Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock won't air on PBS till this coming Sunday so I'm sticking my fingers in my ears. No spoilers. LALALALALALLAA!

There's still nothing that grabs me fannishly like Stargate Atlantis did, although Sherlock comes close. I do watch CBS's Elementary and it's good and entertaining. Big Bang Theory is still the only comedy I watch - love all the sci-fi in-jokes. Why couldn't they have had something like that when I was a kid?

Let' see, what else?

I watch Almost Human - it's the only decent cop-buddy show on the air. It's pretty simple at times, but I do like the characters. Now Sleepy Hollow... yeah, I could listen to Tom Mison read the phonebook. He's great as Ichabod and thus far, they're doing excellent with Ichabod's view of present day America (why do you not drink the water from the lake? uh yeah, sure, parasites, pollution, you name it!) ;) Being Human has returned but it's against Sleepy Hollow, so I watch that show until it goes into repeats and will hopefully catch Being Human (which amazingly follows Almost Human, so surely we must get another show with Human in the title and a "C" word in front) in repeats on cable rewind.

Still watch NCIS, but since it repeats left and right, it's not must-see TV. I watchted the first Intelligence on CBS, tried the first couple minutes of next episode, then bailed. Nah. I definitely stay up to watch Person of Interest, which has major cast changes with the death of one character, with Reese trying to just leave it all behind (which may get some resolution in tonight's Reese-on-a-plane episode). I can't think of anything I really watch on Wednesday nights anymore, unless it's PBS or cable. Oh, I got hooked on the French series, um, American title The Returned, I think, about dead people who suddenly started showing up in a town next to a dam. They're not zombies, per se, they just show up as if nothing happened and have no memories of dying. Everybody is of course creeped out. All subtitled, slow in comparison to US stuff, but loved the music, and it was intriguing.

I watch the pilot for Helix on SyFy and do like it. Don't know if I'll ever think of the song Do you know the way to San Jose? in the same vein ever again. I'll stick with it, I think, because I'm a sucker for lethal virus stuff, although it made me think of a hybrid between the movies Outbreak and World War Z, the latter which I just saw on DVD and when the heroes went to the WHO (World Health Organization) who was one of the doctors at WHO but Doctor Who, the new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi. Neat. Of course I sit there watching Helix with quibbles such as why does a facility in the Arctic have such big wide corridors and how the hell do they heat it and does everybody have huge air ducts like they had in the Seaview?

Otherwise, we had snow, we had ice, we had the 'polar vortex' and temps went below zero Fahrenheit and the car door froze shut on one car and the garage door froze shut and I had to get out the hair dryers to thaw the frigging wheel things on the rail (yes, those technical terms). Wind chill was below zero while shoveling so I had to leave glasses inside, shovel albeit a bit fuzzily, so I could wear a N95 mask on my face to I didn't freeze off my nose and lips. Yeah, THAT cold. I had to shovel the driveway, and then when I finally get to the end, the road isn't plowed, so had to wait for them to go by as yeah, I went to work.

Meanwhile.... )

My post before this was about new shows on network, as i poked through the TV Guide. I neglected returning shows and other channels.

Returning shows. I'll watch the CSIs, although Miami is an, 'eh' cuz I think something else will be against it. Oh yeah. DURHAM COUNTY. Hugh Dillon vs. David Caruso. Sorry, Dave...

Ah, smacks self with dead trout. I will continue watching BIG BANG THEORY, but wish they'd left it on earlier in the evening. The guys are coming back from the North Pole. This should be fun.

NCIS. Of course! :)

Damn, can't remember what else is on. Yeah, TV is that exciting. Maybe they'll do a series 2 of MONSTERS INSIDE ME about parasites. That was fun. Really, it was. very interesting, although you'd never want to step outside your door again after watching it ;)

And then there's Stargate Universe....

The fall TV Guide arrived today, and at first I thought, a clothing catalog, as well, it's just so, gah, BLAND! I mean, it reminds me of what they did to the local supermarket's flyer that falls out of the newspaper.

Anyway, it's just pale, and again, all the photos are basically the same, so the spread for "Melrose Place" doesn't seem much different for ABC's remake of "V", which I totally missed the first time as really, where are the lizards, the aliens? Why is everyone standing around a swimming pool in formal wear???

