Stargate Atlantis actors on Stargate Universe??

Well, this should get fandom stirred up...

or http://bit.ly/cQp9oP

Showing off the vast fabric of the Stargate universe, cast members from both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis will make appearances in the second season of SGU.

That’s the word from our friends at SCI FI PI, the Web site for Australia’s SCI FI broadcast network, which was in Vancouver last week for an international press junket on the show’s set.

My opinion? It doesn't surprise me that they're using Stargate SG-1 characters. Daniel Jackson is smarter than most of the folks on Destiny so could always a help. Carter? I think the scientist in her would like to see the Destiny so she'd go... Teal'c? There's absolutely no reason for him to go, and he'd probably need therapy if he ended in Eli's body ;) Jack makes the most sense (everybody reporting back to him). Mitchell? He' s a pilot, so, er, why go?

As for Atlantis... and I see this, quite honestly, as a way to draw back all the Atlantis fans who quit the franchise (if you comment, please refrain from bad language, thx) . Let's see, Sheppard? Pilot, why go? McKay? Been through body swap, would probably rather eat a lemon than do it again. Teyla, no need, Ronon (same scenario as Teal'c) ;). Zelenka? Hmm...

But of course lots of folks could stay Earth-side as nobody is going to lose the dumb stones anytime soon. My guess is the guest star will be like 2-3 minutes max, although they'll promote the heck out of it. Call me cycnical, but I've watched SyFy too long ;)

The official word was originally that SGA characters wouldn't be showing up on SGU because the events of the movie precluded them from doing so. So yes, I think it is probably a ratings grab, but if people get to see some of their old favourites make it back to the screen one last time then hopefully it will turn out to be a good thing for everyone, whatever the reason for it. Or something. :)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
We'll have to wait and see what context the characters appear in... I'm hoping it's more than 2 minutes...

[identity profile] shansgrl.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Both Hewlett and Flanigan said they would guest if they were asked at Minnesota Creation Con this month. I believe it's a huge attempt to grab ratings and fans IMO. I know Atlantis did it, but it wasn't as often as SGU is doing, again making me think it's all a publicity stunt to gain viewer.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I do think that. It's a business move, pure and simple. I see the Stargates as a pizza. Different toppings for each show, and some folks like all the toppings, and others, not so much.

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
My gut says McKay. He's the easiest to put in SGU and TPTB love him. Didn't David tweet he had a meeting at Bridge studios?

Whatever the case it's ratings grab pure and simple.

[identity profile] dcdiva.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah he did, and I think he'd have the most reason to be there given his technological expertise. Uck.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I just can't see McKay doing a body swap. Ever. Again ;)

[identity profile] mercury973.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably gonna be McKay. And they will probably humiliate him. And I will kick in my tv.

A job is a job, but I'm terrified of this.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
We'll have to wait and see. No news. Wonder if anything will come out at the next con?

I've been saying since the start that they need Sam or Rodney, preferably both, to make a trip out there. (The people on Destiny are also in desperate need of an actual doctor, but no one except TJ ever seem to worry about that.) Since they have the stones, they should have their top experts visit the ship, which they haven't done.

David Hewlett seems very likely to me. I feel like they kept Daniel fairly in character in his brief appearances on the show, but Jack has not been acting like Jack; in fact, he acted most like Jack in a deleted scene somebody posted somewhere, where he blasted Rush for dragging civilians onto this ship instead of getting them home! I don't want them to mess with Rodney's character, so I'm hoping they'll keep his appearance brief.

Or maybe they'll just have that gate tech out. What was his name again? Chuck? I bet he's cheap!

[identity profile] viggofest.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG--I'm so glad someone else said this about Jack. I kept looking at this guy and thinking "where's the real Jack?" (Or actually, "Did you EAT the real Jack?") but still. I know nothing about SG-1, so I didn't feel I could really comment on his character but it just rang so odd. Thank you for confirming my impression!

I've griped ad naseum about an actual physician, and they finally got one on board briefly.

Yeah, okay, I'm not the only one who goes "hmm, pod Jack?"

[identity profile] vecturist.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Somehow I can't see certain people swallowing their pride enough to ask Joe, DH is a much more likely candidate.

I still won't watch the ep, but I'm sure some kind soul will put together a clip and put it on youtube.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, yeah, I'm sure it'll end up on YouTube. I hadn't even thought of that.

[identity profile] the-scary-kitty.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
If they do bring any SGA characters on, it'll be McKay. He's the only character who actually makes sense from a story standpoint, TPTB love McKay and love Hewlett... slam dunk. And even at that, it'll be nothing more than a pathetic casting stunt just like other casting stunts pulled on Atlantis that crashed and burned.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Or Zelenka? I suppose it would depend on whose available (well, they all sorta are) but McKay or someone scientific makes more sense than the others.

[identity profile] nakedwesley.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to figure out a scenario where they would only need McKay once, for a short time. (Even harder to do, since I don't watch SGU.) I mean, either he's going to come up with a solution, or...well, why wouldn't he keep trying? It just doesn't make sense. If it's just a cameo then it's stupid stunt casting.

What about Keller? They do need a 'real' doctor. I might actually watch* a scene were she tries to nag Rush into becoming a kinder, gentler psychopath.

