I'd love to do three days, but figure it might kill me ;) Did both Friday and Saturday at New York Comic Con (#NYCC) and it was a blast. However, getting up at 5:00am each day, to pick up friend, then go to train station and not getting home till 10:00pm was tiring. However, it's now  physically impossible to do the convention in one day. It's just too big! So, the first day I did the dealer's room, plus the "Elementary" panel, where they showed the first episode of the new season, which culminated with Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu, a new cast member and production person (name is blanking!) all talking, then doing a Q&A until the stupid microphone died. Bummer. but the production person finished answering the question by gesturing wildly as he answered the question. It was funny.

The dealers room was just enormous. I took a bunch of photos of things I wanted, and things I wanted to go back and get, which I did: some soap brains, some t-shirts, fridge magnets but overall, not a lot, as my budget was limited. I saw a gorgeous Godzilla model, chained to its podium (darn) which glowed orange. I don't even want to know how much that sucker cost. Godzillas seem to go up in price all the time. I also went to the autographing area, just to look - too pricey for my tastes, and then over to Artists Alley, which had the emptiest bathrooms I saw (some just had lines that never seemed to end).

The costumes ranged from so-so to simply incredible. My favorites were the robot made out of a styrofoam coolers. Very imaginative and whoever was inside took their role to heart and had skillful robot moves. There was a Batman with a wingspan that just spread out forever, a David Tennant doppelganger. I swear, it was him. I do. My friend and i joked that if I followed him around trying to figure out if it was HIM I'd be booted from the con for harrassment ;) But wow, yeah, he looked like the real deal. Meanwhile, George Clooney showed up - on Thursday, when I was theren't. Didn't see the "Walking Dead" folk, but this year the con emptied the IGN theater after each panel, so if you wanted to attend a panel, you went to the cattle pen, er, big hall where everybody queues up to get into the con, get a wristband, then go off and enjoy the con. I'm sure some WD fen opted to sit on the concrete from 10am to 3:30pm to get that front row seat ;)  I remember one costume, some guy with a shield on his arm, and apparently everytime he went to gesture at someone, he'd raised the shield. I nearly got nailed but scooted around and I heard his friend say "You're gonna kill someone doing that!" or words to that effect. I dodged shields, feathered wings and other cosplay bits and pieces all day long.

And here is my collection (600+ pictures) in two albums. Enjoy! https://www.flickr.com/photos/10668630@N06/sets/

I took a lot of photos, but mostly of the wares on sale and then costumes. I realized that Flickr is full of costume photos and if you go to http://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi (aka Google, then Images) and search for New  York Comic Con 2012 or NY Comic Con 2012, you will find a LOT of photos.  Here's a big selection of the costumes - http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/10/new_york_comic_2.html.

Here are some of mine.

I made it to New York Comic Con for Saturday, which of course, was the most jam-packed day of the weekend (at least I'm sure - read that 106,000 fans attended and I'm sure most were there Saturday!). My friend Dawn and I went in very early - had to wake up at 4 a.m., then drive to her place, pick her up and we caught a 6ish train into NYC. There was that side trip to Dunkin Donuts of course as I needed caffeine and sugar to keep me awake. Fortunately NYCC supplies a shuttle bus between Grand Central and Jacob Javitts Center. One year it was obvious - ads on the side. This year, alas, just a piece of paper in window signifying it was the shuttle bus. Once we got there, we had to go to the blue entrance, where the press, exhibitors and any handicapped folk went. Since Dawn was using a walker, she qualifed and I was her helper. I noticed several chilly anime fans on the way to that door. Chilly not in attitude, but in they looked half-frozen as this was the coldest day of the Fall and some anime outfits are, um, skimpy. So we were hanging around with several dozen other fans, while the horrendous throngs of fans were at the other door, and there were probably lots of freezing zombies as The Walking Dead is a very popular fandom.

My goals at the con were to see the Person of Interest panel, get to the Person of Interest signing, see part of the Haven panel as I had to leave it early to get to the POI signing, and hopefully buy something in the massive dealers room. I didn't see the germ keychains I got last year, so will check online as I wanted a MRSA one. Worrywoos weren't selling at the con this year, but they're online. Didn't see any Godzillas that screamed BUY ME! but did get a great t-shirt of an adult teaching a trio of little Daleks how to exterminate humans. Adorable! I saw lots of Doctor Who stuff but didn't need it and as often happens at cons, it's a tad bit overpriced as well.

