Stargate Atlantis stuff
Nov. 1st, 2014 07:47 amAnd, Stargate novels is offering a free download (Word of PDF) of one of it's Stargate stories, but just until November 2nd. Rush on over to http://www.stargatenovels.com/SGX-01-Stargate-SG1-Stargate-Atlantis-Far-Horizons.shtml. I found it humorous that " Remember, this will only be available until Sunday 2 November after which it will disappear like Wraith fodder."
Cool, my moniker is almost there...
I miss Stargate Atlantis, heck, just Stargate. Scifi on TV just isn't the same, and Friday nights are more for watching stuff on video on demand than anything live on TV.
New York Comic Con, a mini-review
Dec. 17th, 2013 09:45 pmAnd I’m so far behind on LJ it ain’t funny.
New York Comic-Con
Well, it didn’t go as planned. For years, I’ve simply picked up the tickets for the Saturday for #NYCC at local comic shops. This year, well, I called and they sold out about ten minutes after they opened, which left me and my friend going ‘uh…’ So I looked at what was left – Friday or Sunday. Sunday is kids day and that made me go “eeuuuu”. No offense to children, but hundreds of them all over the place ‘wanting’ stuff might drive me nuts, so I ordered Friday tickets. This must have been pre-ordained cuz when the schedule came out, I found out that David Hewlett (@dhewlett) had a panel that night and only that night. It was meant to be.

excerpt:
Q: One more 'Stargate' question: McKay is a fan favorite. Why do you think fans connect with him so well?
A: I can't speak for the fans, but I can speak for me ... I think if I wasn't working on these shows I would be a fan of this stuff. I grew up watching 'Doctor Who' and buying all the books and the dolls and that kind of stuff. I love that stuff, so I feel like I'm paid to do what I would be paying to do! But for McKay, I always feel like there's a little bit of McKay in everybody. Everybody wants to be the guy who has the answers and who isn't afraid to admit that he's a genius, social niceties be damned! I mean I love science fiction because it takes me out of this world. And with McKay, he's the scientist who has spent his entire life reading about this stuff and now he's getting to live it. In a way that's what all of us want. We've done the reading, we've done the research, we've done the dreaming, and we want to be McKay -- we want to be the guy who saves the day because we know all this stuff. We want all this nerd-dom to pay off. And McKay is the resulting image, he's th
e iconic figure of the nerd who's done his homework and now he gets to go off and save the universe.

JOE FLANIGAN
It’s just days away (8) till Joe’s SyFy flick Ferocious Planet (aka The Other Side) airs at 9pm on SyFy. You can watch the latest teaser ad at http://video.syfy.com/movies_events/syfy_saturday/promos_trailers_8/ferocious-planet--syfy-original-movie/v1316616 And heck, you can even pre-order this gem of a movie at Amazon.com at http://amzn.to/ferociousplanet for $17.99. It will be released June 7th. Fans are hoping he might resurface on twitter when the movie airs next Saturday.
Good Day for It, the drama he made last summer, is coming out on DVD, but only in Australia (note: those DVDs not playable in Region 1 (USA) players). http://www.borders.com.au/video/good-day-for-it/24309881/ has details and the Synopsis: A man forced to abandon his wife and daughter years earlier must risk his life to settle an old score and reunite his family. Forced to leave town after betraying Lyle Tyrus the ruthless leader of a rural crime gang Luke Cain has stayed away for 15 years to protect his wife and daughter from Lyle's vengeance. But his daughter Emily nurses a burning desire to see her father and Luke finally agrees to meet her at a cafe on the outskirts of town. But fate intervenes when Lyle's brother Norman and his killing crew chance by the cafe. They leave without incident but Luke knows it is just a matter of time before they report to Lyle and return to exact their revenge. Luke is forced to make a difficult and potentially life threatening decision. Should he leave his daughter behind again or wait for his worst nightmare to walk straight through the door only time will tell if today really is a Good day For It ! - It’s also at the Philadelphia Cinefest 2011 (April 7-14). Details at http://www.phillycinefest.org/film-details.cfm?id=9723
Change of Plans, the family movie he made for Fox TV along with Brooke White, is available for order at the Walmart site. Alas, it doesn’t appear to be for sale in stores, at least not yet. You can pre-order for around $12 at http://www.walmart.com/ip/15778093 . Alas, it will not be released until April 26th.
He did an online interview at http://pmc-mag.com/2011/03/joe-flanigan/ back in early March. And he’s going to be at Dragoncon (http://www.dragoncon.org/dc_guests_list.php) whereas I – unless I win powerball – am not. Boo hoo.

