MGM's Stargate site
Jul. 2nd, 2009 03:33 pmStargate and MGM's Financial Woes
May. 14th, 2009 07:34 pmFrom Deadline Hollywood blog:
Everyone knows that Mary Parent has been holding the studio together with the equivalent of chicken wire: specifically by partnering with studios left and right because they are willing to front the costs of each production. She also has been making some of the slate with the money from UA's deal with Merrill Lynch. Whether this convinces auditors that MGM is really in the movie biz, plus what is supposedly happening on the TV side (Stargate, BBC mini-series, etc) remains to be seen. If not, then MGM could be declared technically insolvent. And all hell breaks loose.
................
You need to read the full blog entry, but if MGM goes under, I'd hate to see the Stargate franchise go down with it. Well, at least they're not in the automotive business...
First, who has not heard that yes, they're going to make a MacGyver movie? I don't hold out any hope for it, not after they cast Ben Stiller as Starsky in Starsky & Hutch, and Colin Farrell as Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice. Sorry, but remakes like this just don't work. I have horrid visions of them casting Adam Sandler, complete with mullet, as MacGyver. Shudder. Anyway, here's the main post on it - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i68061ff8eae6a63772900e662e5accd6
Second, Sci Fi channel is changing its name to Sy Fy (they probably bought out the Sy Fy part from Sy Fy Portal as their name changed instantly). Anyway, skip the NY Times article and go straight to Ad Age - http://adage.com/mediaworks/article?article_id=135254 - which gives more details and just makes you shake your head and scream "What were they thinking?" Really, check SciFi Wire's comment page, Twitter, or just about any article, and you'll be hard pressed to find positive press on this move. I can only fathom this will expand their realm to more wrestling crap and maybe paranoral cooking or modeling shows. After all, that's all female viewers watch, right? (last remark said with heavy sarcasm).
And MGM, well, read the post before this. Gah, they need more brains in the marketing department.
But with SciFi, SyFy, or Skiffy, well, doesn't matter much as well, Stargate Atlantis is done and well, SGU, I'll tape and watch later.
New MGM video for Stargate Atlantis
Feb. 23rd, 2009 07:57 amIn the ironically titled...
What Makes Stargate Atlantis a Success?
2:35 7.65MB
Find out what the cast and crew think about the success of the show! Watch it in real time - only on SCI FI.

Hmm, 'makes' implies it's still around. Last time I looked, it was cancelled.
Stargate Atlantis: McKayisms ringtones
Aug. 19th, 2008 06:42 pm
Sure, haven't you always wanted to hear McKay's voice blare out of your pants pocket? Er, um, purse, whatever? Now's your chance! Yeah, MGm has this on their site www.mgm.com/stargate in the rotating banner. It links to http://www.wireless.att.com/home/ but I haven't found out where to buy the things yet.
Ah, go to http://www.answertones.wireless.att.com/AT/HTML/, and well, I'm still poking around...
MGM has put up the EXTRA interview segment with Joe Flanigan at http://stargate.mgm.com/video.php?id=106. This was filmed during the season 4 episode "Harmony." Jerry Penacoli of the infotainment show EXTTRA! talks to Joe about Stargate Atlantis, the perks and drawbacks and the Sheppard action figure.
Over 90 screencaps under the cut. GRAPHIC INTENSIVE.

Back when it was cold and snowy, or at least cold, in January, somebody who wasn't thinking stuck up several very long video interviews with David Hewlett, Brad Wright and RC Cooper. Of course, a day or so later, MGM yanked 'em down as they contained spoilers, like, oh, Carson Beckett DIES. Oops.
Anyway, MGM has been dribbilng out little video bytes from those long interviews, and #7 of 7 with David Hewlett has come out. It's available at http://stargate.mgm.com/video.php?id=47
Anyway, I'd remembered him talking about how much fun Paul McGillion, but sadly forgot about how much he extolled the fun of having Torri Higginson around. It's really sorta ironic or at least sad to watch these videos now (from what I could judge, they were made around the holiday in 2006, so possibly Christmas or Thanksgiving??)
Anyway, you can read the transcript or watch the video or both. David sure does love that shirt as I've seen it in other photos too....
I've done a transcript of sorts of DAVID HEWLETT's video over at MGM (http://stargatesg1.com/Interviews). The casting spoilers for two actors are pretty much common knowledge, because the press has posted them, the actors' websites/lists talk of them. However, one episodic spoiler will be stuck way at the bottom of the post and warnings put up. The rest is pretty spoiler free, so enjoy the text under the cut.
