The Man from UNCLE DVD set and the new STAR TREK film

Then I read on SciFi that Winona Ryder is gonna be Spock's mom on the new Star Trek film? Huh??? I wasn't even going to bother with the movie until Paul McGillion's name came up in casting, then I was like "yes!" and then he was gone and I was back to "eh, if there's nothing else to do...."  But the casting is weird. Why are they casting Chekov if this movie is in the Academy years? Woudln't Chekov had been a kid? And sorry, but Winona Ryder is no Jane Wyman. She can be a good actress but Spock's mom...?  I liked that Bruce Greenwood joined the cast as Christopher Pike, but still, sounds like a movie I'd catch on a cheap matinee as I suspect it will have little resemblance to the original show.

The more I hear about the new Trek movie, the more I think the franchise has entirely jumped the shark...

Thank goodness for DVDs and DS9 novels to continue some decent ST...

I'm not sure at all waht's going on with the movie. Unless its just post acadamy or something and Chekov is just entering the academy. Uhura and Sulu should be in a earlier year anyway so the whole thing is confusing.

I'm going to watch it for Christopher Pine.

Personally, I can't wait for the MFU DVDs. The extras sound fantastic. David McCallum donated his home movies that he shot on the set. Those alone should be worth it. Now I need an UNCLE icon.

The ST movie sounds like a complete wank. (Excuse the french.) I might just completely ignore it, sort of like Highlander End Game where they killed off Connor McLeod. Didn't see it, didn't happen! :)
