From today's New York Times....

Exxon-Mobil  reported Friday that it beat its own record for the highest profits ever recorded by any company, with net income rising 3 percent to $40.6 billion, thanks to surging oil prices. The company’s sales, more than $404 billion, exceeded the gross domestic product of 120 countries.

Exxon Mobil earned more than $1,287 of profit for every second of 2007

Brings a whole new meaning to highway robbery, as I'm payinig $3.30 a gallon, and that's the cheap stuff, that I have to pump myself.

Gnashes teeth.....

Yeah, just ouch...and it makes me wonder how much profit the British arm of these companies make when our fuel is three times what you pay...

I like the Canadian system where the % breakdown for cost/litre is on the pump. And many people in the US don't realize that our federal and state tax is a fixed amount, so when the price goes up, the only thing going up is profit for oil companies, our 'tax' stays the same.

Where I stay, it's £1.03 a LITRE, so basically $2.10 a litre for gas and even dearer for Diesel
