Multichannel reports that season 5 is the last season for Stargate Atlantis.

‘Stargate Atlantis’ Ends Sci Fi First Run After Season 5

2-Hour TV-Movie Greenlit For 2009 As Stargate Franchise Lives On In Features

By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 8/20/2008 5:59:00 PM

Space drama Stargate Atlantis will conclude its run on Sci Fi Channel after the current, fifth season ends next January -- but the network has greenlit a two-hour Atlantis movie to run after that and says the show will live on as a network franchise.

After airing on Sci Fi sometime next year, the untitled Atlantis movie will be sold as a home-video title by producer MGM, Sci Fi told Multichannel News on Wednesday.

MGM this year released two financially successful straight-to-DVD movies made after progenitor series Stargate SG-1 ended a 10-year run of first-run cable episodes on Sci Fi. MGM and the show producers are scheduled to make more in DVDs in future. A movie franchise is also envisioned for Stargate Atlantis.

Meanwhile, we get a two-hour movie instead of 20 hours. I can't say I'm all that thrilled that Mallozzi and partner will pen the movie.

Sigh. This sucks. Feel free to rant in the comments section.

Don't know, January might have been nicer. we'd be happy thinking what the new season would bring, but then again, guess it's best to get the pain over with, and many people will probaby yank the plug on SciFi when it's over. Don't think I can as it would wipe out Discovery channel too. Darn.

Might have worked better. But all I have is O'Douls. So I'm binging on sugary foods. And ranting about this and Moonlight. I'm even ranting about someone trying to use SGA's cancelation as a point to start mailing SF about Moonlight again.

SciFi is living on reruns of Trek and such. They've lost their SciFi Friday and their saturday movies are so bad even I don't watch them anymore unless an actor I like is in them, which is few and far between now...

Hard to tell if it's karma, but the meddling and killing of characters and dropping of plotlines is probably one reason. $$$ is the real reason, but the show could ahve been better, yet I still love the characters.

It's a pretty brutal industry. Fortunately the actors are all aware of its fickleness and hopefully have saved and invested accordingly.

They axed I-Man because they were having a bitchfest with USA Network/NBC at the time. They're just a sucky channel. Why ax a great show? So they can play those fucking stupid movies that no one watches? UGH. I hate them so, so very much. It would be nice if the show could find another channel to appear on. NBC or USA or something, y'know?

Ya know, I don't have cable, or satellite. It was thanks to a good friend that I discovered this show, and I did so when she found cute McShep videos on YouTube and she'd link me to them occasionally, and I'd be like "whoa, who are these cute guys? Okay, so that one guy... you said he's McKay, right? Who's the other guy he just kissed? And who're the pale skinny guys with the long stringy hair?"

It got to the point where I was reading McShep fictions and browsing videos on my own time (over a dialup connection, people! If that ain't dedication, I don't know what is!) and Melissa said I was probably the only fan of the show that had never seen a single episode. My Christmas present was the season 1 box set, ordered off Amazon for me.

After a while she got this bright idea of mailing me her external hard drive with a bunch of episodes she downloaded. Yep, her little hard drive--whom we named Chuck, after none other than SGA's own Chucknician--made several trips back and forth from Texas (her) to Kentucky (me), ferrying wonderful sci-fi. It's only recently that she's started sending me SG-1 eps as well, although those are gonna take a lot more time to go through. Oh, and she gave me a couple of seasons of Farscape as well, though I've only watched a few eps since I'm kinda hung up on Jack O'Neill's thinly-disguised flirting with Daniel Jackson.

And now... *sniffle* Skiffy, you bastard!!!

*sigh* I'm not feeling anything because it's not something I can control :( An Aussie soap can go for 20 years but not SGA. (I don't watch the soap)
