MGM Video: Joe Flanigan talks about Stargate Atlantis and his action figure, part 1 of 2

MGM has put up the EXTRA interview segment with Joe Flanigan at http://stargate.mgm.com/video.php?id=106. This was filmed during the season 4 episode "Harmony." Jerry Penacoli of the infotainment show EXTTRA! talks to Joe about Stargate Atlantis, the perks and drawbacks and the Sheppard action figure.

Over 90 screencaps under the cut. GRAPHIC INTENSIVE.

Joe etalks about confiding 'secrets' of season 4, such as the introduction of Sheppard's ex-wife ("Outcast").

Aw, come on, everybody wants a photo of a clipboard, right? ;)

On the set of "Harmony."

On the location shoot for "Harmony."

Joe explains they're on the planet "British Columbia.'" He notes that most of the planets look 'strikingly famliar.'

Jerry mentions that Sheppard is the 'action hero' of the show.

Which is tougher for Joe: the action scenes or the love scenes?

"I don't get enough love scenes," he deadpans.

Joe jokingly talks about "Amazon women" and "kirking."  Says "He's (Sheppard) is not 'Captain Kirking' it enough. He should be, kind of, Amazon women and things like that."

Joe says action scenes are fun because you can get "awfully sedentary" working on a TV show.

Working 12-14 hour days....

Jason and Joe run around a corner.

"The action shots are really kind of fun."

Toughest part of action shots is not having rehearsal time.

Joe says he’s not one of those disciplinarian kinds of guy who can do all the kung fu stuff, so instead he just whips out the gun and shoots the bad guy.

OKAY, going to put the rest of the photos in the next post located here.

Thank so much for this! The actual video won't load for me so the pic post and captions are great. I love hearing little tid bits about what goes on behind the scenes from the people who actually work for shows. It's all a lot more complicated than the actual episode seems on TV (which I guess is part of what makes it a difficult thing to do). *curious* What did Joe say about the kirking and Amazon women?

Just did a re-edit and added in some quotes for ya :)

Hee hee, "he's not 'Captain Kirking' it enough"! Only amongst sci-fi fans and actors has 'kirking' become an accepted verb. Thanks so much! Did you say there's another part coming soon?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's two parts in total. I figured 90 caps was enough ;)

Just go to the bottom of part one and click on the appropriate wording, or to the top of the post and NEXT ENTRY.

Oh my gosh these are wonderful. Thanks so much for capping this! He has the most sarcastic and dry sense of humor that I find myself laughing right along with him. And Jerry Penacoli seemed to find him a riot too. Oh, and he's also very pretty...Joe I mean.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I *adore* Joe's sense of humor (and David Hewlett's as well). So dry and sarcatic and so much fun. Glad you enjoyed the caps.

That was great. Thanks for sharing. Dang, he's adorable. I love the twinkle he gets when talking about his son sleeping with his daddy action figure. No, he's not a proud poppa at all....

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That story never gets old.I've heard it at one con and it's still fun to hear, plus he does such adorable poses...

[identity profile] saltyd.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
He does like to tell that story, doesn't he? Always cute to hear and I love the way he tells it. When I met him on set last year, he told me his sons like to play at being Daddy.
I wonder which son sleeps with the figure ;) Hmm, maybe I should start sleeping with mine. Wonder if the hubby would notice :)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Think Hubby might take issue to you taking an action figure to bed with you ;) :)

[identity profile] saltyd.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, maybe hubby needs to go on some business trips!

Great caps...thanks

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome.

Thanks for the terrific caps!!!
I watched the interview...it was great
because they included
shots from the show and the personal notes.
How could it be any better?????
>:-D

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Just make it longer ;) It was fun.

[identity profile] black-raven135.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Larry King recently asked who his audience would want him
to interview and to email his show with suggestions.
I immediately thought of the fab four....
:-)
I would really love to see Joe, David, Jason and Rachel
on his show
They have done it before with other casts.
I never watch King, but I sure would in that case.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
They've had cast members from other TV shows before. Why not SGA? Hmm...

[identity profile] black-raven135.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe WE ought to ALL email King??
>:-)

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
hm, what's the addy?

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's what I love best about Sheppard - he's not a kung fu kind of action star. It's guns, brains and a whole lot of luck with him, and sometimes he doesn't always get it right. He manages to pull off being both cool and a complete dork, and it keeps him from being the generic can-do-know-wrong hero.

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
And I like that he's a fallible hero as well; doesn't always succeed but yeah, he can be cool and a dork at the same time ;)

[identity profile] lorr54.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You are a star!!!

Does he seem to drop years when he's just chatting, especially whe talking about his family?

[identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He does seem relaxed when he chats about his family. It's sweet.