I yawn as I flip past vampire shows. We're going to be buried in them. Yes, bad pun ;)

Okay, let's zip through the guide...

Well, the odds are stacked against him ;) Ben Cotton, who played Kavanagh, probably the most reviled character on Stargate Atlantis, is in the cast of CBS's limited run series HARPER'S ISLAND. Anybody who has seen the ads knows that someone dies in every episode. He didn't die in the pilot, so he should be in the second episode. He plays Shane, the Townie.

Just listing these articles cuz, well, they're there! ;)

Apocalypse Now - which has nothing to do with the movie but all to do with Supernatural ... excerpt: Then you notice the boys, Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) – "...the first with floppy hair and puppy-dog eyes, the second a hardened soul with rugged features and a too-smart mouth." A fun article.

A fun interview with Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, dispelling rumors stated as fact on fan web sites.

An interview with Canadian actor Colm Feore, who I first saw on Due South and he's done a ton of other stuff. Excellent performer.

Oooh.

Variety reports today that the A-Team movie is going ahead, but “Fox has struggled to find a way to exploit the branded TV show while avoiding the series' campy tone”. But… but… but that’s what made the show so appealing! The campy, cheesiness of it all! Also, “Carnahan and the Scott brothers say they will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.  The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.” That all makes sense, since if they were Viet Vets, they’d be using AARP to cover their medical bills ;)  But visions of the travesty that was “Miami Vice” still dance in my head. I just wish folks would stop re-imagining (their weasel word for ‘duh, let’s just redo this thing as it worked well two decades ago cuz we can’t think up original ideas’) tv shows into movies.

Wait, wait, I have an idea. ABC is resurrecting “V”, and now Fox is talking A-Team as a movie. Let’s do a TV movie – “The V Team”! Yes, it’s all about a bunch of aliens on another world who have survived some dreadful war, come back home, find metal munching moon mice have devoured their homes and bank accounts, so now travel the planet in a souped-up Winnebago-type vehicle, helping the downtrodden with whatever their problem is. Since the Stargate Atlantis cast is free, I vote that Joe Flanigan play the lead alien, Jason Momoa can be his sidekick (with more dialogue than in SGA), David Hewlett can play the slightly unstable character (since Hewlett can do that soooo well) and Rachel Luttrell can play the real brains behind the team ;)

Yeah, it was a boring day, stuck at work, snow, sleet, rain, now a yard of growing slush…  Hmm, maybe this is how people in Hollywood get ideas for shows??? ;)

wraithfodder: (invader zim)
Oh, I cannot stop myself from commenting on this ;)

Ooookay. Sorry to say but I am skeptical of all remakes. Only 1% seem to do well, and the rest are just dreadfu (i.e., Knight Rider). Oddly enough, it’s ABC that’s resurrecting NBC’s scifi seriers “V”. Now, the miniseries “V” was great; the series though died a prolonged and painful death that was far too long in coming. First, they got rid of Ham (Michael Ironside) – best character the show had. They had the miracle-gro baby who turned into a blonde babe, and let’s all try to forget the Charles-Diana reptilian wedding. Gah…if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you are soooo lucky,

Anyhoo, Variety (at http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117999086.html?categoryid=14&cs=1) reports that ABC has greenlit a pilot for a reworking (which in this case, could probably only help) of the miniseries. What does look good is that “New adaptation of the franchise was written by "The 4400" co-creator/exec producer Scott Peters.” I loved 4400; hopefully the same feel can translate over to V. Meanwhile, quibbling a little over “The new "V" centers on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them -- causing tension within the family.” Cuz don’t we have enough aimless kids on TV already?? But really, paranoia should reign with “Like the original, show centers on visitors who say they've come to help the Earth -- but their motives are nefarious.” I mean who has not seen the Twlight Zone episode of “To Serve Man’?? Anyway, I just look at this and go, hmm, maybe. And think. Whoa, Joe Flanigan isn’t working at the moment. He’d be great (sure, I’m biased, but he’s working sci-fi now and knows the ropes – and “Vegas” shows he can do cop stuff too!) Or Joel Gresch. He was great on The 4400, or better yet, both of them. Yeah, I'd love to see both of them in the same show again.

