I now a lot of folks were expecting Beckett to be ininstated in the regular cast lineup but I'm afraid I'm cynical enough to think "I'll believe it when I see it," so the announcement didn't surprise me, alas.
Unfortunately, me either. I'm the born cynic when it comes to JM admitting that his Grand Scheme isn't working. The man never admits to making a mistake and his Grand Scheme to shake things up because ratings were slipping (Gee, Sci-fi, it only took you like three years to figure out that the months long breaks between season halves wasn't working!) only resulted in betraying the fan base.
And, what is a show without it's fan base? Sinking fast, I'm afraid...... SGA may pick up some new fans in the fall, but without consistent programming around it, folks may well find something else to watch, and Sci-Fi could then make the choice to not renew for s6 if they have something "better" in the pipes. (It all depends on what the new pres of Skiffy has in mind - that all remains to be seen.)
My wish would be for Brad Wright & Rob Cooper to take back over running SGA, because they seem to not have this "Let's kill off major characters for ratings boost!" ideas that JM & PM do. Oh, to win the lottery & put $$ down the pipeline for that.... *eg*