At 10 a.m., I went to the IGN theater., which holds a LOT -for the Haven panel. It was half full, and at least 1/3 was there for the 5pm Walking Dead panel. The con doesn't empty rooms between sessions. Sigh.  I stayed about 30-45 minutes and the cast was entertaining. Emily Rose (@EmilyRoseLA), Eric Balfour (@ERICBALFOUR) and Lucas Bryant (not on Twitter) were there, and the chemistry definitely shone. Another new cast member was there - a former wrestler - and my brain has forgotten his name. They talked spoilers and episodes I haven't seen, but fortunately I have forgotten then. I have to catch up.

Haven booth in main dealer's room, before the hordes descended.

First, you can send a Valentine on your favorite CBS show at http://www.fridaynightlove.com/ - Flashpoint or Numb3rs.  Here's one of the Flashpoint ones. Okay, I find sending Valentine cards with guys with guns in the pictures to be ... odd... but hey, I'll take the photos :)

Also, Chicago Tribune entertainment columnist Maureen Ryan pointed out this hysterical video of Darth Vader and a bunch of stormtroopers dancing to Michael Jackson's THRILLER (at the 3 minute mark) at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkTQwP2gFxU  I had no idea they had Star Wars dance-offs. So much more fun than Dancing with the Stars!

Remember I said Comic Con was crowded? You can see a picture from above of the seething hordes ;) at http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2009-02-08-comic-con_N.htm

NYCC Report )
wraithfodder: (Hot guys)
Ah, finally, a tiny link to Stargate SG-1, though not Atllantis, at the New York Comic Con. Sean Patrick Flannery (aka Orlin the alien in SG-1) is going to be there promoting The Boondocks Saints, a movie that has been out a while and now has a sequel coming out. Never heard of it myself, but apparently he and another actor from the show will be a booth doing a signing, so I'll try to be there, and try to see Seth Green do his Robot Chicken panel, and the Dead Like Me people are there for their new movie, and Torchwood. I've never seen it, but am darned curious. Oh yeah, and Jared Padalecki  (from CW's Supernatural) will there promoting the Friday the 13th movie. I'm willing to bet he will be MOBBED by teenage girls!

and in between trying to see those panels, I must criss-cross the entire Jacob Javits Center dealer's room full of stuff I surely don't need but will want, especially if I see any Stargate Atlantis goodies, or cute little Godzillas, or some other knickknacks that fits  my budget.

Anybody else going Saturday??
wraithfodder: (Default)
Ah, it would be nice to see some Stargate presence at the NY Comic Con....

However, Milo Ventimiglia, from HEROES, will be there! As will the cast of Fox's FRINGE! Too bad neither show really interests me, but I may check out their panels if I can find out where the rooms are this year ;) And J. Michael Straczynski from Babylon 5 will be there, too. However Seth Green will be there and I saw five minutes of ROBOT CHICKEN and laughed myself silly.

Unfortunately, Diamond Select Toys has again pushed back the release date for the series 3 Stargate Atlantis action figures until mid-February. Darn! Did I whine about this already? Hmm... anyway, was hoping to pick up a spare Ronon so I could beat one up in action figure theater.

Anywhere, there is a great blog that posts stuff on the con at http://www.mediumatlarge.net. Regrettably, it's where I found this video that is either really cute or makes you want to confess your bank account number if forced to watch repeatedly ;)

Listed below the cut are all the links I’ve culled, so far, on Stargate Atlantis’ presence at Comic-Con. I did this last year, so figured, might as well it again since I’m searching for the stuff for myself J

There are some SG1/Continuum links as well, as the press covered it more than SGA (darn darn darn). Mind you, this list isn’t everything as stuff pops up on the web all the time, and wait, the con isn’t even over yet, so folks still have to post photos (we can hope). Anyway, here’s the start.

