I agree that as the leader of Atlantis that Carter maybe shouldn't have gone off world, but maybe it was to show the others what kind of stuff she's made of, with her military background, and she won't do it so much as the season progresses. I also thought that Shephard's "performance" was a bit lackluster, but put it down to still being a bit depressed over the loss of Elizabeth, and he'll perk up later with more of his humor kicking in. I kind of giggled over the scene in Carter's quarters when Ronon towered over her like he was trying to intimidate her, and she didn't back down an inch. While she may still be learning, she is in command and she's going to let him know it, just like Elizabeth did in so many episodes with Ronon and all the others. And, as I think she said at one point "I'm not Weir".
