JOE FLANIGAN
It’s just days away (8) till Joe’s SyFy flick Ferocious Planet (aka The Other Side) airs at 9pm on SyFy. You can watch the latest teaser ad at http://video.syfy.com/movies_events/syfy_saturday/promos_trailers_8/ferocious-planet--syfy-original-movie/v1316616 And heck, you can even pre-order this gem of a movie at Amazon.com at http://amzn.to/ferociousplanet for $17.99. It will be released June 7th. Fans are hoping he might resurface on twitter when the movie airs next Saturday.
Good Day for It, the drama he made last summer, is coming out on DVD, but only in Australia (note: those DVDs not playable in Region 1 (USA) players). http://www.borders.com.au/video/good-day-for-it/24309881/ has details and the Synopsis: A man forced to abandon his wife and daughter years earlier must risk his life to settle an old score and reunite his family. Forced to leave town after betraying Lyle Tyrus the ruthless leader of a rural crime gang Luke Cain has stayed away for 15 years to protect his wife and daughter from Lyle's vengeance. But his daughter Emily nurses a burning desire to see her father and Luke finally agrees to meet her at a cafe on the outskirts of town. But fate intervenes when Lyle's brother Norman and his killing crew chance by the cafe. They leave without incident but Luke knows it is just a matter of time before they report to Lyle and return to exact their revenge. Luke is forced to make a difficult and potentially life threatening decision. Should he leave his daughter behind again or wait for his worst nightmare to walk straight through the door only time will tell if today really is a Good day For It ! - It’s also at the Philadelphia Cinefest 2011 (April 7-14). Details at http://www.phillycinefest.org/film-details.cfm?id=9723
Change of Plans, the family movie he made for Fox TV along with Brooke White, is available for order at the Walmart site. Alas, it doesn’t appear to be for sale in stores, at least not yet. You can pre-order for around $12 at http://www.walmart.com/ip/15778093 . Alas, it will not be released until April 26th.
He did an online interview at http://pmc-mag.com/2011/03/joe-flanigan/ back in early March. And he’s going to be at Dragoncon (http://www.dragoncon.org/dc_guests_list.php) whereas I – unless I win powerball – am not. Boo hoo.
UPDATE! Listen to "JOE FLANIGAN" hosted by BuzzWorthy Radio on 4/7/2011 2:30 PM #BlogTalkRadio http://tobtr.com/s/1711271 (from @BuzzWorthyRadio via tavabean )
( More on rest of cast under cut )
Update on the Stargate Atlantis folk! It's not the entire cast, but the key folk. If I've missed any news, just add it to the comments below so others can read :)
Joe Flanigan
Alas his Fox/Walmart movie CHANGE OF PLANS had lukewarm ratings although good fan reaction. It will be out on DVD at Walmart on March 22nd. Otherwise, he seems to be taking a sabbatical from Twitter, despite fans’ pokes at him to tweet.
However, he did attend the Flight and Fable gallery opening – links and more at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/465283.html
A video trailer came out of THE OTHER SIDE (at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/464413.html) and screencaps and irreverent dialogue are at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/464729.html
IMDB shows that his humorous scifi movie SPORE is in pre-production. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1770742/
David Hewlett
David’s RISE OF THE APES has been pushed back from a summer airing to a Thanksgiving 2011 release.
David did another podcast interview with Geekdad. You can download and listen to his interview at http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/01/the-geekdads-episode-83-every-games-better-with-zombies/
He’s been busy tweeting (if you have twitter and don’t follow @dhewlett, what’s wrong with you???) ;) – He noted humorously “dhewlett: Looks like there is a PIN remake in the works! Guess I better start campaigning to play my dad?! bit.ly/dPO5AC”
And he’s back to writing! “dhewlett: Thanks to chat yesterday with @Syfy I'm currently tapping away at a little something called Starcrossed...Keep those fingers crossed!”
A flashback to PIN, an odd movie David did years ago. http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3333:fango-flashback-pin&catid=59:fango-flashback&Itemid=189 An excerpt: “However what the emotionally detached Dr. Linden does not realize is that his son Leon (SPLICE’s David Hewlett) is in fact a schizophrenic with traits of disassociative personality disorder with no real friends and believes Pin is actually alive.
A photo of him recently appeared from his ‘evil snow monkeys’ movie – it’s at this journal entry - http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/466046.html
And he’s been blogging over at Blaster.com at http://blastr.com/2011/01/david-hewlett-my-hilariou.php and it’s got a record number of comments.
Torri Higginson
Remember the SyFy movie STONEHEDGE APOCALYPSE? Well, an enterprising fan screencapped the movie, mostly for Supernatural actor Misha Collins, but she also capped Torri as well. Details and download instructions at http://community.livejournal.com/rawr_caps/270961.html and, ohmygosh, they screencap a LOT of shows… NCIS, White Collar and more!
Rachel Luttrell
Will be releasing her first album, I WISH YOU LOVE, which is scheduled for a February 2011 release. You can watch a sample video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0KX82Cj4iM
Jason Momoa