Someone posted this link on their LJ - http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117998604.html?categoryid=3521&cs=1# -

"We want people to come to this who've never heard of 'Battlestar Galactica,' " explains Sci Fi prexy Dave Howe, whose network has ordered 20 hours of the new series. "I think there was a barrier to entry for some viewers (for 'Galactica'), since it had the backdrop of space and spaceships."

Moore concurs, saying "We had viewers say that if they were able to trick their wives or girlfriends into watching 'Galactica,' they loved it."

But with the name "Battlestar Galactica" "screaming science fiction," he adds, "there was just such a high hurdle to get female viewers to even try it."

Did they think that women didn't watch scifi? Do they not realize how many women do watch scifi? I mean, gah, go to a convention sometime! And Stargate Atlantis and SG-1 seem to have lots of female fans. Maybe they just didn't, er, like BSG? Good grief, if space and spaceships were a 'barrier', then why did Star Trek succeed so well? Hmm...

Meanwhile, I have this feeling they will somehow tag-team Caprica with Stargate Universe after reading about Carpica... "You can just feel it running out of control, with its youth culture and its moral choices. There's doom in the air, but not doom in terms of the human spirit," Moore says.

Eh, kevetching done ;)

Yes, couches DO eat things. I was looking high and low for a small LED flashlight I'd gotten a while back. So, decided to take apart the couch (since it was messy from cat, dog, etc. being all over it) and lo and behold, the flashlight! Yes!

Meanwhile, thanks to MoRyan over the Chicago Tribune... In the Christmas episode of CBS' Big Bang Theory, Sheldon was bestowed with a dirty napkin - but it had been autographed by Leonard Nimoy. Visit http://trekmovie.com/2009/01/23/big-bang-theory-nimoy-napkin-auctioned-off-this-weekend/ for the full details, pictures and videos. The video of Sheldon realizing just what he has is priceless beyond belief. Anyway, the actual napkin (which Nimoy really signed) is now up for charity auction. You can view th4e vid below too.

And does your car, uh, cough, 'put out'? It does if you read the instructions for this car at http://twitpic.com/16c6j. Thanks to the Wailing list twitter for that gem :)

Ouch. Just read on Broadcasting & Cable that General Electric posted a 44% drop in 4Q results (which is better than some). GE is the parent of NBC Universal, and in turn, Sci Fi Channel is owned in there somewhere...

And, Stargate Universe spoilers, so they're under the cut in case you don't want spoilers...

wraithfodder: (Teyla - my eyes)
Ack! I made the mistake of switching the channel to NBC and I went oh, "Knight Rider." I can let that play while I tread on the treadmill.

Pros - lead actor is cute

Cons - lead actor can't act that well, nor can the rest, and I just went ARGH! when the KARR (sp?) turned into an evil Transformer like car. No wait, I went ARGH! when Michael, to a hard rock soundtrack, gunned down several people with one shot of the shotgun.

Now NBC makes this dreck available online to watch, but SciFi can't make Stargate Atlantis available online to watch. Grrrr...
wraithfodder: (McKay-this is cool)
Since I had the day off, and it was snowing, and the roads were slick, I stayed home and tossed food on and off to the birds, and went through a stack of TV Guides and Entertainment Weeklys that had accumulated on a chair (to one of those dangerous stacks that if it falls, could sever a toe, or at least mash it). Anyway, found out there is an animated series called Penguins of Madagascar (yes, from the Madagascar movies) coming up. It premieres in March on the Nickelodeon channel. And Christopher Gorham (whose character Henry once dated Betty on Ugly Betty) will have his own show called Harper’s Island which debuts on CBS on April 9th. Regrettably, most of the cast is young and will be bumped off when the series concludes when the 13 episodes run out. It’s about young people at a weeklong wedding party in which people get bumped off by a serial killer. Guess someone was pissed off about not getting an invite. Think the most interesting looking one is Castle (debuts March 9th on ABC) which stars Firefly’s Nathan Fillion, about an author whose murder books are being copied by a real life murderer. And Cupid is being redone over at ABC, and my hope is that with that being redone, they’ll repeat the original one with Jeremy Piven, but most importantly, with Joe Flanigan! Otherwise the first quarter season (no other way to describe it these days) looks, eh, meh, nothing too exciting.