has an interview with Amanda Tapping. She talks about Stargate Atlantis, SG-1 and the movies. Excerpt: MS: You just made the big switch from "Stargate SG1" to "Stargate Atlantis" this season; how is the feel of working on Atlantis as opposed to your time on SG-1? AT: Honestly, it's different. It's very different. I think that with the SG1 cast, we didn't act as seriously because we had been together so long. There was a lot of laughter and a kind of goofiness. It should be illegal how much fun we have... and get paid for doing it. With Atlantis it's fun. It's a different vibe. It's a little more serious. I still love going to work everyday. It's been so welcoming and its been very nice. It still feels different, but maybe that's because my character is in a different position so I have to sort of "step it up a bit". It feels like I'm playing a different character in some ways. I feel a little like a fish out of water.

wraithfodder: (Shep-awesome)

http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6465556.htm, journalist Mary McNamara reported… The Battlestar and Stargate events, held in Ballroom 20, were convention highlights. Sci Fi touted the women of Battlestar. The line for the panel snaked a quarter mile through the convention hallways and out onto a hot, sunny patio. Hundreds baked in the sun; thousands, apparently, were turned away. … The Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis panels were raucous, moderated by Gary Jones, a Toronto Second City improv vet who plays the beloved “GateGuy” (Chief Master Sgt. Walter Harriman) on SG-1. No such event would be complete without a fan protest. When an audience member asked the Stargate producers “what they have against doctors,” the 4,500-strong crowd roared and hundreds of little Scottish flags fluttered in the air. Earlier, a fan named Michelle from San Francisco had distributed the keepsakes in support of returning Dr. Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion) to the Atlantis cast. The character, a Scot and a medical doctor, was killed off last season. The producers tried to deflect the issue with humor. “It’s not doctors we have a problem with,” executive producer Robert Cooper quipped. “It’s Scottish people.” Atlantis showrunner Joe Mallozzi assured the crowd he loved Scottish people and instructed them to redirect their “hate e-mail to Rob Cooper. My inbox is full.” Later, in the hallways, fans dressed in kilts played a dirge on bagpipes.  And check out the Dead Like Me article for a link to pictures of the Stargate SG1/Atlantis buses at http://m2tv.typepad.com/photos/mgm_buses/index.html

One excerpt: I was determined to get my TV geek on and get a good seat at the "Stargate SG-1" panel, where there was exclusive footage of their straight-to-DVD movies coming out next year. I got a good seat -- well, decent, actually. I was over an hour early in an auditorium that seats 5,000, and about a third was already filled when I got there. It was packed by the time the cast arrived.  More at link above.

Meanwhile, Gateworld is reporting Stargate Atlantis will air at 10:00 pm. If so, why has the station spent probably hundreds of thousands of dollars on TV ads that say "9:00 pm"??? Yes, Skiffy's Schedulebot shows the 10:00pm slot, but they've goofed before.... so, I'll stick with 9:00 p.m. as long as the ads say it. If the schedulebot is correct, they'd better correct their ads or else they'll have a lot of people going "WTF?" when they tune it at 9pm and get Flash Gordon (which, to me, doesn't look all that enticing but I'll try out the first episode). Personally, I'd refer the 9pm slot so I can just turn off the tube at 10... ;)

Aieee. I thought the Arctic was nobody’s land (well, they’re trying to extend their ‘shelf’ so they can drill the hell out of it. I say we should ban SUVs and all drive little cars…) and http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22154111-30417,00.html reports

http://jadexanadu.livejournal.com/1572.htmlStargate/Stargate Atlantis:  These panels were back to back, and are always fun to attend.  They playfulness of the panelists with each other and the audience is always great.  Though, they aren't big on giving out information.  They run a trailer at the beginning of the panel, and then just jump into questions from the audience.  I was 15 minutes late to Stargate SG-1, since it overlapped Shonen Jump, but it apparately started late and I only missed the trailer.  The two direct to DVD movies will be out in the Fall 07 and then Spring 08.  The Atlantis panel was filled with much of the same hi-jinks as SG-1, as half the panelists and most of the audience stayed for it.

