is anybody doing any of these events?

UPDATE: Creation just posted the following for their New Jersey event (http://www.creationent.com/cal/sgny.htm)

Sunday, November 4
11 am to 6 pm Registration/Vendors Room/ Programing Theatre Opens featuring daytime appearances by MICHAEL SHANKS, CLIFF SIMON and KATE HEWLETT

wraithfodder: (Shep-stealth)

Geez, major power outage in San Francisco took out LiveJournal, Craiglist, NetFlix, etc. although it seems LJ was the last to get back up (possibly because the others are more business oriented? but wait, I shelled out cold hard cash for my LJ - I want it back!) Oh wait, it is. But I was typing this up while it wasn't...

Stargate Atlantis stuff....

Ah, David Hewlett has outlined his schedule for Comic-Con at his blog
http://www.adogsbreakfastmovie.com/content/view/137/35/

he's even doing ADB signings. Waah! Wanna go! Blast, darn, curses.  Meanwhile, Kate (his sister) has joined the Twitter craze at http://twitter.com/katehewlett as well as updating her own blog, twittering on about Twitter at http://loft-in-translation.blogspot.com/2007/07/im-officially-twit-ohhhh-dear.html

Oooh....http://www.syfyportal.com/news423940.html breaks down the 2007 SyFy Genre Awards and said "He may not be MacGyver, but Joe Flanigan has almost become the Richard Dean Anderson of "Stargate: Atlantis." Making an impression in the midst of some very entertaining characters is hard, but Flanigan still stands out as a leading man, and will soon lead us into the fourth season of that show." And Joe Mallozzi reported on his blog that Joe Flanigan will be appearing at Comic-Con, so that means, Joe, David Hewlett, and Amanda Tapping from SGA will be there to represent the show.

Sat through all of EUREKA, which I do enjoy, but no joy on the SGA ad. Darn. But, David Nykl was in it, playing a mad scientist of sort (mad only because he has experiments in his basement). In fact, he's such a nice guy he condoned his wife's affair! Wish he'd had a bigger role, but I'll have to wait for the scifi flick he did that will air on SciFi Channel one of these years...

Oh, purchased Stargate SG-1 season 10 on DVD today. Nice set. They had an insert which featured ARK OF TRUTH, the complete SG1 series out on DVD in October, and yes!, promo stuff for A DOG' S BREAKFAST too! :)

One of her best experiences at being at the Burbank con? : The first Q&A (for A Dog's Breakfast) was a bit scary, but after I slapped David, I felt much better. Ha, spoken like a true sibling! ;)

And that picture she took of the palm trees is just sooo cool. Made me think of a wormhole at first!