But best yet, got into a cleaning mood, which also included the computer, and I went, hmm, what’s this folder marked “SGA stories to read.” The motherlode! I’d saved a bunch of Shep whump stories onto the hard drive and hadn’t read them yet. Yes, Stargate Atlantis still lives! Well, at least in fanfic. I also found another folder full of LJ stories I’d just saved the story off, to read/print later and comment on. Oh, have lots of feedback to leave.

Meanwhile, Flashpoint seems to be doing pretty good. The CTV ratings were the highest ever. Full article at Canada Newswire. The better the rating on both sides of the border, the more chance of a third season and ooh, maybe DVD sets!

And I mostly spent the weekend shoveling the driveway. Was out at midnight last night. Dog insisted on going out, so I brushed aside one spot, then just kept going. And did it again tonight when it got dark. It seems easier when it’s dark, because maybe I just don’t see HOW much snow I really have to shovel!

wraithfodder: (Jeannie-Sheppard)

Think I'll finally realize Stargate Atlantis is toast, dead, gone, only on DVD, when Friday rolls around and I don't have to decide which to watch: SGA or Flashpoint. Now, I can watch Flashpoint with no problem, as Friday's no longer has anything on Sci Fi worth watching (I tried Battlestar Galactica several tilmes, but eh, just doesn't click. Maybe when it's done and over and I can just rent the DVDs and do marathons...) Anyway, in fact, there's not much on SciFi to watch. Period. Maybe a tacky, crappy scifi/horror/pitiful CGI monster flick if an actor I like shows up in one...

Anyway, was thinking, gee, what is on TV nowadays...
Monday... Big Bang Theory. A total hoot. David Hewlett must guest star in it. He must! He's the ultilmate geek character. Still watch CSI: Miami, probably in the way a person drives by a car wreck and gawks.
Tuesday: NCIS, Mentalist, Law & Order SVU (the latter if I bother to stay up late - it syndicates to much I can catch it anyway)
WednesdayCriminal Minds, here and there, and CSI: NY, which is now the best of the CSI
ThursdayUgly Betty, cuz it's cute; CSI (until it ends) and Eleventh Hour, which is turning out better than I thought it would, although I must remember to watch the very very last ER whenever that airs.
Friday: Oh hey, I can just wallow in Ghost Whisperer, delight in Flashpoint (wonder if it will become a cult hilt like Due South did years ago?), and then maybe flick over to Psych.
Saturday: Catch repeats of anything I didn't see, as Saturday is now rerun-alley on all the channels, I swear.
Sunday: There's something on TV on Sunday??

So, no new fandoms really, but I am enjoying Flashpoint just on its own merits. It's a cop show, there's a buddy aspect to it, Hugh Dillon is fantastic in it, Stargate Atlantis/SG1 actors have shown up in (Alisen Down, once on Mysterious Ways and as Dr. Brightman on an SG-1 ep, is on this week's episode as a hostage). I must admit I also like the fact that at least you know who the good guys are. So many shows now are so 'gray' - good guys torturing people, etc. that, well, I want one nice bit of fantasy. And hey, the Toronto locales, etc. and the cast, sure aren't hard to look at either ;)

Oh, took the plunge and pre-ordered the series 3 Stargate Atlantis Action Figures (with Ronon, another Sheppard, Carter, Teyla and a Wraith drone). Once they come, I can gear up on Action Figure Theater. Must also remember to find some cheap railroad tracks *evil cackle*

A Saskatchewan Screamer is headed this way. Apparently, according to a weather guy on TV, they name the Arctic blasts out of Canada according to which province they come from. Wonder what other names they've thought up? Anyway, it's down to single digits on Friday, and that's the static temp, before windchill kicks in. Must remember to toss out extra birdseed, etc. this week for the poor critters.

Hmm, can wild animals eat marshmallows?