There are a number of articles on the CONAN THE BARBARIAN movie, but nothing with too much news in it (mostly comparisons to the Arnie S version). However, in an interview with actor Stephen Lang at http://collider.com/stephen-lang-interview-terra-nova/69631/, he said “And, I’ve got to say that Jason Momoa, who plays Conan, was just spectacularly good. He was terrific. He did a great job and was a real stud, and I enjoying beating the hell out of him. That was fun.”
And Jason will soon be seen in the HBO miniseries GAME OF THRONES (premieres April 17th). Here’s a quote from an interview with producers at http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/01/09/game-of-thrones/ - “And Jason Momoa [who plays Dothraki leader Khal Drogo] is just the coolest kid around.”
Kavan Smith
Will be in the Febraury 12th SyFy movie (9pm ET) called IRON INVADER, in which an alien bacteria comes to earth, animates an iron sculpture, which of course stomps the living beejesus out of the redshirts in a small town cuz it’s cheaper to have just a few people in the cast rather than a lot ;) Kavan, at least according to video at http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/42084/syfys-iron-invader-goes-viral, is one of the heroes. Paul McGillion is in the cast as well, see below.
Paul McGillion
See above. Just saw an ad for it in SyFy. Paul plays the sheriff in IRON INVADER. Somehow, that’s just about 50/50 with being a doctor and dying horribly on a SyFy movie.
David Nykl
Oh wow, he’s got a cute dinosaur picture on his January 26th entry at http://lettersfrompegasus.blogspot.com/. So visit his blog. He’s doing cons and such, but no new news to really report. Hmm, he needs to do another SyFy movie.
Rainbow Sun Francks
Plays the “computer maven” Corp. Dev Clark in this series that airs on CTV (and once aired on NBC, but got yanked due to low ratings). The Canadian series THE LISTENER comes back to CTV on February 8th.
Full press release at http://ctvmedia.ca/ctv/releases/release.asp?id=13424&yyyy=2011 and the series has a Facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=37939960589 where you can find promotional photos.
Jewel Staite
Her short horror movie THE PACT premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival (on January 24th). She plays a woman alone in a house of her late mother, and a sinister presence. More details and photos and trailers at http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=36&t=47226&newsid=0
Jessica Steen
The first Dr. Weir, is in the season finale of FLASHPOINT, which will air right after the Superbowl, in Canada on CTV, not the US on CBS, alas. However, CBS will be airing more episodes of Flashpoint in the summer of 2011, and ION TV has bought the entire series, so eventually you can see all of Jessica’s episodes, when she stepped in to fill the void for six episodes when Amy Jo Johnson was pregnant and temporarily off the series. UPDATE: Just got informed by @klharris39 on Twitter that Jessica has a recurring role as the character Lisa Stillman on the Canadian tv series HEARTLAND.
And that's it!
Posted this on twitter, but anyway…
A nice selection of photos from Kate Hewlett’s new play, "THE SWEARING JAR," which begins in NYC in limited run on August 14th. You can find ticket info and more at http://www.fringenyc.org/basic_page.php?ltr=S#TheSwe. I saw one of her plays in NYC last year and it was great! A friend and I have plans to go in the week after next.
Jason Momoa has pulled out of the Chicago Creation con in August. http://www.creationent.com/cal/sgchi.htm They posted “August 11, 2010: We have been advised by Jason Momoa's convention rep that due to work commitments he is unfortunately unable to make his contracted appearance with us at the convention. We wish Jason well and hope to have him join us the next time around. Those with separate Jason autograph tickets and/or photo ops can use these tickets as "cash" towards additional tickets, photo ops or Creation merchandise at the convention. Kindly bring your unused PDF tickets to registration (when there is no line) for a credit voucher. THANKS!
I have to say that at the moment, I’m not sure what Jason is doing that he can’t appear. Oh well, not like I’m there. But a virtual ‘darn’ for those who are going who will miss him, but it is better that the actors get steady work …
For those who don’t know, David Nykl was also interviewed at Martin Firrell’s site at http://www.martinfirrell.com/davidnykl/ . And Ben Browder, and of course, Joe Flanigan. Now if they can add David Hewlett to the mix….
Joe Flanigan is still tweeting, one here, one there. Alas, the production folk on "The Other Side" have put down the kabash on ‘location’ photos that actors have put up. If it goes up on twitter, poof, it doesn’t last long, unless of course it has nothing to do with being onset, I guess. Hopefully when the movie premieres they’ll put up photos. In looking at tweets by the junior actors on the movie, there's about a week or so left of filming.
Paul McGillion’s 13-minute short film, "A Fine Young Man," was selected as one of 40 films to be featured in the Short Cuts Canada Lineup this year. “The film is set in 1962, in the middle of the Cold War. With the fear of nuclear attack a constant worry, the United States is trying to beat Russia to the punch. As the short teaser puts it "(t)hey've been looking for someone like Pete. Someone honest, upstanding and true. Someone they can put their faith in." But Pete may not be as squeaky clean as one might think.” More at http://www.sciencefantasyuniverse.com/2010/08/12/paul-mcgillion-film-at-tiff/
And alas, we still have to suck David Nykl, Kavan Smith, Paul McGillion and Torri Higginson to the dark side of Twitter. One day… <evil cackle>

