I've seen been pointed to a Rob Cooper comment that he made whilst "guest responding" to questions about Doppleganger.

According to RC, Joe Flanigan refused to take off his shirt as he felt it may cause too much squee in the world! :D

Well, sarcastic comment or not, I like this explanation better :D
