Stargate Atlantis movie news, sorta...

SciFi had an article on "New Stargate movies finally ready to begin shooting?" which is more or less, well, not news... http://scifiwire.com/2009/09/amanda-tapping-new-starga.php

EXCERPT: Amanda Tapping says that a new Stargate SG-1 movie could begin production later this year, as soon as the first season of Syfy's upcoming SGU: Stargate Universe wraps. A new straight-to-DVD movie was announced a while back.

"As far as I know, we may start in late fall or early winter this year," Tapping said in an exclusive interview. "And I will slip back into Sam Carter very nicely; I'm looking forward to it.
...........
What about a new Stargate Atlantis movie? "Atlantis is still being talked about for this year," [Martin] Wood said. "Right now, I'm so far removed from it, but they'll let me know, and I'm happy to do it."

REST of article at link above; mostly just supposition and stuff I could swear I've already read in another article just recently. While it says nothing about a green light on the SGA movie (and I'll believe the SG1 movie is being made when it's listed in Variety), I guess at least it keeps the name in the public (sorta) eye.

NOTE: Article was originally titled "New Stargate SG-1 movie in works" and then mysteriously changed to "New Stargate movies finally read to begin shooting?" Hmm....

So there is $$$$$ for SGU and $$$$$ for a SG1 film but.............

SG movies

I would be thrilled if an SGA movie gets green-lighted and actually made, but first...oh, look ANOTHER SG-1 movie moves ahead. How nice for them! Is there a little favoritism going on or what? - Diane

WANT

I'll believe it when I see it though.

Okay, I'll keep my spark of hope. Although the though that Martin Wood may direct makes me smile.

YES there is HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and my personal feeling is it is coming from JM
To do a SGA film means Sheppard and that means JF
and JM has a real vendetta against him..........
Frankly if they made a SGA sans Sheppard, I would NOT
be interested, even as much as I like Teyla and Ronon.....
As I said before
$$$$$ for SGU and $$$$$ for yet another SG1 film but......

"and JM has a real vendetta against him.........."

What do you mean?

[identity profile] gatedialer.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I must be the only one that really doesn't want another SG1 movie until we get the first SGA movie out. Don't get me wrong, I want another SG1 movie but would rather have the SGA movie first.

JM has said words to the effect that JF is really a nasty person in public (apparently because he asked JM to quit taking pics of everyone between shots?)

But, JF has been nothing but approachable and open about the lack of progress on the SGA movie & the PTBs.

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
You aren't the only one. :-p

You're not the only one. SG-1 has had two movies already. When does Atlantis get to have a turn? Argh. *headdesk*

Apparently things began very cordial between Joe and JM, but then as time progressed,
they began to deteriorate until at the end it was very hard for Joe.
I heard Joe had some ideas about his character, who he created. If it had not been for Joe, Sheppard would have been a character on paper only.........
AND he was a sort of spokesperson when there was some problem between cast and powers that be............
I also still remember that dufus who crowed about how much she appreciated JM's warning about Joe.
It was in JM's 'if you don't think I am wonderful, just ask me' blog
I normally do not read blogs e.g. JM's but I receive Google Alerts for JF.......and it was part of that.
I personally think it is why the SGA films are going nowhere
All this baloney about the economy does not wash given the fact they seem to have $$$$ for SGU and additional SG1 films.
I realize I am defensive when it comes to Joe, but I like him and love his character and the rest of the SGA cast which they rolled over with a tank.
AND they did same IMO to SGA fans, something that is unconscionable also.

I'd much rather have a SGA move than another SG1 movie.
At least give us one!

[identity profile] ckc44.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
No your not the only one, I like SG1 an I would happly support it but not first, coz its had 2 movies already an SGA has been just left hanging by the idiot PTB.

If they do a 3rd SG1 before Atlantis, I will be hopping mad, an honestly I don’t think I'd even buy, because it would be so wrong. Sadly though that actually what I think they will do, so it will be yet another smack in the mouth to SGA fans an the actors. Sometimes I really think that Joe F an the guys are so much better off out of it, than having to deal with that lot, an don’t even get me started on what I think of JMs blog an the sycophants that crow all over him “ yuck”.

I know for a fact going forward that I personally will never again support anything JM, Wright/Cooper & cronnies do.

Any other projects un SGA related (an I would much prefer fresh blood for that, a SGA movie could only benefit if these weren’t involved), I'll be polite an call them the creative team do, I will just dismiss sight unseen because I think these guys are just horrible after the way the whole axing of SGA for there new shinny toy

[identity profile] iamrighthere.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course the article's title changed. The headline didn't reflect the material below it, so the head was changed.

I'm dismayed that an SGA movie may not come to pass this year, next year or ever. I've heard that it's the economy, or that the sound stages are being used for SGU, or the actors couldn't all commit at the same time. I hope that SGU is good because some people have come to rely on their Gate fixes to keep them perky.

I know the relation between Joe Flanigan and JM doesn't seem so good. JM ignoring systematically Joe on his blog.
There are some news JF's pics on JM's blog for one month.

I quote you.
"I also still remember that dufus who crowed about how much she appreciated JM's warning about Joe.
It was in JM's 'if you don't think I am wonderful, just ask me' blog
I normally do not read blogs e.g. JM's but I receive Google Alerts for JF.......and it was part of that."

But when did you get this snarky comments from JM?