Oh yeah, and I got my tickets for Comic Con! (February7th, the NYC one- wish I could afford the San Diego one!) Anyone else going to the NYC one?

wraithfodder: (flashpoint)
Oooh, something to look forward to. First, FLASHPOINT's second season debuts this coming Friday - okay, it's against Stargate Atlantis but that's what the VCR is for (Flashpoint, that is. DVR is for SGA!). But just read at TVWeek.com that Hugh Dillon's Global series Durham County has been picked up by ION Television. The article said “Durham County” is produced by Back Alley Films and Muse Entertainment. It stars “Flashpoint’s” Hugh Dillon as a homicide detective. “‘Durham County’ brings award-winning suspense, storytelling and casting to Ion’s first foray into 2009 original programming,” Brandon Burgess, chairman and CEO of Ion Media Networks, said in a statement. “With eerie crime storylines, ‘Durham County,’ along with the CBS hit show ‘Criminal Minds,’ will offer 'Positively Thrilling' primetime appointment viewing on Ion Television.”

Cool.
wraithfodder: (Teyla - my eyes)

No no no no. Can't be. They remade that 70s sclock flick "My Bloody Valentine" (only this time in 3-D, and gah, I still remember Jaws 3 in 3-D and it was AWFUL). Anyway, I stared mindlessly at the ad going, should I really go, I mean, Jensen Ackles from Superantural is in it. I think he's the hero so he'll survive....

Of course, this movie might be great, but well, nah, it won't even get to my neck of the woods as 'teens-in-trouble-with-zombie-slasher' flicks just never make it here.

wraithfodder: (McKay-this is cool)
I *loved* this ad when it first aired, and now found it on YouTube. Won't say what it's for but you'll find out!

wraithfodder: (Brain)
It's bad enough Wall Street has ruined everyone's finances through greed and stupidity, and Stargate Atlantis got axed, but now.... NASA reports Dec. 16, 2008: NASA's five THEMIS spacecraft have discovered a breach in Earth's magnetic field ten times larger than anything previously thought to exist. Solar wind can flow in through the opening to "load up" the magnetosphere for powerful geomagnetic storms. But the breach itself is not the biggest surprise. Researchers are even more amazed at the strange and unexpected way it forms, overturning long-held ideas of space physics. REST AT LINK ABOVE. It's a really interesting article.

But anyhoo, back to stuff we mere mortals can do something about. Yes, after eons of waiting (months?) fans can never get their grubby paws on Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long - on DVD. Yes, read TV Week.com's review of the DVD, and you can order it for the outlandish price ;) of $9.99 exclusively at Amazon. Since it's released on the 19th (this Friday), it's possibel I suppose to have it in your mitts before Xmas? And, for the local and sturdy folk, since the weather prediction is sleet, visit the Paley Center in NYC for an actual sing-a-long. Click on link for details :)

The Glaswegian will lead a motley crew on a voyage across the universe in a new sci-fi series based on the hit Stargate movie and TV franchise.

That move will pave the way for a rival to take control of the Tardis when the next Doctor is announced later this week

Cool. Yes! We hear who the new Doctor Who will be this week? However, I do suspect I'll go "who?" (bad pun) as it will no doubt be an actor from the UK and since not a lot of UK stuff gets to the States except for PBS "Inspector Lynley" stuff, I'll have to research him. Her? Who?

First, just read on a trade magazine that SciFi (aka Skiffy) is spinning off Ghost Hunters: The College Edition. Yes! We can now have a bunch of college students, who probably should be studying for future employment (unless of course, they're majoring in finance, and well, that market is toast). Sigh, just how many 'ghost hunting' shows do we need??

Oh, and ER may get extended to 22 episodes instead of 19 episodes for its final season.

Oh, oh, LiveJournal entry recommendation!  Check out forhttp://shaddyr.livejournal.com/221377.html for a fun action figure story featuring Sheppard and McKay visiting Bridge Studios!

Gah, the cat just chewed a hole in his butt again (anal glands). This has happened a few times before and if it doesn't heal up by the weekend, it's off to the vet to get pills he hates. But 9 times out of 10, it seems to heal okay on its own. Oh wait, was that too much information? The joys of a being a cat owner.. Also had to mow part of the lawn to get rid of the leaves, and noticed, oh, Zombie Bambi's remains are still on the log pile. Thinking of perhaps using the skull for a Halloween door decoration...