Stargate Atlantis actor news
Feb. 5th, 2011 07:41 pmUpdate on the Stargate Atlantis folk! It's not the entire cast, but the key folk. If I've missed any news, just add it to the comments below so others can read :)
Joe Flanigan
Alas his Fox/Walmart movie CHANGE OF PLANS had lukewarm ratings although good fan reaction. It will be out on DVD at Walmart on March 22nd. Otherwise, he seems to be taking a sabbatical from Twitter, despite fans’ pokes at him to tweet.
However, he did attend the Flight and Fable gallery opening – links and more at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/465283.html
A video trailer came out of THE OTHER SIDE (at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/464413.html) and screencaps and irreverent dialogue are at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/464729.html
IMDB shows that his humorous scifi movie SPORE is in pre-production. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1770742/
David Hewlett
David’s RISE OF THE APES has been pushed back from a summer airing to a Thanksgiving 2011 release.
David did another podcast interview with Geekdad. You can download and listen to his interview at http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/01/the-geekdads-episode-83-every-games-better-with-zombies/
He’s been busy tweeting (if you have twitter and don’t follow @dhewlett, what’s wrong with you???) ;) – He noted humorously “dhewlett: Looks like there is a PIN remake in the works! Guess I better start campaigning to play my dad?! bit.ly/dPO5AC”
And he’s back to writing! “dhewlett: Thanks to chat yesterday with @Syfy I'm currently tapping away at a little something called Starcrossed...Keep those fingers crossed!”
A flashback to PIN, an odd movie David did years ago. http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3333:fango-flashback-pin&catid=59:fango-flashback&Itemid=189 An excerpt: “However what the emotionally detached Dr. Linden does not realize is that his son Leon (SPLICE’s David Hewlett) is in fact a schizophrenic with traits of disassociative personality disorder with no real friends and believes Pin is actually alive.
A photo of him recently appeared from his ‘evil snow monkeys’ movie – it’s at this journal entry - http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/466046.html
And he’s been blogging over at Blaster.com at http://blastr.com/2011/01/david-hewlett-my-hilariou.php and it’s got a record number of comments.
Torri Higginson
Remember the SyFy movie STONEHEDGE APOCALYPSE? Well, an enterprising fan screencapped the movie, mostly for Supernatural actor Misha Collins, but she also capped Torri as well. Details and download instructions at http://community.livejournal.com/rawr_caps/270961.html and, ohmygosh, they screencap a LOT of shows… NCIS, White Collar and more!
Rachel Luttrell
Will be releasing her first album, I WISH YOU LOVE, which is scheduled for a February 2011 release. You can watch a sample video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0KX82Cj4iM
Jason Momoa
There are a number of articles on the CONAN THE BARBARIAN movie, but nothing with too much news in it (mostly comparisons to the Arnie S version). However, in an interview with actor Stephen Lang at http://collider.com/stephen-lang-interview-terra-nova/69631/, he said “And, I’ve got to say that Jason Momoa, who plays Conan, was just spectacularly good. He was terrific. He did a great job and was a real stud, and I enjoying beating the hell out of him. That was fun.”
And Jason will soon be seen in the HBO miniseries GAME OF THRONES (premieres April 17th). Here’s a quote from an interview with producers at http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/01/09/game-of-thrones/ - “And Jason Momoa [who plays Dothraki leader Khal Drogo] is just the coolest kid around.”
Kavan Smith
Will be in the Febraury 12th SyFy movie (9pm ET) called IRON INVADER, in which an alien bacteria comes to earth, animates an iron sculpture, which of course stomps the living beejesus out of the redshirts in a small town cuz it’s cheaper to have just a few people in the cast rather than a lot ;) Kavan, at least according to video at http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/42084/syfys-iron-invader-goes-viral, is one of the heroes. Paul McGillion is in the cast as well, see below.
Paul McGillion
See above. Just saw an ad for it in SyFy. Paul plays the sheriff in IRON INVADER. Somehow, that’s just about 50/50 with being a doctor and dying horribly on a SyFy movie.
David Nykl
Oh wow, he’s got a cute dinosaur picture on his January 26th entry at http://lettersfrompegasus.blogspot.com/. So visit his blog. He’s doing cons and such, but no new news to really report. Hmm, he needs to do another SyFy movie.
Rainbow Sun Francks
Plays the “computer maven” Corp. Dev Clark in this series that airs on CTV (and once aired on NBC, but got yanked due to low ratings). The Canadian series THE LISTENER comes back to CTV on February 8th.