For sure if Joe flanigan will not take part in the movie this will not represent any interest for me and they (mean TPTB) would jeopardize the success.
Sadly I don't see how these 2 men could work again together again. In addition, I've never heard Joe Flanigan said bad comments on JM.
I know the producers weren't receptive at the actors suggestions and Joe Flanigan as lead actor defended his pals and their interest and the show. and at the final all of this became hard for Joe.
If their difference of opinion has begun coz personal pics posted on JM's blog I think JM is a bit petty.
Joe Flanigan is family man, very protective on his privacy so I can understand.
If you watch some convention's vids it's obvious it exists great friendships between the cast and they are very supportive to Joe.
So who is right?
JM seems to have so very unprofessional behavior.

[identity profile] domjohn.livejournal.com 2009-09-12 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
For reminding, AT said the same one year ago.
And yes I would prefer to get SGA movie first. I think there are the fan base and audience out there.

[identity profile] domjohn.livejournal.com 2009-09-12 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
All of these reasons are wrong. I heard it was coz the lack of tha fans, the crisis, the DVD sales turn down. I've never heard about commitment of the actors. The main cast want the movie but they don't get any idea about the real reason of the cancellation. After one year I can't blame them to move on and think to their career.
when we heard as cancellation reason was to get a great opportunity to move one to a big format.
SGU would be great? WOW
read futon critic. I'm afraid not.

[identity profile] black-raven135.livejournal.com 2009-09-12 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
IMO there are some people in the film biz who are very small
They will go to any length to prove a point, including destroying someone or even an entire show.
My cousin told me about it years ago when he was designing sets for Universal........Jerry
said film politics are just unbelievable.... what lengths some will go to to enhance the image they have of themselves.
All you have to do is take a look at JM's blog.......it is ALL about'if you don't think I am wonderful, just ask me'.
I will NEVER believe it was just $$$ because if it were, then why were they able to fund SGU and now additional SG1 films?????
Finally,
I understand if there was some disagreement between the SGA actors and the higher echelon, Joe was there to represent them.
When I was in the Navy I often defended my division against attacks from other division officers and was there to represent my division in issues of great concern to them. It is not easy doing that believe me, so I side with JF in his need to represent when he saw something that was just not right.
I imagine he also had the affront to make some suggestions regarding the developing storyline in SGA given he is a writer. He created Sheppard that is represented on SGA......Until he did, Sheppard was merely a generic character on 'paper'.

I think at this rate it would be better not to publish articles, since they're either erroneous in some part, or just pure speculation (It's hard to do an article with "maybe" "might" "could").

Re: SG movies

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
The 'small' attitude exists in business everywhere, alas :( I think unless we were a fly on the wall, we'll never know how things were on the set. As for JM's blog, I rarely look at it. I don't want spoilers on SGu, don't care for restaurant reviews, but will check out photos once a week, if I remember, or to drop a question to an actor, but otherwise, I'd rather visit CNN's site ;)

I think at this point in time, if someone could point toward an URL which contains any quotes, that would settle things. I don't read JM's blog enough to have seen anything.

Re: SG movies

[identity profile] black-raven135.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I visited his blog once because it was part of a Joe Flanigan Google Alert which I receive quite often..
Until then, I had no idea it existed.
One time was enough.......particularly because of what I read
from that woman gushing about how much she appreciated his warning about Joe and how ******glad***** she was that she had NOT signed up to spend any time with JF at a con, but it was the rest too....smacking of someone who was altogether awed by his own presence.

'small' attitude exists in business everywhere

[identity profile] black-raven135.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
yes it does, but right now we are speaking of how it has affected something I like very much and someone who I like very much.

Re: SG movies

[identity profile] domjohn.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly it exists everywhere. Some people who take or keep for themselves the credit the others earned.
I don't work in the movie or TV industry but I think the better way to increase the quality is to use skills of everyone so listening them. Acting like someone who throws him weight around is rarely efficient. It's bad management. Using the skills of everyone on the set would have been good management.
I wonder if all of this would not have influenced the cancellation decision and it was the case once again it would be the consequences of a bad management. So JM would have taken this risk and jeopardized the show only by revenge. If it's the case it would be sadder wasting a success. Plus he lost more coz now he is not anymore executive producers and despite of this he is the best.
You're right Joe Flanigan and the others brought life to their characters without them Sheppard would be remained a generic character. So without actors the characters would not exist anymore so why these producers and writers would not listen them. IMO, actors know better than writers who are their character and how they can evolve.
I hope there will be a better and close collaboration between them if the movie got a chance to be made. For that it would be necessary JM needs to question himself and try to explain himself with Joe Flanigan. Without this I don't see how the movie could be made. Overcoming the ego. I wonder who is inflated ego. I think I know the answer.
I went through his blog and I noticed he eludes each time all questions about Joe or left snarky answers about him. I tried to post there to know why he's never answered question concerning JF or why he's never made Q/A with him. My posts have been systematically removed. And sometime someone asked him about Joe F. this gave him the opportunity to launch snarky remarks or he ignored his lead actor speaking of the others.
Look at the vid JM made "good bye Atlantis" he didn't say any words about him.
If the movie will make I think the relationships must change between them coz Joe F. is very respected by the others members of the cast.
And pettiness is the aspect of the small and weak people. And I don't think Joe F. belongs to this category.

JM = Mr. Pompous Wanna-be Food Critic, Joe Mallozzi - one of the men who decided to kill off Weir because they "wanted to shake things up." (Meaning, Torri Higginson wanted to have a more involved role for Elizabeth and heaven forbid that she should want that... a woman wanting that? :-p)