http://www.animationmagazine.net/article/7166 - The Hensons offered a first look at Tinsel Town, a new puppet web series about a bull named Samson Knight and a pig named Bobby Vegan, a mismatched gay couple living in Hollywood. The episode was a big hit with the audience and is sure to garner a lot of attention when it hits the web. Also drawing uproarious applause was a surprise appearance by Farscape star Ben Browder, who put his hand up a puppet to help out with a live demo of Puppet Up: Uncensored, a live show the Jim Henson Co. puts on monthly in Hollywood.

http://liketheriverrun.livejournal.com/15741.html - has put up second part of CC report (no SG), but also updated part 1 with Stargate Atlantis/SG-1 content to include a video - visit http://liketheriverrun.livejournal.com/15104.html#cutid1

Can't watch the Stargate Atlantis video on SciFi cuz you don't live in the States? http://www.youtube.com/user/ibZippy has put up the panel in pieces (their own version. Not sure if it's all there, but check it out.

http://pics.livejournal.com/quantum_gazebo/gallery/0000txah has put up a picspam (400 shots) from both Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 panels.

More fun stuff, and David Hewlett finally got his blog up on the SciFi site (best post on it, actually).

http://blog.scifi.com/comiccon/ - Comic Con Post Mortem by David Hewlett!  Excerpt: Remember the cantina scene in Star Wars? All those multi-colored, armed and eye'd aliens mixing it up and getting down in outer space. Well, I was there this weekend and by George (Lucas I guess) it's a beautiful place to be. Geek Heaven, here on earth, is a short flight from Vancouver, where we're shooting season four of "Stargate Atlantis" - San Diego Comicon 2007. It's the closest thing in the galaxy to being in that Tatooine bar and I've never felt more at home! AND The highlights for me this year (because as we all know, it's all about me) include being the first geek to get to manhandle my (Rodney McKay) action-figure...a smaller, much fitter and less follicley challenged version of myself with hands cupped for heroism. More at link.

http://corrielle.livejournal.com/71172.html – excerpt: The panel consisted of Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Jewel Staite, Amanda Tapping, and some people from Sci Fi.  It was moderated by (find name), who plays the control officer in SG-1, and is actually a pretty hilarious guy.  I was so pleased to see that all of them appear to be enormous nerds.  Witty, amazing, nerds.  Joe Flannigan is almost as much of a ham as Nathan Fillion, David jokingly pushed the McKay/Carter ship the whole time, and Jewel had one of my favorite answers of the whole panel.

http://rennwench.livejournal.com/239618.html
excerpt: Got a handful of Stargate and BSG pins from SciFi….. Apparently there have been so many requests for "Where's Stargate Command" at Chyanne Mountain, that the military folks have painted a door to read "Stargate Command". It opens up to a broom closet. HA! Also, in the filming of "Ark of Truth", the military branches were trying to show each other up in providing stuff for the crew. The Air Force offered F-16 jets, while the Navy had nuclear sub break through the ice, from underneith it!

Yikes, fans do the Stargate Atlantis haircut at the Comic Con booth.!
In looking through Friday’s photos on this site, I now realize why the CC sold out - Jenna Jameson was there.

http://janetharriett.blogspot.com/ - Preview Night Con Blogging.
We're at Comic Con International in San Diego this weekend. Picture cramming the entire population of three good-sized towns into one convention center, and you're getting close. At least three quarters of the 123,000 con attendees have as their sole convention-going purpose to obtain as many freebies as possible. Me, I'm a little more varied in my con interest. Preview night is a three hour rush to see as much of the exhibit hall as possible (by way of comparison, we waited in line for three hours, spanning two buildings, to get into this three hour spree). Some of the highlights: Procuring a free Stargate SG-1 t-shirt within the first two minutes of entering the hall.

http://starmage2.livejournal.com/15117.html – lovely picspam of the cast (Joe, David, Jewel) from Stargate Atlantis at their autograph table (and outside, too!), David Hewlett’s A Dog’s Breakfast table, and Amanda Tapping and Martin Wood at the Sanctuary table.

http://flickr.com/search/?q=stargate&w=13619553%40N00 has shots from both SG1 and SGA panels AND photos of the Stargate SG-2 movie posters for Ark of Truth and Continuum.