Depression, sadly, is a dirty word.
The mere mention of any variety of mental illness makes most people squirm, but depression is the one that proves impossible to understand unless you've witnessed -- or, God forbid, experienced -- its debilitating effects first-hand.

Three local companies receive NEA grants to help kids brush up on their Shakespeare
Remember those long afternoons in English class, plowing through "Macbeth"?
Well, Shakespeare is meant to be seen and heard, not read--which is why the National Endowment for the Arts created Shakespeare for a New Generation, a grant program designed to help theaters bring the Bard to life for middle and high school students.

David Hewlett is pointing his finger at me. Hey, David, didn't anybody teach you it's not polite to point? Oh wait, wait, you're trying to get our attention (see below).
David Nykl Blog update

http://lettersfrompegasus.blogspot.com/2009/10/anyone-going-to-philly.html
Anyone going to Philly?…
EXCERPT: The auditions are picking up. Hooray. Let me tell you, sucks to be an actor in an economic downturn. You hear everything from "poor DVD sales are to blame" to "The bond market is making the Studios cautious" as reasons for the dearth of auditions. Would that be the James Bond market, I wonder?... It's such a complex math. There really is no way to predict what will come down the pike. It always comes down to the individual - sometimes you book. Sometimes you don't. The more chances there are the better your odds. You just gotta do your thing.

This reminds of when I went to an anime convention to see Colin Cunningham. Since there weren’t that many Stargate fans there, I got to talk to Colin for half an hour! If only Philly were closer….

Meanwhile, info scanned from various lists.... Apparently none of the Stargate Atlantis actors have any idea what’s going on with the movie (aka, they’ve heard zilch – we probably know more as fans).
Below the cut are links to various live journal entries, blogs, photos and videos (found via Google and other search engines). If you know of any new ones, feel free to add in comments section.
A watershed moment.
Yesterday Craig, Mike, David and I gathered together to watch The Beast of Bottomless Lake for the first time front to back on one piece, properly edited.
There is still a lot of work left to be done, but the perspective has significantly shifted. We now have a 'whole' by which to compare against. It also means that I have been robbed of a stock answer. Almost every day I hear some variation on the declaration 'I can hardly wait to see the film!' to which I regularly quip "Yeah, me too!" Simple, but not without its own subtle wit.

Variety reviews HELEN, a movie that both David Hewlett and David Nykl had parts in.
Snippet from ther eview -- A brave, affecting turn by Ashley Judd cuts through the overall torpor of “Helen,” a somber, elegant psychological case study that will leave auds feeling as gloomy and enervated as the title character. While this first English-language feature by German writer-director Sandra Nettelbeck (“Mostly Martha”) admirably avoids soft-pedaling the unique enigmas and agonies of clinical depression, it can’t overcome its own self-imposed limitations -- namely, catatonic pacing and a dramatically narrow outsider’s view of mental illness. The pic has its merits as an educational tool but is much too bleak to connect with a larger audience.
Anyway, David Nykl talked about it at the November '08 Stargate Atlantis convention. Here's an excerpt from an earlier LJ entry (full link at http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/267074.html ). Ask about his missing scene in “The Shrine” and if he had any David Hewlett stories, as Kavan had some great ones. “Have I got stories about David Hewlett!” he laughed. We told him about complaining about anything. “Oh, those stories? Okay, how much time do we have? .. Okay, let’s set the record straight. David Hewlett is a great guy but I can’t shake him. I mean he follows me everywhere I go. I was cast in a film last season, called ‘Helen,’ and the next day I got an email, ‘oh you’re in a movie with David Hewlett.’ And I’m like ‘What?”’ so he went to IMDB to check it out. “Stay away from my career!”
There's another review of the movie at
