Wow, if it wasn’t for Jason doing a commentary, we’d have zip in the actor category. Alas, I still see Amanda as SG1, not SGA. Fortunately I’m not a massive ‘commentary’ fan or else I’d be tearing my hair out.

Crap! I guess its better than no actors doing commentaries?

Yeah. I'm starting to think they should hand the actors some tape recorders and say, watch it at home with the family and send us a tape! ;)

I miss the actor's commentaries, this sucks!!
I just hope that the people that DO the comenteries are entertaining, the guy who commented...I think it was epiphany, was awefull!!! almost went into a coma it was SO BORING!

I can't wait to get the new DVD's I love season4

Although I'm disappointed none of the main cast are doing commentaries, I *am* excited to get nice clean copies of season 4 :)

That's so disappointing. I'm not that big a commentary fan, but I love commentary with DH and JF, especially David. *is crushed* I thought I read something a while back where both he and Flanigan were in for commentary, but I don't remember.

Well, deleted scenes and bloopers are something I've wanted to see for quite a while, so that's good.

Yup. Maybe for season 5 they can get Joe and David. I'd love for them to do a commentary together. THAT would be fantastic.

Damn and blast about the commentaries - I really love it when the actors chip in because otherwise it can get a bit overly technical and dry for my tastes - I pretty much gave up on the season 3 ones. But it's good at least to get it confirmed that the bloopers are in.

I'm excited to see Carl Binder doing a commentary, he wasn't scheduled originally, and I really enjoyed his commentary on Phantoms. Agree that it sucks that DH & JF aren't doing commentaries, I really enjoyed their take on things :-( Also agree that deleted scenes and bloopers are v.v. good :-)

They did Seige III together in S2 with Martin Wood and Gero and they did another one where Joe came in after they'd started, but for the life of me, I can't think which one - probably an S2 as well. I was hoping for more of the same for S4.

Speculation...
Schedule conflict or contractual conflict or content conflict?

hmmm.....

Well, that sucks. At least the blooper reel, (some) deleted scenes, and the commentary with Jason and Chris on Midway is still a go. That's the only one I'll bother to listen to. Hopefully we'll get to see some behind-the-scenes Torri on the Mission Directive for TMC. *sighs*

And gee, one would think it would have made more sense for the "The Doctor is In" feature on Paul McGillion to have been on the same disc as The Kindred...

OK, what? Amanda is doing *four* commentaries, Jason is doing one...and nothing from anyone else? Am I the only one who finds that just....strange?

And the thing is....I thought I'd seen something somewhere where DH posted something about going in to record at least one commentary.

No kidding. I really don't need to hear Amanda four times. I don't like her commentaries, sorry. When she's there the director feels he has to talk about her half the time. Blech. I think Amanda is very nice about making herself available, but still...

What else do we need to say? Scheduling conflicts, illness (DH was really sick for a handful of the S1 & S2 ones, so he was told to stay away by his cast mates. :-p), cost factors and ignoring the fans wishes..... (which JM & PM seem to do on a regular basis... :-p)

Midway they have to have Jason & Chris do, since yeah, the ep was all about them, but why couldn't they have had the rest of the main cast do a viewing or two? (I'm sure Baz would probably love to help his dad out, since he's going for that whole world domination thing anyway.... *g*)

But, yeah, more of the "We are sticking by our guns that it was a really good idea to kill off Weir and bring over Carter!" with having her do 4 of the commentaries. Oh joy.

I'm buying the DVDs to have a good version of the episodes but I love commentaries... done by the actors :(. David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan doing commentaries in season 1 : best ever.

I am disappointed, especially since DH himself said he was recording commentaries :s.

I'm pretty sure it was "Duet" that JF wanders in, mostly to go "ewww~" at the Beckett/McKay kiss! ^_^

(I thought they did "Lost Boys" together, too, but that might've been only DH, I just know one of them was there because Martin Gero commented in the field scene that McKay & Sheppard had nice chemistry, and one of the actors said something like, "yeah, that's hatred!" XP)

DAMN! I was really looking forward to hearing David, Jewel and Rachel talking. David is always fun and interesting and I enjoyed that commentary Rachel did way back in season one.

I really wish they'd not released the info until they were sure because now I'm going to feel cheated :-(

And yeah, Amanda is to me, forever SG-1, so while it's nice having her there, she still isn't a SGA actor. Still, I'm excited about hearing Jason. That could be fun.

Damn *tears out hair*. Not that the technical background info isn't interesting, but I like a good balance of technical stuff and anecdotes on the commentaries. Well, at least it looks like the bloopers made it in.

:( I enjoy listening to actors on the commentary, so that really sucks. I know that they have family, and lives, but it's a shame that they don't have time.

The deleted scenes could be good though, and I'm excited about the bloopers too! :)

Good news is that the blooper reel made it - there was a moment of doubt not too long ago - and the deleted scenes sound like fun.

Pity about the commentaries, not that I tend to listen to them much myself, though I would if DH did one - hmm, actually, I haven't watched the one (or is there more than one?) that he has done... Which episode was it, does anyone remember off hand?

I know that (according to Joe Mallozzi) no one gets paid for doing a commentary and therefore they are done out of the kindness of people's hearts (so's to speak) - but I suspect it has more to do with scheduling than money. Our actors appear to love the fans enough to do the commentaries ... if they have the time. And we all know that they are busy people (DH, for example, just how many scripts is he writing at the moment? I've lost count, but it's at least two films and Starcrossed - and then there's baby Baz - learning lines and saving the galaxy - oh, and an upcoming wedding to organise!!).

Maybe we'll get other actors next season. I hope so. But at least we have Amanda (okay, I know, more SG1 than SGA) and one with Jason (and Chris Judge) - it's better than none at all!

I'm hoping that Joe Mallozzi is his normal charming, charismatic, sarcastic, super-villian self on the ones he's done! I know not everyone likes his humour (or him), but I love his dry comments on his blog.

They did "Conversion" together too with Gero. Martin Wood and Martin Gero are the most interesting non-actors to listen to, even if Gero tends to take over the commentaries.

From: [identity profile] neevebrody.livejournal.com
Ooh, thanks! I knew there was another entire commentary they did together. I agree about the Martins. I love hearing Wood explain how he does certain things and you're right, Gero can get a little full of himself sometimes and end up hogging the action.

I suspect it's a matter of time more than anything. You'd like to think it's just one hour but I bet it takes HOURS to set up and do one, and the actors want to go home...

Date: 2008-04-11 02:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] toomanysides.livejournal.com
I think that has a lot to do with it but I feel that contracts get in the way more often. The dispute over the when, how long it will take, where, how much, among other things. I have heard from around that sometimes commentaries just don't go to the final product... they are recorded but it wasn't good enough or something. *shrugs* We can only speculate.

I say any commentary is better than none. Well sometimes I do feel like I don't want to know how things are "supposed" to be interpreted. I like how things work in my little head better sometimes. :)

True, true. The agents/managers probably go "you're going to give them your time for FREE?" is probably one thing, and Joe flies home every weekend to be with his family in the States, and David has the new baby and several projects but come on, David could probably do a commentary in his own kitchen with a tape recorder watching the episode on DVd ;) Darn, wonder if there's anyway to bribe 'em for next season...