*Okay, no, nothing would get me to watch Keller in anything ever again. I lied.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think Keller could handle being on the Destiny with such a grim bunch, let alone the body-swapping stuff.

sga on sgu

[identity profile] http://openid.aol.com/inalaska2 (from livejournal.com) 2010-06-30 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
don't hate me for bringing this up, ok?
just asking the question,
but do u think that if the ratings for the SGU episode really spiked when JF or DH or whoever was guesting, that MGM or whoever has the cash might re-visit the movie? after seeing the fans responding to it, might that show them that there is an audience, a desperate audience who will watch what many hate and said so publicly and vehemently, just to see any part of SGA that we love so much?

Re: sga on sgu

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Would be neat if it did. However, since MGM owns the shows, they gotta get their stupid money problems ironed out first. Ah, sigh.

[identity profile] tex.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I would be really torn if an SGA character appeared on SGU. On one hand, I don't want my beloved characters tainted by that show. But on the other hand, I'd love it if that episode got huge ratings because of McKay/Sheppard/Zelenka. But in any case, I'd be afraid of how the writers would treat an SGA character since these other people are the golden children now.

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to bring up the ten ton gorilla in the room.

*clears throat*

Every actor on SGA deserves to earn a paycheck. That being said, I would feel....um...odd...if any of them took a part in a show that was for most the part, the reason SGA got axed. (not to mention how SGA has been treated as the step child to the franchise) Obviously this an extreme fan's view point vs. a practical business sense.

I'd probably still watch it regardless....

Showing off the vast fabric of the Stargate universe, cast members from both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis will make appearances in the second season of SGU.

Wait, so Jackson and O'Neill and Carter in the first and latter episodes, and Bill Lee are not cast members from SG-1????, hmmmm.

Cynical me reads this as "arg! our fans are leaving in apathetic droves, what do we do? I know lets start bringing in other characters to get them to watch". My less cynical side thinks "Hmm they may actually have been paying attention to feedback which said, you know those memory stones things.. they can be so much more useful if you got say, McKayand/or Zelenka in or perhaps even Carter to fix the damn ship, maybe Jackson to actually read what's in the stupid computer, and maybe teach everyone else to read it.. etc..etc..etc..".

But as I have said in my own LJ I am not hopeful that this would save the program if they are not going to actually going to like have story, plot and possibly even some action and adventure and maybe even some Sci-Fi in their new series:/..

It would make me genuinely sad if any of my favourites were to show up on SGU.

[identity profile] justhere1971.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I am with the many of the others, McKay would make the most sense. Would I watch SGU then? No. It's a reach on their part. Now that Cooper has left, does that effect them?

I miss Atlantis

[identity profile] darkphoenixset.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I quit Stargate after Atlantis. I'm not that excited.
Give me more Michael!

[identity profile] iamrighthere.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It makes sense that McKay and/or Carter would go. Jack, too, since he would leave Young in the dust when it comes to leadership and decision making. Honestly, so many of Destiny's passengers just flail around with their little soap operas and coups and whatnot, I'm surprised that more SG-1 and SGA characters haven't made an appearance to put things in order. But then the show would be called Stargate: SG-1Univerlantis.

[identity profile] myhelix.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think all three shows are awesome, every one in their own way. I really get fed up that some so called "fans" not able to see the franchise as a whole, and the most boring thing, like to see Universe get canceled! :( Well that would help SG1 and SGA not in the slightest way!
I am happy when McKay, Daniel and co. take a visit to Destiny once in a while. I think it´s only logical that maybe a scientist like McKay or Zelenka come on board for an episode or two. Hope that SGU will get at least 7 seasons. Atlantis was unfortunately way to short, but I also think SGA´s season 4 and the end of season 5 where weak.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I have no problem in people loving every single Stargate or disliking a bunch of them. but like I said somewhere here, SGu is just a different pizza. Stargate was my wonderful plain cheese pizza, SGA with anchovives (love 'em) and SGu, well, they stuck on meatballs, which i don't like, butI do like pizza, so I'm still trying it out. Best analogy I can think of.

[identity profile] toomuchfandom.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, there are still people around who call SGU a part of the Stargate franchise?

*shudders*

[identity profile] myhelix.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
And there are still people out there who call them selfs Stargate fans. *laughable*

People should move one with their live´s and not complaining about a show they hate so much. If I don´t like something, I not try to ruin it for others who find it great and simply stop watching. At least grown ups would do that.
The SGU actors and writer´s have nothing to do with TPTB decision to cancel Atlantis.

SGU IS AWESOME AND AMAZING!

As a diehard SGA fan, I tuned into SGU reluctantly and prepared to be bitter. I have to say that it has grown on me, so long as I don't think of it as related to SGA. It is dark and messy and there isn't a single character on there that I want to follow into fandom. But Young seems very complex to me, so if I continue to ignore the same old casting stereotypes of the women and minority actors, I can actually pretend that this has nothing to do with SGA and is merely TPTB attempt to revisit BSG or DS9 in their whitebread, predictable way.
I really feel that a SGA character will not blend with this show very well, the tone is so different. (And wouldn't they have to address the post-series time if they brought a character over from Earth now?)
Anyway, while the Eleventh Doctor finds his feet, SGU was a fairly engaging show that had nothing to do with 'jumpers, Todd, or, you know, likeable people.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm watching SGu as well, but it's not my favorite Stargate. I think SGA is although SG1 runs very close, but while SGU is Stargate, it's not Stargate that I love. Too dark, grim, and I'm still waiting for truly likeable character. I mean, I do like some fantasy when I get home. Get enough grim stuff on evening news.

I do like the actors, so am still watching the show, but it's not a show I'm deep into fandom (such as fanfic, etc).