And finally signed up to do the New Jersey Creation Con (Cherry Hill, NJ, Nov 7-9) Stargate convention (David Nykl, Jason Momoa, Kavan Smith and others and I could so hope they sign up someone else like Joe or David, but probably not). Anyway, big chunk of change but figure, my last hurrah con-wise as I don't see doing much next year since I must replace the aging duct-taped car...

A woman in Tokyo, who was divorced by her husband without her knowledge, got totally pissed and then went and killed her husband, and the police arrested her! I mean, really? Why? You see, she didn't kill her actual husband, in fact, she killed an avatar in an online game and they arrested her (the guy who made that avatar complained to the cops, who busted her and took her 620 miles to another jail!). Aieee, weird. They're charging her with hacking or something. Wow, those online games are *tough*.

And then there's William Shatner's YouTube video ranting on about George Takei. Aieee....

I really did. I watched the whole episode of Knight Rider. Okay, well, not all of it. Um, um, er, at one point I realized, oh I have to wash the dinner dishes, so yes, I ditched Kitt for dirty dishes. Whoa.... and it's probably a name name of some sort, but the voice for Kitt just puts me to sleep. Such a drab monotone as though some is narrating a boring book and falling asleep themselves. Alas, the plot was dull, the acting so-so, and well, unless a guest star I really want to see shows up, this show is off my roster of watching....

WTF?

MGM/SciFi/NBCU, whatver, pulled the plug on Stargate Atlantis, yet they *renewed* the drivel that is known as Knight Rider? Okay, it's just nine episodes, but even 9 minutes more of KR is too much!

Okay, that's one sign of the impending apocalypse, I suppose...

It is soooo good to be a packrat, not to mention a fan of early Canadian crime dramas, as all I had to do was dig into my boxes in the closet to find David Hewlett's 1987 appearance in the Canadian show Night Heat (starring Scott Hylands, who has appeared on Stargate SG-1, by the way). Anyway, David plays a male prostitute on the streets of Toronto.

Yes, I made a short video of David Hewlett from his appearance in the 1992 episode "Dead Air" of the fun vampire series, Forever Knight (starring Geraint Wyn Davis). Anyway, he plays an escaped psychiatric patient who is well, unbalanced, and wants to kill off the radio host/psychologist. Nick Knight rides to the rescue, and well, let's just say David sure can scream ;)

Copy quality is grainy - 6 hour VHS, digital camera pointed at tv, you know, primitive but effective...

Next up, his role as a male prostitute (oh, what gems these old videotapes hold!) ;)

Just some observations in watching some rather old VHS tapes (yes, some of us still have uh, *cough*, far too many).

I dare say, I think the evil incarnation of Knight RIder is toast...

Variety today reviewed KNIGHT RIDER. The review, I feel, is probably the best thing about the series! Read it and laugh J

The "Knight Rider" revival movie set the bar low in terms of expectations, and damned if the series premiere still doesn't go skidding under it. Frankly, this convoluted hour sent me scurrying to NBC's website looking for clarification about the plot, but -- whew, what a relief -- there really isn't much of one. As constituted the program does have a decidedly retro flair, existing largely to push Ford cars (which could use the push), while stripping its characters down to underwear and skin-tight tops at every turn. As strategies go, this one could use a lube job.

Those with time to kill or a masochistic tendency can read the full review at http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117938461.html?categoryid=31&cs=1

Meanwhile, apparently the ratings tanked, "stalling" , with a 2.4 rating/7 share, which apparently is not good. I'm sure once this junker is taken off the scrapyard, we'll get repeats of a reality show though. But, oh, Criminal Minds was a blast (literally).

Okay, it's not nice to chortle over the demise of a TV show, but, really, what were they thinking? it's nothing like the original show. Why not just write something original? Oh wait, this is Hollywood. Originality doesn't really exist out there :(

Well, I got my TV Guides, have been innundated with ads, and...

My opinion of new fall TV season )

For Canuck fans.... did FLAHSPOINT air last night on CTV? It didn't air here, due to the Democratic convention, and I'm hoping I didn't miss an episode...

NOTE: Thanks! Question answered :)