Full press release at http://ctvmedia.ca/ctv/releases/release.asp?id=13424&yyyy=2011 and the series has a Facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=37939960589 where you can find promotional photos.
Jewel Staite
Her short horror movie THE PACT premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival (on January 24th). She plays a woman alone in a house of her late mother, and a sinister presence. More details and photos and trailers at http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=36&t=47226&newsid=0
Jessica Steen
The first Dr. Weir, is in the season finale of FLASHPOINT, which will air right after the Superbowl, in Canada on CTV, not the US on CBS, alas. However, CBS will be airing more episodes of Flashpoint in the summer of 2011, and ION TV has bought the entire series, so eventually you can see all of Jessica’s episodes, when she stepped in to fill the void for six episodes when Amy Jo Johnson was pregnant and temporarily off the series. UPDATE: Just got informed by @klharris39 on Twitter that Jessica has a recurring role as the character Lisa Stillman on the Canadian tv series HEARTLAND.
And that's it!
David Hewlett - Morlocks and Monkeys
Jan. 31st, 2011 10:47 pm
First, big thanks to http://community.livejournal.com/hewlett_daily/394140.html for posting the information, which came via another fan over at Gateworld.
Yes, David Hewlett has spiffed up for Morlocks: The Time Machine. Okay, he's in fatigues. Somehow, I keep thinking, there should be some other guy there with spiky hair, standing next to him.
Okay, David's got the spiky hair thing going but it's not the same, but heh, this is a SyFy type movie so we know it's gonna be awful, but... we're going to watch it cuz David is in it! :)
I actually checked their "recent films" on the UFO site and they've got some drecky sounding horror/scifi flicks in production, and I can only hope some Stargate Atlantis folk may appear in some ;) And under their library section (http://www.ufofilm.com/?show=films&type=library) is Yeren, the name for David Hewlett's "evil snow monkey film". In looking at the library, we can now see where SyFy gets a lot of their, um, *cough*, gems ;) Hmm noticed some of the 'recent films' have video clips. We can hope we'll get clips soon from David's films...

Joe Flanigan Supports Sarah Geary
Description
Includes: Lunch with Joe Flanigan David Hewlett in Los Angeles in mid-November 2010. Restaurant is TBD. Based on availability.
Joe Flanigan
Joe Flanigan was born in Los Angeles and raised near Reno, Nevada. He grew up on a small ranch he likens to a Dr. Doolittle set, where his mother collected animals of every variety, including rare white Ria's, Scottish Highland cattle, and Emu's. " A remarkably stupid animal, but they can spit you in the eye from about 20 yards". After 'serving a 4 year sentence' at boarding school in Ojai, California, he later studied art and history at the University of Paris a la Sorbonne and eventually graduated with a degree in history from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Following multifarious stints including being an Advance Man for the Vice President of the United States and working at Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine, Joe found himself fired, broke and uncertain of his next move. An actor friend and neighbor suggested acting and Joe ultimately ended up at Milton Katsela's Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. Financial pressure forced him to head quickly to Los Angeles in search of paying work. After starting with a number of commercials, Joe began to land roles in film and TV which included being a series regular on the last season of the Emmy nominated series Sisters on NBC, and CBS's First Monday. Additionally he has shot 11 network pilots/movies including USA's Thoughtcrimes, and scored numerous reoccurring and guest roles on Murphy Brown, Providence, Profiler, CSI Miami to name a few. He recently completed 100 episodes in the starring role of John Sheppard in Stargate Atlantis, which also won the People's Choice Award.
Joe resides in Malibu with his wife of 13 years, painter Katherine Kousi, and his three rowdy young boys, Aidan, Truman and Fergus. He is an avid surfer, gardner and not-so successfull bee-keeper.
David Hewlett
Hewlett got his first computer in his mid-teens and became a self-described "computernerd". While attending high school in Toronto he launched his acting career, starring in student films by Vincenzo Natali. He dropped out of high school in his senior year to pursue careers in acting and computing.
David Hewlett has appeared in many low-budget horror movies, such as The Darksideand the minor cult favourites Scanners II: The New Order and Pin. He also guest starred in several television series. In 1996, he landed one of his better-known roles, as Grant Jansky on Traders. In 1997, Hewlett worked again with Natali, starring in the critically-acclaimed thriller Cube as Worth the architect, a role that saw the rise of his stardom due to the commercial success of the low budget Canadian film.
