For me once it was revealed that The team were replicators I sort stopped caring about them, waiting for the 'real' team to show up...that is poor writing and pacing issues.

That being said once we DID get them face to face it was a emotive type of episode. It didn't feel like a mid-season closer, so as you said more stand alone material but as I mentioned in my review more a closing the door on one chapter, opening of another.

All set up for the next two action packed eppys.

Funny how all the best parts were scenes other writers added or Joe M added as a side note..(scary) if you read his blog for the blow by blow of the script.

Elizabeth killed off screen? Yikes.

Though I think pieces of the eppy were a stand out, learning about Weir's death. Really liked Repli!John's fear of a relapse of the retrovirus, more continuity..yeah. And he's improved that stick fighting!

The end bits were awesome as was the team dynamic of the whole thing better than a lot of eppys of late.

Ronon just likes to beat up on Sheppard. It’s his hobby. Beat him, stun him… ;) It makes him smile. Scary man.

Laughing at that. Poor Joe F sporting that bruise for half the eppy afterwards.

That being said it was good, not great, better on the re-watch. One of Joe M's better screenplays yet again his original ideas were even worse and the other writers are the ones that added all the great lines.

Much better then Return Part 1!