And check out http://amandaraesmith.com/gallery/comiccon2007 for a couple hundred photos from the SGA and SG1 panels and Sanctuary signings at Comic-Con.

Ah, there is some stuff still coming out on the con!

http://newtola.blogspot.com/2007/07/comic-con-2007-not-all-geeks.html posts a photo of 'that guy from Stargate Atlantis' - Joe Flanigan posing with his action figure!

http://www.thegeekbeat.com/home/jewel-staite-interview/ talked to Jewel Staite at Comic-Con and has the video online now. She talks about her character (very smart, shy, but "in her element" and "very, very capable." She said about her character replacing Beckett, she said "It felta little awkward at first... I definitely felt new," and explained how the set is like a family but everybody was nice, except David Hewlett, she said amusingly, who teased her a lot. What's been her least favorite moment on Stargate Atlantis - She got the second script and went "oh my god," as there was tons of medical technobabble. More at link above.

http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/9385 has put up the second part of their video of the press conference at Comic-Con. "The second part of our footage from the Stargate celeb panel focuses on the cast and crew present from the longest running sci-fi show in television history, Stargate SG-1. Amanda Tapping talks about the transition from SG-1 to the show's spinoff, Stargate Atlantis. Producer Robert Cooper shares his vision for the future of the franchise, a future that includes Stargate Worlds. Chris Judge (Teal'C) and Ben Browder (Cameron Mitchell) tell of their plans, and Christopher shares a very... special moment with Amanda Tapping. Part 1 (available at http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/9352) covers The crew discusses filming Continuum in the Arctic circle, Stargate Atlantis members discuss Season 3, Jewel Staite on moving from Firefly to Atlantis, and David Hewlett and Martin Wood on what's in store for Stargate Atlantis's fourth season

http://tsaxlady.blogspot.com/ covers Sanctuary.

Okay, a whole of links relating to Comic-Con - with Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 links

Not a Comic-Con panel, but an interview with Torri Higginson from Polaris, which took place over the July 4th timeframe in Toronto.  at http://skyscans.blogspot.com/2007/07/of-klingons-and-quasars_30.html. You can download the 10 minute video from that site. Torri appears at the 8:16 minute mark. Interview is about 2-3 minutes talking about science fiction concepts.

Gonna put all the newly found links, etc. under the cut as I'm posting photos too.

Will stick up the URLs I found this morning before I head off for work ....

http://adventuresinscifipublishing.blogspot.com/2007/07/comic-con-pictures.html has put up some images of each of the SGA actors (Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Jewel Staite, Amanda Tapping

http://blogs.mediavillage.com/sci_fi/archives/2007/07/all_hail_comic.html - Stargate Atlantis was also well represented at the MGM booth with cool flashlight key chains and posters from David Hewlett's movie A Dog's Breakfast. They also handed out Outer Limits mouse pads and posters from the Amanda Tapping's project Sanctuary. Apparently there was a cool fan that spelled out the website name but I never saw it.

http://lilferret.livejournal.com/35852.html has a fan's brief account, photos (one of SG1 tenth anniversary plate).

http://dragontamerno3.livejournal.com/172304.html talks about the free buttons handed out by MGM (which are now on ebay<G>) as well as having SG-1 'tattooed' in their forehead in bright purple. I'm sure it's washable. ;) However, at http://dragontamerno3.livejournal.com/172262.html talks about the autograph line.

Just a note, to find ALL the Comic-Con posts, simply to to the TAGS column at the right, click on COMIC CON and it'll pull up all the posts.

More links

http://www.cynthiaboris.com/blog/?p=396 - has mostly photos, one of Jewel Staite and David Hewlett in front of the SGA poster. Supernatural fans should take a peek, too. This one promises more material later on.

A fan on GW pointed out http://video.syndication.msn.com/v/Legacy.aspx?partner=en-ap&g=67492170-d616-4bc1-ad4b-059d5744610b&f=CADIU, a short video of Amanda Tapping and Ben Browder talking about filming up in the Arctic.

Lastly, Joe Mallozzi put up a new entry at http://josephmallozzi.blogspot.com/2007/07/july-29-2007.html - with exclusive SciFi party photos of Ben Browder, David Hewlett, Chris Judge, Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite.
