Stargate Atlantis movie snippet from interview

Snippet from Brad Wright / Robert C Cooper interview:

http://gateworld.net/interviews/an_expanding_universe.shtml

excerpt:

GW: Great. The Atlantis movie then: Is that a little bit more pushed back? Is it looking at maybe 2010?

BW: No, Paul [Mullie] and Joe [Mallozzi] are writing the script, and it's just a question of which one we can proceed with first. There are issues, as there always are. But there have been a few changes in the way the world works right now, especially in terms of DVD sales.

REST AT ILNK ABOVE

They're tap dancing again. I hate corporate speak. You dig through that interview and what you get is that the sure thing SG1 movie is not a sure thing and they haven't signed RDA. The script for SGA maybe done but they don't know if they're doing it this year and part of that reasoning, I'd bet the farm on this, is that the financing from all parties is not a sure thing because 'someone' wants to see if these guys can make SGU work. In other words, I have the sneaking suspicion that it isn't just the fans that are on the receiving side of the 'hard sell' from BW and RC concerning SGU. If they stumble badly with SGU then I'm not sure that they're going to be trusted with more money etc for SGA or possible even the SG1 movie. Just MHO but it sure sounds like spin to me and there shouldn't be any need for that yet, should there?

Yup. I'm not getting why people say the SG1 movie is a done deal. Until it's greenlit and contracts signed, it's just 'almost'. I think they're spinning cuz it's not a 100% done deal and they want to appease the fans.

I'm not going to read the interview, but just have to say, out of all the 'changes in the world', regarding the financial situation, I'd think 'DVD sales' are pretty far down the list of importance.

I agree with cimmerdeux. Sounds like they're treading on thin ice and have put all their eggs in the shaky basket of SGU. If not supporting SGU puts the final nail in the coffin for SGA...well, I guess that's the sacrifice I'm ready to make. Especially given who's writing the movie. :(

Great. Now I have to pick cracker crumbs out of the keyboard cuz I opened up this thread and saw your *bwahahahaha* icon ;)

LOL! Just when I think everyone has already seen it...

Sorry?

I found the interview very interesting. Those guys are well spoken; probably why they have their jobs. I'm not sure why fans react so negatively to uncertainty in Stargate; I mean, that's real life, isn't it? I fully buy that MGM has a bunch of bean counters doing sales projections and freaking out in this market. Too bad they weren't at the Vancouver con watching fans spend hundreds or thousands of $ they don't have!

Well, they have put their foot in their mouths a couple times, so, fans tend to remember. While nothing is certain, I wish folks (fan sites, alike) wouldn't say "SG1 movie all set!" when in reality it isn't. But then even newspapers don't post all the facts anymore :(

I have mixed emotions about it.........
I would love to see more of the quality that they provided in
the pilot but really feel that as the series went on the writing
got more and more sloppy.
I don't have much confidence if Mallozzi is doing any of it
and particularly because he seems to have such a problem with
Flangian.

I'm really hoping the SGA movie will have the quality/budget of "Rising" and not waste time stuck on Earth.

I just hope they don't get stuck on McKeller.
:P

My hope is that, like in many movies, the happy couple is broken up before the movie begins ;)

I was going to use my picture of the Shrine in Melbourne because it's ANZAC Day but I will NOT polute my picture in the same post as that weak willed #$@%$ Brad Wright. He just can't tell the truth can he.