David Hewlett in the conference room at Bridge Studios, Vancouver, during a break in filming Stargate Atlantis episode 5.18 "Identity" A self-confessed science fiction fan, Hewlett has been quoted saying that Doctor Who is what first sparked his love for the genre and that he made science fiction when he was younger in England on his 8 millimetre camera with friends. Hewlett more or less had his early dreams of working in science fiction made into a reality when he first had a four-episode guest role on Stargate SG-1 as the Stargateexpert Rodney McKay, which eventually grew into his starring role on Stargate Atlantis. In 2007, David appeared as a guest star in the first episode of the TV series Sanctuary, a show produced by and starring Stargate actress Amanda Tapping. He played Larry Tolson – a patient suffering from a form of psychosis, who was shot and wounded before being taken into custody by police as a homicide suspect. There are no plans for him to reprise this role.
In 2007 he wrote and directed A Dog's Breakfast starring himself, his sister Kate Hewlett, his dog Mars, and Stargate Atlantis costars Paul McGillion, Christopher Judge, and Rachel Luttrell.
Bid now on this lunch with Joe and David!

Stargate Atlantis actor news
Aug. 12th, 2010 09:59 pmPosted this on twitter, but anyway…
A nice selection of photos from Kate Hewlett’s new play, "THE SWEARING JAR," which begins in NYC in limited run on August 14th. You can find ticket info and more at http://www.fringenyc.org/basic_page.php?ltr=S#TheSwe. I saw one of her plays in NYC last year and it was great! A friend and I have plans to go in the week after next.
Jason Momoa has pulled out of the Chicago Creation con in August. http://www.creationent.com/cal/sgchi.htm They posted “August 11, 2010: We have been advised by Jason Momoa's convention rep that due to work commitments he is unfortunately unable to make his contracted appearance with us at the convention. We wish Jason well and hope to have him join us the next time around. Those with separate Jason autograph tickets and/or photo ops can use these tickets as "cash" towards additional tickets, photo ops or Creation merchandise at the convention. Kindly bring your unused PDF tickets to registration (when there is no line) for a credit voucher. THANKS!
I have to say that at the moment, I’m not sure what Jason is doing that he can’t appear. Oh well, not like I’m there. But a virtual ‘darn’ for those who are going who will miss him, but it is better that the actors get steady work …
For those who don’t know, David Nykl was also interviewed at Martin Firrell’s site at http://www.martinfirrell.com/davidnykl/ . And Ben Browder, and of course, Joe Flanigan. Now if they can add David Hewlett to the mix….
Joe Flanigan is still tweeting, one here, one there. Alas, the production folk on "The Other Side" have put down the kabash on ‘location’ photos that actors have put up. If it goes up on twitter, poof, it doesn’t last long, unless of course it has nothing to do with being onset, I guess. Hopefully when the movie premieres they’ll put up photos. In looking at tweets by the junior actors on the movie, there's about a week or so left of filming.
Paul McGillion’s 13-minute short film, "A Fine Young Man," was selected as one of 40 films to be featured in the Short Cuts Canada Lineup this year. “The film is set in 1962, in the middle of the Cold War. With the fear of nuclear attack a constant worry, the United States is trying to beat Russia to the punch. As the short teaser puts it "(t)hey've been looking for someone like Pete. Someone honest, upstanding and true. Someone they can put their faith in." But Pete may not be as squeaky clean as one might think.” More at http://www.sciencefantasyuniverse.com/2010/08/12/paul-mcgillion-film-at-tiff/
And alas, we still have to suck David Nykl, Kavan Smith, Paul McGillion and Torri Higginson to the dark side of Twitter. One day… <evil cackle>
Last but not least, David Hewlett is busy star gazing (Perseids meteor shower), snarking about @JoeFlanigan on twitter ("Oh, I'm getting all the @joeflanigan I need thank you very much ;-) He also said that he will be filming an episode of Stargate Universe in September, but not sure when it will air. and.... "Definitely DragonCon photo ops in the works... maybe even with a little sister along for the ride too!" so maybe Kate Hewlett will be down there. (Curse that lotto ticket that didn't win me even one dollar!)
NOTE: Just found out from @Tanith0709 on Twitter that Robert Picardo is in same SGU episode, the 15th, called "Seizure."
And if you didn't know it, Rainbow Sun Francks tweets as @Snywhip. :)
SGA Twitters
Jul. 31st, 2010 08:58 pmFor those who were watching SyFy last night, you saw that Kavan Smith has taken over the role of Deputy Andy. Although he got scorched, he did survive the episode, so we can hope for more appearances. Meanwhile, you can find a bunch of nice screencaps at http://fu-dragon.livejournal.com/9382.html
--------------
Rachell Luttrell posted on twitter today:
@rachel_Luttrell Saw sweet Torri yesterday at an audition for a new TV series. (Ah, the life of an actor.) She looked beautiful as ever.
