While SGA is on hiatus, I'm watching other stuff + some weird news

I swear, I've lost track of what's on TV with the WGA strike, and oddly enough, don't care. TV sure ain't what it used to be. Anyway, I have actually made an effort to watch Fox's NEW AMSTERDAM, with Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who is a refreshing new face on the TV scene. The show reminds me a bit of FOREVER KNIGHT, which I consider to be the best of the vampires in modern day society (with the exception of the pilot movie for NIGHT STALKER which I adored with a vampire running loose in Las Vegas!) . Not sure of NA's ratings, but hope it lasts at least one season.

Let's see. What else? Seems CSI is coming back, but now I'm watching MEDIUM on NBC, so will timeshare CSI: MIAMI on the DVR instead. In the 'that's 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back,' I let THE HILLS HAVE EYES II run while I was busy doing programming for an upcoming con, so it's not like I was actually watching per se, but man, what a wretched waste of film and fake blood. As usual in these pretty much 'who is that?' actor in the lead, you just watch five minutes and go "ah, he'll live, she'll live and the rest will all die HORRIBLY." yup, nailed that one. On the other extreme, I recommend NOTES ON A SCANDAL with Judi Dench. Excellent film about a new young teacher who befriends the older and pretty much friendless teacher, and things go to hell when the younger teacher gets involved with a much younger student. Then I saw HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE, which is a Japanese animated flick with witches and scorers and Christian Bale voices the male protagonist and it's had a better plot than most live action movies. Oh, saw the last hour or so of Mel Gibson's APOLCALYPTO. No matter what you think of the man, the segment of the film I saw was great and I have to find another airing on cable and watch the whole thing. I tried to watch NATIONAL TREASURE last night but couldn't get into it. I tried. Maybe I should borrow a DVD instead.

Oh, there was a GREAT show on Discovery called "Eaten Alive." Came in on ten minutes in. All about parasites in people. The creeping nematode reminded me sooo much of what I did to poor Sheppard in myfanfic "I've Got You Under My Skin." Some of those medical shows are just fascinating, like the "Root Man" show. Whoa, now that was weird, but did you heara bout the two-faced baby born in India? No joke. It was in the news today. The baby has two faces on the head. I'm beginning to think there's a LOT of nasty chemical pollution in India with the weird birth defects that are showing up. I'm watching New Amsterdam too. I'm quite liking it so far.
Hope it survives one season too.

I remembering seeing Apolcalypto at the movies. I thought it was stunning then and I have it in the mail on it's way to me from netflix right now. It's an amazing movie. :)

CSI is coming back this season? Good to know. Thanks for posting this. I was going to look to see if I could find out about this online, but now I can be lazy and not look. I know what you mean about not being up on current tv, though. I haven't been watching as much as I used to.

The only thing I've been watching with any regularity lately is Eli Stone on ABC. It's a new show (Well, newish anyway. I think there's been 6 ot 7 episodes now.) I'm totally loving this show, but I'm afraid it's not going to last. It's rather offbeat and quirky, which I love, but I can see how it might turn some people off. It has drama mixed with quirky humor. The tone of the show reminds me of two of my all time favorite shows, Due South and Northern Exposure.

Okay, I'm done with my sales pitch now. I swear I don't work for ABC. I've just been telling as many people as possible about the show because I want it to last as long as possible. I'm just selfish that way. ;-) LOL

I'm just the opposite, I guess. When they killed off Carson, they pretty much killed off my interest in the SGA. I watched the first few shows of the season and the ones with Carson. That's it this season. I've started watching a few other shows that I've gotten as enthusiastic about as I used to be about SGA. I've been watching Eli Stone, and Chuck and Life are going to be back in the fall.
