Link is a video gane hero, familiar from Nintendo's never-ending line of Zelda games, and Navi is the fairy that accompanies him on some of his adventures. She's tiny and blue and shiny, and has a habit of screeching "HEY, LISTEN," at the most inopportune moments.
The thing about Link is that he can capture other fairies and keep them in bottles, so when he's killed they'll revive him. That's what made my mind go John = Link. Also, John would look stunning in Link's green tunic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:NewLink.png). :P