So, looks like both Rachel and Torri Higginson were at same audition. Fingers crossed for both of them!
--------------
David Hewlett ... @dhewlett Never have so many children been hurled so high into the air so many times by so few. I'll sleep well tonight, and dream of chiropractors.
He's busy, doing some rework on the "Rise of the Apes" movie as well. Plus, I think he and Joe Flanigan will be tweeting back and forth, hopefully in the public venue so we fans can be amused ;)
---------------
And Joe Flanigan hasn't posted a lot on Twitter, but he's at ___ followers (pretty good for 48 hours online). One of the folks he follows is film producer @adriansturges who tweeted #FF @JoeFlanigan US acting rockstar currently wowing us in Dublin, @cigsandredvines, @bakermathew, @tomharps
So it appears Joe is in Ireland to do a film, or is interested in one there. The IFTN site at http://www.iftn.ie/production/in_production/ doesn't list names of cast - darn - so it's a matter of hoping someone will drop more hints and we fans can ferrett out the production.
---------------
And Rainbow Sun Francks, @Snywhip on twitter, tweeted: "Waiting to hear back on a few auditions now. This is the worst part of acting by far... " One of the show he auditioned for is a scifi show for Fox.
Some hints from Twitter from David Hewlett:
dhewlett: Day one on my latest primate movie ;-) Currently holding the key to a great performance: coffee and the ubiquitous breakfast burrito!
Well, that's enough data. I toodled on over to the British Columbia film commission website to see what was being filmed in Vancouver - http://www.bcfilmcommission.com/about_us/film_list.php - and saw this:
CAESAR: RISE OF THE APES
TCF Vancouver Productions Ltd.
Director: Rupert WyattExec. Producer(s): Thomas Hammel
Producer: Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark
DOP: Andrew Lesnie
PD: Claude Pare
PM: Wendy Williams
PC: Patricia Foster
LM: Catou Kearney
SPFX Coord: Tony Lazarowich
Casting: Mayrs/Brandstatter
Extras: Andrea Brown
Production Address: 2880 Underhill Ave.
Production City: Burnaby
Postal: V5A 3C5
Sched: Jul 05/10 - Sep 17/10
So, I'm guessing he's working on that. It's the only movie mentioned with 'primates' in it, it's probably considered big. Not much on IMDB yet (James Franco and Don Cheadle in cast and they just cast someone for the lead primate).
I hope his character fares better than his character in SPLICE! ;)
I don't go to the movies - time and lack of stuff I really want to see - but David Hewlett's SPLICE came to down and I said darnit, I'm going. Now I remember why I don't go often. Gotta sit through 15 minutes of pre-movie stuff!

"Resident Evil" Afterlife" in 3D, or it's #3 ,or something
"Jonah Hex" - it's the only one I recognized
By the time they all ended I was beginning to forget why I was in the theater, but then...
...SPLICE finally started, and I enjoyed the movie. David Hewlett played a corporate baddie of sorts and you could see little bits of McKay leak through here and there ;) I won't say what happens to his character, in case you go see it. Basically, the film is a nice study of sliding down that slippery slope to Hell with "okay, just one more day" or one more experiment, etc. I've liked Sarah Polley since her Avonlea days. The SPX were very good, and Dren was intriguing. Adorable as a child, and scarier has she grew/evolved. Won't say much more. It's a horror movie/morality play of sorts, so expect squickiness along the way, as well as morality issues. And like in real life, things don't end as you'd like them to end.
I got the chance to watch them! They are longer and worth watching!
Joe Flanigan at
http://www.serieasten.tv/SERIEASTEN/SPEC
It was fun. They did ask him about Stargate Universe, which he sat down and watched with his kids, who, 15 minutes in, said "We're bored" so that was the last he's seen of it. He's had film role offers, but has turned them down as he's working on a TV show! He talked about writing and acting, and of course, the train mix-up at the con. He said he and David would like to work together again :)
David Hewlett
http://www.serieasten.tv/SERIEASTEN/SPEC
David doesn't have time to blog - with ideas and a 2-year-old - he likes Twitter. He says if he wasn't attending as a guest, he'd be there as an attendee. He loves the escapism side of science fiction. David hasn't seen SGU. "As far as I'm concerned, those guys are on my set eating my sandwiches," he said drolly (and jokingly).
